Should the names/address of pistol license holders ever be published?

SOURCEI don't know how many people know about this, but on Christmas Eve the Rockland Journal News posted an article and an online interactive map that lists the names/addresses(mine included) of every pistol license holder in Rockland, Westchester and Putnam counties.Should this information be public record and thus able to be printed in a newspaper?My name/address is on that list, even though I'm a cop and that information is supposed to be controlled. Anybody with an internet connection can now see my name and address, if they cared to look for it. How is this a smart thing to do? This enables any burglar to see which house has a pistol permit and either target those houses to sell the guns on the black market, or to target houses that don't have pistol licenses. I think this is outrageously irresponsible.
