So, Obama just spoke about the Treyvon tragedy...

And I give the President respect and kudos for speaking, what seems to be from his heart. He took this moment to salvage a hurt community on they perceived as "just another" white on black crime, which did happen a lot in the past. While acknowledging the serious problem in the African American community with crime and poverty.

If I might add, the only thing that he should have done is stop this persecution of Zimmerman from DOJ, and Eric Holder. Which is unheard of from an administration.

I watched the video. I must say that, despite the obvious political implications that comes with any moment a politician speaks about a truly emotional incident, Obama seemed very sincere and heartfelt.

Whatever you may think of the case of Treyvon (I avoid trials such as this like the plague so I don't have much of an opinion) it's hard to watch this video and not think the president was being insincere.

I don't think stand you ground laws were used by the defence in this particular case. Though those laws probably do need looking at regardless.

Really Obama? I mean, really? 35 years ago you would have been getting suspended from school, caught with stolen jewelry, drinking lean, getting thrown out of your mother's house for acting wild, and referring to yourself as "no_limit_****a" online?

Treyvon thought he was attacking an unarmed, fat, homosexual "cracker"

Treyvon Martin racially profiled George Zimmerman.

Treyvon thought he could get away with committing a hate crime.

That was the last mistake Treyon "the racist" Martin , ever made.

If Obama thinks he's going to scare people into being afraid to defend themselves from a thug, he's got a hard lesson coming.

That might work on people in some states, but it won't work on the people here in Florida. If Treyvon would have attacked Zimmerman on the street I live on , he probably would have been shot by someone else  before Zimmerman got his gun  out.

We don't put up with thugs here. That's why there was no looting after hurricane Ivan. Everyone knows what happens to looters in this city, that's why we don't have looting..

Thats the thing... the defense never brought it up but the jury did in fact take that law into heavy consideration... If you watch the interview with juror b37 you'd be enlightened...

Based on the evidence the jury didn't believe it was murder, there's nothing to justify.  I'm just pointing out some clearly idiotic things the President said.  The only thing they had in common is Obama is 50% black.  If that was what Obama was like 35 years ago he would have never been president today.

What I find even crazier is the idea we need to have some national dialog over this incident considering something like 90% of all the black males murdered in this country were murdered by other black males. In addition, the majority of murders in this country are black on black, which is amazing considering they are a minority of the population.  If there's anything we need to talk about, it's that.

in the same train of thought  i have to say that it could not have been me.

because if i was confronted by some dude i would have had a big smile on my face and said, "oh hi! hows it going? what can i do for you?

i always lead off that way because it puts people at their ease and if they are assholes or they want to do me harm i can always change my tactics to suit the situation.

You're the one who doesn't look at people as individuals and puts an extraordinary amount of effort and energy into trying to make a case against black people, often without evidence, so that's rather hypocritical.

This again? Do you see such evidence here? Do you not see I am in agreement with the President? Yeah, I am so racist I am praising Obama, who I think is a lousy President. Yeah, totally... So when I cite FBI statistics, I am racist for implying... what exactly? You're the one that's interpreting it that way because you don't want to talk about the uncomfortable truth, which is that there is a rampant problem in the black community with crime, which the President himself cited, which creates a perception that all blacks are like that, which is bogus. It doesn't matter though, because Statistically, you would be more likely to get robbed, shot, burglarized etc by an African American, hence most "white" people's reaction. But the reality is, when someone brings this up (and when I did, I specifically said it is a problem with culture, not race) you crucify them, instead engage in the conversation.

Because it is. It is the definition of tragedy. Treyvon did not have to die, if Zimmerman just stayed in the car. The same way that he did not have to die if he hadn't started beating Zimmerman. It was avoidable and it is a tragedy that Zimmerman had to use deadly force, and Treyvon's parents are mourning the loss of their son. Using self defense is not a tragedy, the outcome was.

I wasn't talking about this particular thread. I'm talking about your comments in other threads, which is probably what Zaibach was basing his assumptions on. It's wrong that he didn't actually bother to listen to what you were saying in this thread, but still, I think you might want to reread many of your posts and see how they come across.

Also, I myself said that there are certain problems in the "black community" (and many black people would agree), but you go farther than that and just seem obsessed with being negative about black people. It's one thing to acknowledge issues, it's another to be zealous about it. I remember when people were suggesting that certain problems in the community had to do with economics (culture and economics do have alot to do with eachother), you were so quick to shoot that explanation down. You always say you're talking about culture, but you don't ever bother to acknowledge that not all blacks share the same culture, just as all whites don't share the same culture.

Not to mention that you don't bother to back up many of your claims, or use questionable sources.

Lastly, it also doesn't make sense to talk about other people looking at issues through a lense of race when you have been known to throw around racial generalizations. Generalizations cannot co-exist with looking at issues through a non-racial lense.

If you changed the way you approach this issue, I think you'd find that you'd get accused of racism alot less.

If you want to have a conversation, PM me. I am not going to derail this thread.

[QUOTE="DevilMightCry"] This again? Do you see such evidence here? Do you not see I am in agreement with the President? Yeah, I am so racist I am praising Obama, who I think is a lousy President. Yeah, totally... So when I cite FBI statistics, I am racist for implying... what exactly? You're the only, that's interpreting it that way because you don't want to talk about the uncomfortable truth, which is that there is a rampant problem in the black community, which the President himself cited, with violence which creates a perception that all blacks are like that, which is bogus. But the reality is, when someone brings this up (and when I did, I specifically said it is a problem with culture, not race) you crucify them, instead engage in the conversation. DevilMightCry

No need. I'll just drop the issue.

If I might add, the only thing that he should have done is stop this persecution of Zimmerman from DOJ, and Eric Holder. Which is unheard of from an administration. DevilMightCry
nothing will come of holder's actions. imo it's just a move to try to appease people.. a little "yeah, yeah, we'll look into it" kinda thing..

"Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago."

Really Obama? I mean, really? 35 years ago you would have been getting suspended from school, caught with stolen jewelry, drinking lean, getting thrown out of your mother's house for acting wild, and referring to yourself as "no_limit_****a" online?

Puh-lease.

LMAO, "just another white on black" crime. OK, Mr. Presdent, whatever you say. It's not like black on white or BLACK ON BLACK *cough*Chicago*cough* crimes never happen.
