I'm in the San Fernando valley and here it felt like one of those long lazy undulating wave types of earthquakes that doesn't really build. Was it a shaker where you were because here it was just a long slow roller with little to no effect on any household items?
I'm picking up my room right now but no damages that I know of. It was looooong and the house was swaying. Never felt one that made me bail out of the house before.I'm in the San Fernando valley and here it felt like one of those long lazy undulating wave types of earthquakes that doesn't really build. Well yeah our house are made to sway a lot which is why earthquake damage is a lot lower here than in undeveloped or unprepared areas. I'm only up a story so I got a little extra shaking but getting caught in a tall building during a slow roller is a little unsettling as the building surfs the waves of energy. Everytime they start though I always have this Northridge quake flashback and wait for it to suddenly violently build so I have to admit that I quickly located my wallet and cat and prepared to bolt...but then it subsided.

Glad you/your familyare alright
...but I gotta ask, how the heck are you rocking a rebel flag (on your avatar)in SoCo? I always thought you were somewhere in the South.
It was a 7 pointer. Those aren't our every month earthquakes. They've been predicting these things for a few years now. PS: When are ya'll going to complete that Final Fantasy style water pump? You know the one which is supposed to infuse water into the San Andreas to ease the stress?[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]Surprise, earthquake in California. Who didn't see this coming?Pirate700

Although the earthquake was much large than normal, apparently it was centered down 360 miles south of the California border off of the coast of Baja California. No wonder it didn't feel like anything other than something in the 4s. I haven't felt any aftershocks myself but then I about as North as one can be and still be in Los Angeles county.
I'm near the border here in SD. I felt it here in Long Beach. There were just some slow, but powerful tremors here. My whole house was swaying.
I'm in long beach too, didn't feel anything. I was on the phone with mom though and she was freaking out becauase her lamp was swaying and she didn't know why. She lives in Carson though so maybe it was stronger the more west you go.
Just felt my 3rd here.Make that 4th.u probably live neer the epicenter then... i felt it really slow and long...[QUOTE="Pirate700"]

I'm on the easternmost edge of LA county and here it was just a swaying feeling. My mom and dad who were walking didn't feel it, but everyone who was sitting down definitely felt it.Although the earthquake was much large than normal, apparently it was centered down 360 miles south of the California border off of the coast of Baja California. From your reaction I would've guessed that as I'm quite a bit more North than you. Glad things weren't too bad there though as that's quite an unusually large quake. I haven't heard anything about the surrounding Baja California area though.
