One of the most eloquent and excellent dabators I've ever seen.
LINK
From last year.
There are also links to those who were dabating for the church, and you can also seach youtue for 'intelligence squared' if you can't find them.

Thoughts?

Edit:
The debate in its entirety:
part 1
part 2
part 3
part 4
part 5 (Q&A from the audience, also very good)

He is completely right. Why would anyone say condoms spread aids? I don't get religion... Stephen Fry puts words to what I couldn't.

They all deserve viewing, if at least to see all the arguments being proposed.

I think if the Pope didn't have such pull in certain areas, that it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

He made some valid points and was respectful. I'm Catholic but I don't condone the used of condoms.

It's a debate, but I can't find the video for the Catholicism defense.

I never said I expected perfection. But when someone is molested by priest, I expect that priest to be brought to justice, not for the Pope to cover it up because it could hurt the name of the church.

That's not a valid excuse. The people that run the catholic church all take a ridiculous number of vows and oaths that say that they will uphold the original principles that the church was supposedly founded on. That makes them accountable to the people of the church and those that criticize catholicism. Its not about being perfect but when you have a large number of priest engaging in child molestation, a pope whose word can influence the lives of hundreds of millions, and a hierarchal system destined to keep power in the hands of a few you have a small margin of error before people start to openly criticize what your true intentions are. You have to do your best to see that you contribute to the world you are meant to serve. And with the centuries of corruption/deceit/violence that has been a part of the catholic church it makes itself a target for criticism, because it is not doing exactly what it is telling people it supposed to do.

But their religion tells them not to commit adultery, no? And a priest, nun or whatever should follow their religion to a milimeter, no? Isn't that why they are what they are? And sure, Clayron is exaggerating, but people are outraged by the fact that the pope covers up something as sickening as child abuse. How can you defend that?

"Our criminal justice system broken because procedures are complex, or because they are designed to ensure that an innocent person is not wrongly convicted? Any mature criminal justice system -- including the canonical system -- has two duties: to punish the guilty and, of no less importance, to protect the innocent from mistaken prosecution. Sometimes, in a rush to judgment, people forget about the latter".it takes time to investigate these matters...and necessary action and such is now being taken...

Yes they are SUPPOSED to..but above all they are fallible and mortal in every way we are...i'm not defending it...i'm just saying people need to hop off the "priest molestation" bandwagon..

It was the farthest thing from a wise decision and because of that, the church leaders deserve every bit of disgust and critism aimed at them. Instead of dealing with hit, he swept it under the carpet.
