2001 - This movie wasn't good at all.
The first half is good with all the monkeys lol. But then they add HAL which occupies a large part of the movie but really doesn't add ANYTHING. Then the last part you see a bunch of colours for 20 minutes and then they're in a room for no reason. So in conclusion; first half=good and beautiful but second part pointless.
Dr. Strangelove - Is this suppose to be a comedy? wtf???

Clockwork Orange - Haven't actually seen this one but I heard some people say it sucks.

He is overrated but The Shining was awesome. Spartacus was also really good.

Most overrated director is Quentin Tarantino.

Clockwork Orange is decent. I werent a big fan of 2001 the first time I saw it as I hadnt a clue what was going on half the time. After watching it a couple of times I understood it a bit more and now think its a good film.

I really didn't like Full Metal Jacket because it seemed like it should have ended around the halfway mark, but that's the only movie of his I've seen that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Overall, I like his work.

Full Metal Jacket was a phenomenal film, in my opinion, especially given the year it was made.

2001 is overrated and so is The Shining. Haven't seen any of his other films other than Paths of Glory, which is excellent

You can play this game and insert any well-known, decorated director. How long before we see Sidney Lumet, Darren Aronofsky, Alfonso Cuaron and Almodovar?

Really? I loved the first part. As you said, it was phenomenal. But I didn't see anything special after they went to war. Did I miss something?

2001 is a horrendously boring film, but Kubrick is a FANTASTIC director still.

A Clockwork Orange is an amazing film, The Shining is classic, and Full Metal Jacket was purty good.

I'll give you that 2001: A Space Odyssey is probably the single worst move to ever be made. However, the rest of his works, especially Dr. Strangelove, which was glorious, make him, overall, a p. good director.

2001 was an awesome atmospheric experience, but yeah, the plot made no sense whatsoever. Why is HAL doing this stuff? Isn't explained at all until 2010 came out. Made perfect sense then, 16 years later.

As far as Kubrick, I liked Full Metal Jacket and Dr. Stangelove, but most of his stuff left me flat. Like The Shining. That did not work for me at all.

As far as the plot of 2001 goes, you should ask Arthur C. Clarke, not Stanley Kubrick.

HAL is mankind's weakness, he knows that they will deactivate him and then he becomes desperate to survive, showing the most basic of animal instincts.

True, but calling it an "average" film do enough to address the fact that it is ABSURDLY OVERRATED. Drastic times, drastic measures.

The film is about evolution. At the start the monkeys find the monolith and learn to use tools. In the future humans use their tools to do everything for them so that they are no longer evolving, but instead their tools are evolving. The next step of evolution would be to adapt to not need tools, to be able to live in space naturally. HAL knows that he will become obsolete and trys to kill the crew before they replace him.

The scene at the end in the room represents the death and birth of new live. The man ages and dies and from him comes the star child.

Yes and how did that add anything?

Didn't you notice that throughout the film they were drinking trough straws and reading instructions on how to use toilets? In space men are as helpless as babies, machines are our parents. When you gropw up you learn to live without your parents.

The starchild can breath and move through space without any aid, how is that a step back?

Besides if you get rid of HAL, what have you got? A bunch of monkeys and a artifact on the moon.
