How is everyone **** about Star Wars being taken out of the hands of Sith Lord Lucas? I trust Disney to hire competent directors and staff to helm Star Wars (Joss Whedon) than Lucas.
Human-after-all
If Whedon directs a SW movie it will be the greatest thing to ever happen in the movie industry.
no doubt the movies will be rated G and feature lego characters voiced by crap comedic actors like jonah hill and seth rogen
Why is George Lucas getting so much hate in here? You'd think if anyone could make a good Star Wars film it'd be the guy who made it.Capitan_KidHe proved what happens when he has complete control over Star Wars. Hell, he didn't even write the screenplay or direct episode V and that was the best of the series.
Really? I just don't understand the appeal. Tons of awful, boring dialogue, boring extended CGI sequences, and the ridiculously long and stupid Anakin/Obi Wan fight just turned me off. Not to mention the comically bad "NOOOOOOO!" at the end. jim_shorts
Maybe I'm just a little older, I dunno, but I never considered Star Wars dialog to be anything but bad. The only thing that saved it historically from being panned was its delivery. I almost expect it to be bad... that's how I enjoy it.
As for the final fight... I loved it. That along with Yoda's fight with Darth Sidious, and the opening star battle were among the best sequences I've seen in an action movie.
I had complaints -- I can easily tell that Qui-Gon's ghost was supposed to appear in several places, and for some reason didn't, which made the "revelation" from Yoda at the end feel like a rushed attempt to hide a gaping plot hole. I think Lucas should have insisted on Mr. Neeson's presence, or waited on him to heal, or had a like-sounding substitute. Anything but the tacked on revelation. I was also unhappy that the Wookie battle didn't last much longer. I also think Anakin's characterization was difficult to believe, as usual, but I felt Obi-Wan's characterization added just enough to save it.
Overall I thought it was a great addition to the movies, and I would love it if the other two had been similarly conceived.
If Disney owns Lucasfilm, does this mean Leia will join the pantheon of Disney princesses?LaihendiThinking more about it makes the whole thing worse and worse

This won't happen with at least Episode 7 since it is slated for 2015 the same year as Avengers 2 unless they rotate directors for 8 and 9.

Fair points. Star Wars dialogue never was great, but I felt that III took it to a new level, like that balcony scene between Anakin and Padme. I felt that Episode III was better than II if that's any consolation. I could write a book about how much I hate that movie. This is like when Disney bought Marvel all over again...I'll reserve my judgement until we see a trailer press info, and a cast list on the next movie.
Not the best wording choice of all time.I wonder what the plot will be. Leia and Luke's kids or what?

They might do the Thrawn trilogy and continue with Han, Luke, and Leia or possibly further in the future. I"m interested in seeing what they do.I wonder what the plot will be. Leia and Luke's kids or what?

Woohoo, i guess. I'm pretty bummed out of Star Wars at this point, so... *Shrug* I don't know.
I'm hoping it's about Quai-Gon (I don't know how you spell it) leading up to Episode 1 or would like to see more of Darth Maul.
I hope it doesn't follow the adventures of Luke Skywalker. No one can replace Mark Hammill (not sure how you spell his last name either). Or a spin-off about that one character that has that look of Han Solo from Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire or that one guy who is in Jedi Knight.
YES!
Star Wars is a massive universe with tons of lore and with George Lucas out of the picture, the franchise can finally get the theatrical treatment it deserves. I'm willing to gamble on new talent making a fantastic new trilogy than a cash-in being worst than Ep I-III.
I just hope they completely forget about I-VI and start fresh.
Oh wait. This is still technically Episode 7? I guess we we probably won't see Quai-Gon or Darth Maul. Probably be based on some books.I'm hoping it's about Quai-Gon (I don't know how you spell it) leading up to Episode 1 or would like to see more of Darth Maul.

To be honest, everybody is going to see it. It's probably going to be the highest grossing movie of all time. Star Wars is the most recognizable movie name of all time. I enjoy the series, but don't worship the original trilogy the way some do. I like episode 1 the most. Shoot me.
What I really care about is that if they do a new Indy series, they better not fvck him up. Indiana Jones is the third best TRILOGY right behind LOTR and Nolan's Bat trilogy. If they mess up Indy, I will freak.
Anybody like IJ more than SW?
Lucas being gone is reassuring, but them saying they're going to be releasing new Star Wars movies every 2 to 3 years like clockwork is pretty worrisome.
I wonder if Disney will be able to release the original, unaltered Star Wars trilogy on blu-ray. I'd pretty much love Disney if they could/do.
As long as Lucas' role is limited to, "creative Consultant", and they have no plans to listen to a damn word he has to say, I'm okay with this news. As one of the many SW fans that has been wishing someone tear the 'Verse' from his hands, I am surprised this hasn't happened sooner.

I would rather them leave the story at Jedi's end. They can take us anywhere, any time. I'd even be up for a few full CG films, look at what Bioware did just for their ToR trailers. Give me 2 hours of that, I'd buy it.
-
As for their plan to release a new movie every 2-3 years, I think that might push it. Unless they intend to keep it sequel free and let someone new make each installment. I just don't want Star Wars X - XX. The Verse is ripe with potential.

The whole Lucas empire, including LucasArts, Lucasfilm LTD, ILM and Skywalker Sound.
And Indiana Jones:P

Hmmm...they ruined Indy with aliens, so how will they ruin Star Wars?
a film about the Yuzhan Vong
Oh god no. Please no. Keep all that post RotJ crap out of Star Wars.Lucas being gone is reassuring, but them saying they're going to be releasing new Star Wars movies every 2 to 3 years like clockwork is pretty worrisome.

You misunderstood. It's a new trilogy, Episodes VII to IX. Both of the previous trilogies took 6 years and Lord of Rings, took 4. So 2-3 years per iteration is plenty of time to make a good movie.
The thrawn trilogy ? dkdk999
The Thrawn Trilogy was a book triliogy released in the 90's (before Episode I was being conceived) titled Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command, all authored by Timothy Zahn. I've only read part of the first book but it is fantastic.

this is the question though. How many strings were attached in the sale. Did he only agree to sell if he has final say? Did he make them promise no rated R or adult themed star wars movies? Do all the characters have to have stupid names like Nute Gunray and Dexter Jexter?? These are the question that could kill the new movies...

I'll stipulate to that. I don't see Disney agreeing to anything like that. Why would they? I think they're keeping him around so people will think he still has a say. How can they not have seen Lucas driving the franchise at light speed into the side of a mountain. I can't see anyone at Disney thinking that continuing with his vision, from I, II, III through VII, VIII, IX. I just hope they make the full feature films rated M and above and they can have the Clone Wars animated type films for the kids.
