I thought God loved us all. Why would he condemn 999 people to hell (which happens to be the symbol that will appear on those chosen for heaven before the Rapture) if he loved us all? Why does somebody, so powerful and great, require so much undivided attention. It's not just being a good person. That's not good enough.
I've heard, in my own church nonetheless, like 5 different ways to get into heaven. Some say you need to follow all 10 commandments plus a whole lot of crap, others say you just have to accept Jesus into your heart as your savior.
The contradictions between the teachings is so high it was impossible for me to believe. So I'm just not going to worry. I'm going to live my life to be a good person and to be happy, never take advantage of anybody, never harm anybody, and hopefully contribute to society in a positive way. If a life like that isn't worthy of going to Heaven, then let me burn in Hell.
Jesus may have died for our sins, but I also know of thousands of settlers in the 1700s who died so I can live in this nation and have what I have today. I know of thousands of people over the years who have worked their entire lives for the betterment of my own life, all of them them not even knowing who I am as they existed years before I did, many of which suffered and died much as Jesus did. I know of the great sacrifices people have made throughout the history of the human race to better the lives of millions.
I owe as much thanks and acceptance to these fellow humans as I do to Jesus. Haven't they all given the same to achieve the same goals? What makes just one of them special? Surely a true god would understand that.
I don't put my faith in God, I put it in humanity. For as bad as things may seem, there is and always has been good in this world. I can only hope that I can contribute to this and help us grow to be better people.
