@cain006: I actually read it this summer and it was awesome. I love how all of the characters are drawn really serious (most of the time anyway), but then there's Saitama, haha. I'll have to buy it as soon as it's released in volumes in English.
Oh, one punch man? Yeah that's probably my favorite comedy manga. The art is really great to look at and I love how Saitama doesn't fit in at all. Just one more thing that's funny about it.
Oh and if you like gross violent stuff then Ichi The Killer would be right up your alley. I read the whole thing and kind of wish I didn't, it kind of skeeves me out when I think about some of the pages even now. It's very funny and the art is pretty good and there's people being cut in half and shit. I mean Berserk is tame compared to it.

I absolutely love gross violent stuff, so I'll be sure to check that one out. I'm on the search for something new to read anyway, so why not? Berserk is something I'll have to find some time for as well, though, haha.
Watched a couple episodes of Arpeggio of Blue Steel but the goth loli moe is just too much. I think Im out~
Is there anything like Death Note/Berserk/Claymore out there from the last 3 or 4 years? I stopped watching anime about 3 or 4 years ago because i couldnt find anything dark.

I'm only recommending manga here, I don't know if there's an anime version of them. First of all I'm going to recommend Homunculus. It has kind of a slow start but it's very interesting. It's about trepanation - drilling a hole in your skull in order to open up a "sixth sense." There isn't much of a story - it's mostly character driven and the two main characters change significantly over the course of the series. It's one of my favorite series of all time.
Gantz is a decent action manga with a unique premise. The story drags it down in the second half but it's still good.
Vagabond isn't recent but it's still going and is a story about a ronin who wants to be invincible. Amazing art and the fights hold nothing back. It's written by Takehiko Inoue if you liked Slam Dunk or have read REAL.

Vagabond is awesome, Gantz is great. They made an anime, but I heard the manga ending was better.
Anyone know any good short anime series that are more philosophical and reflects on the meaning of life or on human nature? I'm almost done with Welcome to the NHK (amazing show) and starting Monster. As much as I love action anime like fullmetal alchemist and attack on titan, I'm really digging the more realistic anime that explore psychological and philosophical stuff.

You might like Wandering Son. I read the manga but it has an anime now. It's about kids 6th graders that are transgendered.

Ha I'm pretty sure I'm like 20 chapters from the end or something, just lost interest in it. I tend to do that when I catch up to manga that are still out. Only exception is Hajime no Ippo.
@Parado_xx: Did you ever end up reading Ichi the Killer? I want to know how violent it seems to someone who regularly reads stuff like that because the most violent things I've read were that and Berserk.
@cain006: I've only been watching the Berserk movies once they come out. Have you seen those? I'm wondering if I should read the mangas as well, or if they're incredibly drawn out and never end. Thoughts?
I definitely recommend reading the manga, the backstory arc for Guts is one of my favorite stories in any manga I've read. It goes downhill from there and I actually lost interest around volume 20 or something. But the arc that starts at volume 4 or something is amazing and is definitely worth reading.
And I haven't seen the movies, I saw part of one and thought it looked good but I don't like watching stuff I've already read so I didn't pay attention to them.

Yup, finished it a couple of weeks ago. I ended up reading it at school, actually, which turned out not to be such a good idea considering the content, hahaha. Anyway, all in all, I would definitely say it's one of the more brutal manga I've read, if not actually the most violent one. That's mostly considering that the story contains a lot of things like rape and torture. If I were to think about the amount of intestines being splattered and spilled, Dorohedoro would probably still be at top, but Ichi the Killer it so f*cked up it makes up for it by miles, hahaha. So yeah, it was a really interesting manga. If I had the chance, I probably would have finished it in one sitting!
I'll probably read Berserk after I've finished Fullmetal Alchemist; always thought it looked really interesting and violent, hahaa. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to read any manga the last week, since I've been busy with a school project, but I'll most likely finish FMA pretty fast if I have the time. After finishing Ichi the Killer I also looked up some other work by Yamamoto and found a manga called Homunculus, or something like that. It sounded quite interesting, so I'll probably check that one out pretty fast as well.

Sometimes I think Manga allows you to enjoy the moment more than the Anime... But If they wanted to, Vagabond could've been a anime by now.. They've been working on that since like 2000 ?

Man, if they ever make an anime out of Vagabond it better be amazing and gorgeous looking. It would be horrible if the anime turned out like the adaption of Blade of the Immortal. Anyway, all in all, I guess it is kind of weird there's no anime version yet. It's very well known, isn't it? Or perhaps Inoue is more known for Slam Dunk and/or Real? I think I actually read somewhere that basketball became considerably more popular in Japan because of one of those. I can't remember if it were a trustful source, though.

Slam Dunk, and yes he pretty much single-handedly made basketball more popular in Japan. It has sold over 100 million copies.

I hope it does become an anime one day, but at this rate probably not. It's been over 10 years now.

Slam Dunk does have an anime. Or are you talking about Vagabond? I don't see the need for it honestly, I really doubt it could do better.

Because the art is amazing and I can't see an anime being better than it. Really the only anime that I see as better than the manga is stuff like Kids on the Slope or BECK where music is important.

I understand and I respect your perspective. Perhaps the developer thinks the same since it has not been an anime for it yet. But I crave for an anime similar to it. I like Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, When They Cry, Baki, and deep plots that has intense action but great characters and connections. Black Lagoon was one of my all time favorites, but unfortunately they stopped making seasons out of nowhere even though the anime had gotten great sales and reviews.
I don't know if this has been posted yet, but the author of Attack on Titan has changed the ending of his series due to popularity.

Oh, wow. I'm kinda glad, but hesitantly. On the one hand, I certainly don't want an ending like in The Mist, but on the other hand, changing the ending because of popularity is a bad move.

I guess Mushishi might be a good fit, although I'm not that sure. Anyway, it's about this guy, Ginko, (a mushishi) traveling around Japan fixing problems caused by mushi (supernatural creatures that most people can't see). I'm not really all that good explaining why I thought of it, but if you have the time, you could check it out if you want to.
Yes this thread lives!
Princess Jellyfish is good stuff
The name makes me very very skeptical...
Been watching Kill la Kill... and the story is pretty stupid, yet I continue to watch. I gotta catch up on Space Dandy though.

I was just informed it was pretty good. Gotta check it out.

Oh it is, it's on Toonami too.
Almost every week the latest episode of Kill La Kill gets even better and better.
In a way, some of the previous episodes haven't been all that great or anything but recently looks like things might just get interesting.
Wow, Kill La Kill sure seems like it's grown quite popular.
I remember seeing previews of it before its release and being super excited. The only thing is... I haven't gotten past episode 5. I've had it on hold for a while now since. Just having trouble finding the motivation to continue watching it.
Better hope next week's episode of Hunter X Hunter 2011 will be good as this week's, that episode was pretty good and less narration

Some reason I can't get into Kill la Kill, seems like majority of the fights are just skimpy dressed women fighting each other and the story seems stupid bad.
Think I'm just spoiled after watching Attack on Titan.

AoT is another thing I've yet to finish. lol

I've gone through AoT twice now >.>
Guessing it's ok to talk about the Final episode of Kill La Kill? Seriously that episode was awesome and sad shame it has ended
After a three years period of absolutely no anime whatsoever, I find myself with a great appetite for it. I recently finished TTGL and I'm half way through Samurai Champloo. TTGL was a fun light watch but I'm really in the mood for more Samurai anime depicting old traditional Japan. Do you guys have any recommendations for good Samurai animes? Ones with great art style, awesome fighting scenes, original story and very authentic feeling to them.
