According to The Encyclopedia of Wars, the above 123 wars were religious in nature. Seems pretty extensive, right? Not really, since this list covers less than seven percent of the thousands of wars documented in the book. All of the others were for power, money, and in many cases, for the sake of war.

This topic is, of course, made for the purpose of dispelling the myth that religion is the cause of all, most, or even many wars throughout history. Assuming that the Encyclopedia documented every war in known history (the book goes as far back as 2325 B. C.), religion has been the cause of about seven percent of all wars in the history of the world, and some of the above are extremely debatable (like the United States War on Terror).

And, not to attack Islam, but if that one religion were removed from the equation, all the other religions combined would account for about four percent of all the wars in history.

Religion the cause of most wars? No.

Do all religion topics have to be about the existence of God? That's quite narrow-minded.

This is important because all too often have I seen some angry kids on this website go "Religion is the cause of all wars in history!" and then twenty people will respond agreeing to him. I'm tired of that myth.

While your right and i dont approve of the viewpoint that religion is the primary cause of war at the basis of this thread is you trying to validate the existence of god through proving a point.

Religion: An insurance policy against death that disappears up in smoke the moment you try and claim on it.

Are you claiming that you are part of the cause of these wars then?

Please, don't call yourself christian if you're not abiding by the laws of the religion (yes, I did call them laws), one of which is NOT TO BASH YOUR RELIGION!!!

I myself find Dracargen's logic to be odd at times, but do you really think that he somehow came to the conclusion that

'religion isn't responsible for most wars in history = God exists'?

Good post. If it's one argument I can't stand it's that religion is responsible for most of the violence in the history of mankind. Illogical on so many levels. To me that argument is just as weak as video games causing violence.

Hmm. That's still an ungodly amount of people who died, with an untold amount as colatteral damage. It starts to get eerie when deaths simply become statistics, only to be tallied up by some subordinate.

Maybe he doesn't like how people use this 'religion is the reason people go to war' argument when apparently it's wrong, not to mention that it isn't really an argument against God's existence since he could be a war-mongering God (which he is a lot of the time if you read the OT).

To the creator, you have already started a war of words on a gaming community!

Religion did not cause this, your bashing of religion did. This will continue as long as humans seek the truth and attempt to be on good terms with our creator, ignorant pathetic excuses for a human such as yourself will start wars, simple as that.

If my objective was to prove or otherwise validate the existence of God, don't you think I would only focus on Christianity? All the wars I posted are of different religions; some Christian, some Islamic, some of everything.

In fact, I believe the cause of problems for humanity is AMERICA!

Just the other day, they said China's increase in military budget will cause world "instability" when they themselves account for nearly 100% of all modern wars, the largest military spending BY FAR, AND the only use of nuclear weapons in the history of humanity!

No its not, because if you look at this "harm" done by religion, in nearly 100% of cases, it is non-religious people trying to destroy the religious group's belief. It still happens to this very day, and in fact, the disassociation of government from religion in the west is truly a sign of this immorality that is lying ahead

[QUOTE="Arab_2008"]Thats not ignorance my friend, its the truth. Go ahead and make another stupid reply using my words, you're not hurting me, you're only showing your immaturity.Arab_2008

Please read my opening post. My argument is that religion is the cause of less than seven percent of all wars in known history--meaning, my argument is that religion is not the cause of all the evil it is attributed to ("religion causes all the wars in the world!").

Nonetheless, you pointed out the wars that religions (according to you) DID cause, thereby suggesting that religion, although not starting a majority of wars, did cause a lot of problems. This is simply not the case!

That is ignorance. Many if not all ideologies cause problems. Religion is no exception.

If my objective was to prove or otherwise validate the existence of God, don't you think I would only focus on Christianity? All the wars I posted are of different religions; some Christian, some Islamic, some of everything. Dracargen

You may be defending the universal idea of a god.Surely you dont believe that yours is the only true religion, because that my friend, would be very narrow-minded.

Dracargen

Then how would you explain the suffering of humanity that came before the year 1776?

Top secret American time machines.

Okay, Arab_2008, in the Cursades it was Christians vs. Muslims. Which side was the non-religious? ;)
