Yeah, to dispel the notion that religion is responsible for most of histories wars. You know its not going to stop people from saying it.So why bring up such an irrelevant point if your already secure within your belief?

Dracargen

Because, maybe, people won't keep saying it. Why do people argue at all if they're secure with their positions? So that their opponent can learn more about his position.

In one form or another, you and i both know that people will continue blame war on religion. They will either ignore your point or try to cut corners.

[QUOTE="Dracargen"]If my objective was to prove or otherwise validate the existence of God, don't you think I would only focus on Christianity? All the wars I posted are of different religions; some Christian, some Islamic, some of everything. xxDustmanxx

You may be defending the universal idea of a god.Surely you dont believe that yours is the only true religion, because that my friend, would be very narrow-minded.

If all gods existed, then that would contradict my own pretty badly.:|

I'm not defending the existence of God. . .pure and simple. You have misinterpreted my position, and have for some reason gotten angry about the position you thought I took. I told you why I made this topic, and I know more about why I made this topic than you, so I'm not going to discuss this further.

big WTF moment when i saw that title next to that name on the OT forum page.

but yeah, even then, most of those wars have had some other motives.

End to religion would not be an end to war, but it would be one less excuse.

In fact, I believe the cause of problems for humanity is AMERICA!

Just the other day, they said China's increase in military budget will cause world "instability" when they themselves account for nearly 100% of all modern wars, the largest military spending BY FAR, AND the only use of nuclear weapons in the history of humanity!

Zagrius

Then how would you explain the suffering of humanity that came before the year 1776?

Top secret American time machines.

It all makes sense.

Wait a second! That was not the case at all!!! it was a case of power hungry leaders who mislead people, just like the US today. Religion had nothing to do with it! it was just brought in name, nothing more!

False, again. Very few wars were caused by people who wanted to destroy faiths. Most of these religious wars were usually political in nature, since their politics were religious in nature.

And seperation of Church and State isn't immoral. It makes sure religion holds no sway over government.

Besides, there is only one actual secular nation in the Middle East (assuming that is the region you are complaining about).

I would definitely argue this in some cases, but do you honestly think that that argument can account for every religious conflict in history?

Those wars were started because of religion, not by religion. It is still stupid humans thinking they have something to prove. It isn't religions fault they are stupid.

Im not complaining about the middle east, but if you truly look at some of the wars and such, you will see that it is another case of the faithful being bullied by the more powerful non-faithful (Western governments, which we all agree have been seperated from religion, and are thereby aethiest)

I love the way that the title of this topic is not at all what's in the original post. I also love the way there are 3 different arguements going on about things that the TC didn't write, imply, or otherwise include in his attempt to spread knowledge. Unfortunately, the same principles that the's telling the community about are springing forth to muddy the waters and destroy the beneficial elements of the discussion.

We like to fight. It's in our nature. If we weren't fighting, we'd be finding ways to be pissed off so we could fight! Religion may have been a contributing factor in a small amount of wars over documented history, but that was just the convenient excuse at the time. Thank you contributing posters to proving that we'll do anything to bring about conflict regardless of it's results.
