Star Wars Ep IV, V and VI only slightly (very slightly) > Lord of the Rings.
However if I have to include the fail that is I, II and III then Lord of the rings would be higher as those 3 abominations drag the Star Wars series down too many levels.
i like star wars more (original series), but the lord of the rings movies are just better movies, at least the first 2 are. I'd say first 2 lotr, then original star wars, then the 3rd lotr, then some other random movies, then star wars ep2, then some more randoms movies, then ep1 then ep3.
This. Star wars is waaay tooo overrated. The Lord of the Rings, and it's not even close.

Tolkien is better than George Lucas in every conceivable way.Allicrombie
Disagree, they are both average writers.
[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"]This. Star wars is waaay tooo overrated. And LotR isn't? Tolkien invented a good story and a good setting, but, to put it bluntly, he's an awful storyteller and writer. The movies definitely make up for Tolkien's shortcomings though. The Lord of the Rings, and it's not even close.

Lord of the Rings, because the prequels, stupidity in the expanded universe and Lucas cocking up the old ones with weird changes kind of takes it down for me.
Still love Star Wars, but LotR is better in terms of quality and writing I think.
To be honest, I don't know why everybody complains about Tolkien's story telling. He has a very old-style....almost biblical quality to his works. He may drag on on some instances, but if you are into the fiction of LOTR then you reaaly appreciate those extra details since they give more insight into the world most of the time. People told me that The Silmarilion is a drag to read, as soon as I picked it up I was amazed and couldn't put it down. There's so much content and quality in every single line he writes.
And also, there are only 2 good Star Wars movies (IV and V) and even Empire doesn't come close to any of the LOTR films. I personally don't even know why people like Goerge Lucas. As a director, his ability to use the medium of film to create something amazing is rather pathetic. His camera work is atrocious...all the side wipes and what not; he is also a horrible writer. He lacks any real skill. He only got lucky with 2 films only because the fiction of Star Wars is so good.
I choose Lord of the Rings because I like the high fantasy setting Tolkein has created and generally prefer the swords and sorcery found in Dungeons & Dragons, The Witcher etc.
That and I hate Lucas for not including the original films in 1080p unaltered and unperverted with all that bullsh*t such as Obi-Wan scaring off the Tuskan Raiders by pretending to be a ghost and Hans shooting second. That and his plans to erase the original trilogy from even occurring. http://www.nbcmiami.com/blogs/popcornbiz/How-George-Lucas-May-Try-to-Erase-Star-Wars-And-Why-Thats-a-Good-Idea-138579209.html
Are you talking about the franchise or the movies?
I love the star wars franchise, but those movies were terrible. Only good one was Empire Strikes Back.LOTR is one of the best fantasy films ever made thought I hear The Hobbit is the best in the franchise.
I'm not going to get into how bad the Star Wars films were, Mr. Plinkett's famous review pretty much explains everyone's issue with them. (ironically his critque is more entertaining than the second trilogy itself. You almost want to watch the movies just so you can see him take it apart. )

Too bad I don't let another person's opinion affect my own. Star Wars as a whole was very good. Some of the episodes are worse than others, but for the most part they're enjoyable.
I will always choose a superior fantasy show/movie over a superior sci-fi show/movie. Just personal preference. Some people like sci-fi best; I like fantasy best. Although I really enjoyed the Star Wars franchise.

Many people say "George Lucas ruined my childhood." George Lucas didn't ruin my childhood, He just continues to disappoint my adulthood. Some Random Internet Guy
