A lot of people, particularly Americans, say that the U.S. is the greatest country on Earth. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? I believe that The United States is overrated, and that The United Kingdom is a better country. The following are my reasons:College education is less expensive in the U.K. and is highly subsidized, unlike in the United States where tuition prices can exceed $40,000 per year, and where most colleges are privatized. Why should something so necessary be private and expensive, and subsequently unattainable or impractically attainable for most people?Medical Coverage is highly subsidized in the U.K. In fact, as far as I know, EVERY U.K. Citizen has medical coverage. On the other hand, in the U.S., unless a person has medical coverage, they can wind up paying tens of thousands of dollars on medical bills. What a shame. You might be thinking 'But what about Medicaid and Medicare?' As far as I know, the public health insurance companies under these two systems can deny coverage for certain medical needs (certain surgeries because they're too expensive or are considered cosmetic), whereas in the U.K. this is less likely or not likely to happen. The United States' debt is a wopping $15 trillion dollars, which is 102% of its GDP, while that of the U.K. is £1,278.2 billion, which is 85% of its GDP.The U.K. doesn't have a host of its millitary personnel stationed in other countries indefinitely and doesn't have a habit of sticking its nose in the business of other countries. The U.S.'s gun laws are too lax. Every citizen should not have the right to a firearm; it simply leads to too many gun-assaults and homicides. Furthermore, the U.S.'s police force uses guns, which is why there are always cases in which police use excessive (fatal) force against suspects when they do not have to. On the other hand, in the U.K., gun laws are more strict and most police officers do not use guns (yet they are very effective at their job).Skins Anyhow, what are your thoughts? Discuss. By the way, I'm an American citizen.
