At this point, why not?

You can create new jobs, have two completely new and dependable revenue streams and balance the budget!

Grandma, Grandpa and Retired Vets get to keep getting their checks and healthcare, we don't need any new taxes and people will generally be a lot happier.

How come no Democrat or Republican or Independent has brought that to the table? Why are there no research studies being done to determine the amount of tax revenue those two potential industries could provided for the USA?

What are we waiting for?

Marijuana I agree 100% with (I'd also like to legalize some/all hard drugs including cocaine), prostitution I have mixed feelings on but tend to oppose mainly because I don't want to see women pressured or forced into prostitution to pay off debts.

We have our ethical standing to think of. We, Americans, founded and created this country. (Well actually Native Americans were here first). And built this country on the backs of Americans. (Well not really). We are a symbol of hope to the world and we can't lose that hope.
You know what? Forget everything I said
That would be a nice start, all we need to do next is stop spending so much money. We can not spend our way out of a recession.

Pot. I agree. We spend billions policing it (and failing at that), lock up thousands of inmates for a petty crime. And at the end of the day it causes no significant damage (at least less than beer or cigs)

Prostitution: No. This really is a negative for equality as it helps proliferate the image of woman as objects (sure there are man whores, but they are significantly less a problem). Not to mention as someone noted, it incourages woman in desperation to sell themselves. No one should ever be put in such a situation.

Not only will legalization of these things bring in tax revenue, but a lot of money will be saved for law enforcement with these things legalized. It's not a coincidence that the US incarceration rate has shot up ever since Nixon declared the war on drugs. And now we're at a point where our prisons have become so overpopulated that we have to release criminals onto the streets to make room for all these possessors and third time offenders.

As for prostitution specifically - prostitution is going to happen regardless - it'd be much preferable that prostitutes are in a safe, regulated work environment where they can have actual rights rather than be owned by some scumbag pimp.

Women? Why not men too?

And we're not talking about standing on a corner with a PIMP anymore.

We're talking about federally regulated Brothels, complete with health inspections and everything else.

And we're also talking about FDA approved Pot - pot has to meet certain chemical standards so people aren't just stuffing Oregano and Basil in those joints!

I'm talking about a complete High-Class operation here!

Clearly the only thing capable of saving the economy is bringing back Gladiators for a third series. There's nothing like two men beating each other with overlarge cotton buds to stimulate growth in the financial industry.

i agree that legalized marijuana would do more help than harm. prostitution, i really don't see why it is illegal if both people are consenting and old enough. if there were prostitution companies that could ensure that their girls were clean and only clean people could f*** them, sounds good to me. i probably wouldn't go there, but if someone else wanted to i don't see why they shouldn't be able to.

It's still a s***load of money.

It'd be a lot more if we just stopped the drug war altogether.

Not to mention, violent crime would go down, and people whose crimes have no victims wouldn't be wrongfully jailed.

Prostitution, no, absolutely not, there are so many problems that would be caused.

Pot maybe, but alot more study needs to be done scientifically and socially before we even consider legalizing it.

Coming from somebody that is generally for the legalization of marijuana, this argument is very poor, you're basically saying life already sucks, why not just make it worse?
