Yes, they CAN kill you. And as I said, that is EXTREMELY unlikely to happen. Even without any kind of medical help whatsoever, the majority of people bitten by black widows do not die. Nearly everyone who dies is either very young, very old, or very sick.
And that is WITHOUT medical attention. With modern medicine, these spiders hardly ever kill anyone. The chances of dying fom a black widow bite in the modern age in the USA are almost nil. It only happens VERY rarely.
And again, this shouldn't be surprising. Black widows are VERY common, and they have a very notorious tendency to live in the places where humans live. The live in small dark cravices, and are very comfortable living in people's homes. There are a HELL of a lot of black widows living in very close proximity to humans, and even living in people's homes. So...why is it that hardly anyone ever dies from a black widow bite? Because they just aren't that deadly, that's why.
On the other hand, black widows can and probably will do more than "make you sick for a few days." Yes, a black widow bite will almost certainly NOT kill you. But from everything I've heard, getting bitten by a black widow can be UTTER HELL. You won't die (probably). But the chances that you WANT to die just to get the pain to stop are pretty high. It's not "just sick for a few days". It's a LOT worse than that. Seriously, as much as I make light of them because they are just dumb little spiders, you do NOT want to get bitten. A bite won't kill you, but you're gonna be in a world of hurt. Everything I've seen indicates that bites from these spiders can be a hellish experience.
But again, that's not the real issue here. It's still just a spider. Not even terribly fast or agile on the spider scale. Once you've found a black widow, you can kill it easily with absolutely no threat to yourself. The problem is that you have only found ONE black widow. The one he found isn't an issue. He can kill that, no problem. The problem is that that black widow can from an egg sac containing HUNDREDS of eggs. If one of the spiders that hatched from that egg managed to reach adult size in the TC's home, then I guarantee that there are OTHER black widow spiders in his home that he HASN'T found yet. The question here is, where are those black widows hiding? In in shoes? In his bed sheets? Did a black widow start a home in the cables behind his computer? When he breaks out his best suit to go on a date, is there a black widow living inside his closet? The problem is NOT the black widow that he found and now wants to kill. At least he knows where that spider is. The problem is the spiders that ARE in his home, and that he HASN'T found yet. They are there, I guarantee it. If he found one, then there are others. So where are they? In his shoes? In his bed? In his hat? Beats me. But they have to be somewhere. And the black widow spider that he found is the LEAST of his worries.

Impossible... it's already dead. o.o even so, I can't imagine myself trying keep one of those things alive. I have a dog. o.oYou could just capture it and put it outside. Everything doesnt need to be killed.

To black widows? Two Black Widows actually. One was a male and the other a female.
All the other times I have done it is with any other insect I have seen in the house.
I will never play with a Brown Recluse though. I have seen the damage they can do and it isnt pretty.

To black widows?Again, it doesn't really matter if it's a black widow or not.
Many people have been doing this to spiders for their entire lives, and how many have ever been bitten in the process? Probably not many.
Again, if you EVER get bitten by a spider, one of two things probably happened: Either you were just plain playing with it, or you got bitten because you never even knew it was there.
Black widows aren't particularly fast or agile, as far as spiders go. Catching them and releasing them is really just as safe and easy as flat-out squashing them with a flyswatter.

Geezer I completely agree with you.
I hate when some one sees a spider and their first reaction is to kill it.

I know the brown recluse is very deadly.. but isn't the Black widow rather poisonious too? my dog tends to try biting insects, see. =/ as for sparing bugs, I don't spare flies, since I've seen what they can do if you don't get rid of 'em. And I tend to kill the spiders since I'm far to useless in the area of 'catching' 'em. :P but, with things like lady bugs and Daddy long legs... I just leave 'em.

To black widows?Baconbits2004

Or you can be a man and kill it mercilessly.
I've see a few poisonous spiders around in my bedroom here in Australia - I normally catch them in a tea cup and let them out. I'd recommend trying to find a way to do something similar and let the little fella run wild outdoors :)

Sure its manly to stand on a spider - get the girls around and watch them shriek with adulation at my bravery...

"Blow it out your ass."
jk :P. Just trap the spider in a cup or jar, then throw it outside. Why kill it when you can just let it go outside. Then again, Black Widows are indoor spiders and will probably make its way back into your house anyway. In that case, you can trap it in a jar, then suffocate it.
I love how that spider has a red exclamation mark on its abdomen.
Like the MGS series, when you see a red exclamation point that means it knows where you are and it will most likely kill you on sight.:P

don't kill it. there is no reason to kill it.EMOEVOLUTIONI always move insects outside, but I see killing the black widow as an act of self defense. You may or may not get bit trying to catch it, but the fact that you can should be enough to just kill it right away. You move it outside chances are it will mate and it's offspring will be around the house.
