Overrated? I don't think so. Metal is one of the least popular genres of music.
It's more popular than folk, electronica, classical, jazz, soul and other genres. Metal musicicians have HUGE concerts. If I can pick 8 random teenagers, I'm sure at leastone will listen to some Metal. However I doubt I can pick 8 random teenagers and at least one from every group will say they enjoy some nice baroque music.

Yeah, my hair gets tangled really easily, but I guess it's not that surprising since mine is a bit past my shoulders length-wise. My hair moves around a lot, so that seems to be what's causing the tangles, but conditioner really helps to de-tangle it.
Beachesxboxdudeman800Those are definitely overrated. You stand there all out of shape and uncomfortable. You have to take a shower when you go home cause of all the sand. You swim in water that for all you know the little kid next to you could have just pee'd in and on the way home your car gets all dirty with sand and salt water.

Well, for starters, I wasn't only referring to how hard it is to play a Metal song. I was referring mainly to the compositional talent in which other genres are superior in. Metal mainly focuses on intensity 95% of the time. Plus Classical composers ar far superior in musical complexity and craftsmanship, yet that music has been pushed aside by intensity.
And Metal really only focuses on guitar, bass, drums and vocals. I am not hearing the MANY instruments out their today.
And metal guitarists use very few techniques compared to other guitarists. No free strokes or rest strokes. Solos with only the guitar, and no backround music rarely feature a dynamic or rhythm. And guitar solos mainly get VERY repititious in the genre itself.

Actually, there are many bands in Metal that use more than just the standard instruments. Many make use of the keyboard, violin, fiddle, Cello, and other various instruments that are used in a symphonic fashion. I've heard plenty of bands that commonly use such symphonic elements with variation at times. There are also many bands that I've heard that use varying techniques, such as Dream Theatre, or Symphony X, and Seventh Wonder.
The thing about Metal, is that you can't just judge it from a couple bands or songs, it has many layers of depth to it and many different sub-genres that vary in style and sound. You need to do lots of exploring to get a real feel for it.

yes...yes I do.You know what? Now that I think of it, Rap is for penniless poser gangsters that lack grammatical structure, Rock is for peace-loving hippies that hug trees and are opposed to meat, and country is for brainless hicks that do nothing but slum around the house while beating their wife and drinking liquor.
There, I can generalize entire genres of music like a brainless drone just like you did. You know, you really make a striking point there by saying that it's just for kids that want to be hardcore with no proof or valid points to speak of. I guess the burden of proof is merely for stuck-up people that obviously haven't a clue as to what they're talking about.
Generalizing is great.

Of course there is always one or two examples that defeat a stereotype, yet I am aiming and the general Metal piece being produced. And even though a few bands use other instruments, I still find the genre's composers are dominated by other composers of different superior genres. And the violin is the same as the fiddle. It depends on what genre you play it in. Nonetheless I believe it is overrated because there are less popular genres that are superior to it.

Believe me, there's plenty of examples that use many other instruments, as I said before, you have to actually look for it instead of say it's not there. And the fiddle is not the same as the violin, the fiddle is smaller and produces higher tones. Either way, it's obvious we're getting nowhere, so let's just end it here.

Even then, that applies to the bigger metal bands, which there aren't that many of. And it's not like Metal is a talentless genre, so I don't see how it's overrated.
Because there are superior genres that aren't listened to as much today, because people today seem to care more about intensity over quality...
What makes it less qualitative? Metal is by no means an easy genre to play. Just listen to Dark Tranquillity or Opeth and you'll see what I mean. Those are just a couple bands off the top of my head, and I've got plenty more.

My main arguement is that Metal is overrated because there are genres creating superior composition that are less popular. And originally the violin was called a fiddle in bluegrass and country music, and fiddles were made easier to play for those genres. Please Log In to post.
