This is why I keep guns

Gun control would take most guns off the hands of criminals as well, so neither person has to worry about guns. Use a knife or a baseball bat or something.

It just seems like guns do more harm than good.

I am not old enough to legally own a firearm, but I have some other weapons in my house. (Giant knifes, really tall lamps that make good weapons, and a huge PC monitor that would kill someone if you dropped it on them)... :P

This is more than a policy debate. Think of what happens after you shoot and kill someone trying to rob your house. You just murdered that person. What's more valuable, your plasma TV or a human's life? It seems hypocritical that all these anti-abortion people are pro-gun rights. It just doesn't make any sense...

I have a feeling that US is probably the most dangerous country in the world by all of these videos and information! Plus most of them have guns at home which is illegal in the UK.

All you have to do is register. You aren't trained how to use it, you aren't expected to know how to use it either - just to be able to fill out a form and wait three days...

Regardless,aperson entering your home does not mean youshould get away with using a firearm...the law says use justifiable force...a gun is not justifiable unless it was in your hand or in the room...if you went into adifferent room to get the weapon then it is pre meditated and you should go down for life.

Now that is not necessarily what I believe, but it is how British law works, our laws have been modifiedby the US to construct yourown lawswhich unfortunately contradictso much just for the sake of an amendment

You are generalizing. I've been using fireams since I was a child and I have taken courses on how to properly and safely use firearms as an adult.

Also, if someone is in my house threatening my family's safety and my own, a gun is a justifiable defense weapon.

If guns kill people, pencils maek peepal mis spel wurds, cars make people drive drunk and forks make people fat.

After reading this thread, I was unsure if I should inject some sensibility into it, but no one will pay attention to what I have to say anyway, so I'll have a go...

This part hasn't been mentioned enough. The colonists were getting 'gang-banged' by King George 3. (not your fault, in modern UK) We still remember that. What if Poland, France etc. had common-man firearms more available, or if the Jewish population of the time was gun toting? How quickly would the devastation of the Blitzkreig gone through then? This I think is more to the point of gun ownership in USA. We are supposed to hold our government accountable to us, and many in USA are a little worried about the power our Federal Branch is gaining.

Now I'm not about to scream "revolution" and start popping off government people,but I want to be darn sure they know I won't just give up to some dictator's whim.

I don't think the US should be able to sell the types of guns you can buy and the system of buying them defiantly should be changed. In the UK to get a gun you have to go through a lot of police procedures and you need a clean record too, and for every type of gun you want, you have to get another license.

Agreed on the some control of guns. (I am pro-gun, though) Here's one problem with anti-gun control groups, - We realize 2nd amendment was put there to so farmer Joe could feed his family in the wilderness of our younger nation. We also know it was put there to keep armies guessing twice about invading us-I have an ancestor who was a Minuteman (citizen militia), or to keepa "potentially despotic government" (written in the Declaration Of Independence) from becoming another monarchylikethe onewe wanted to be freedfrom. Sowhen our government seeks to disarm us-we get a little upset- so much so, that we believe ANY legislation about controlling private guns is going to eventually go bad for the gun owner.

This cynicism may be un-founded, but those who want to disarm us, know for certain we are going to be watching their attempts. It will be very difficult to even limit the amount/type of guns we'll own. But it will never be less than one per citizen, they now understand.
