No. People have seen Shakespeare. He wrote. He was famous for his plays. He's studied in history textbooks and has beenconfirmed to have, indeed, existed. Jesus and Shakespeare have NOTHING in common. Pick a better example :|

I just watched this movie called ZEITGEIST: The Movie and it just blew my mind. This is a small portion of the movie that im SURE will suck you in!!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GRZmzf7WiNg&mode=related&search= *The full movie is about more then just this topic, but its all linked together as im sure most of you thinkers out there know. if your interested the full video can be watched FOR FREE at their website http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ I find it extreamly interesting that they talk about media and entertainment as a device to keep us stupid and in the dark. Lets talk about your thoughts of this get piece of work ----------UPDATE July 05 2007------------------------------------------------------------------ Arguments: 1, Choga , and other religious people here argue that... -This movie claims that Jesus has common traits as Thor. Choga and others say Thor was NOT born of a Virgin like Jesus. Therefor this movie is BS and should be ignored as False Answer: Jesus was the SON of a GOD (Yahweh) Thor was the SON of a GOD (Odin) -Thereform, this argument is not reasonable. 2, lovemenow and other religious people argue that... -We have no facts on when 'Shakespeare' was born, just like jesus. therefor, with this logic given, we are forced to believe... Jesus and Shakespeare must not have existed. Answer: -We have hundreds of documents made by Shalespeare himself and thousands of people who account for his life. -Documents made by jesus, Zero. -Accounts for jesus during his apparent life, Zero -First known accounts for jesus, about 75 years after his life written by people who never met or knew him. think.Evolving_Jesus

Hurray for jobless bums like me :D
I'm focusing on one piece of this movie. As soon as I work that over, the rest will follow suit. The video is disproving Christianity and religion as a whole. No need to pick Joseph to represent when ya got Jesus
I'll get to my point sometime tomorrow when this gets bumped again or something.
the problem with the jesus myth idea is that there is some authentic historical evidence from historians such as josephus, tacitus, and pliny the younger. The Gospels also vividly record the life of Jesus. While that is not that much evidence, consider this.
There is absolutely no historicalevidence from 1st century historians that suggests that the person whom early christians worshipped never in fact existed. the Jesus myth theory is a sham
[QUOTE="Choga"][QUOTE="funnymario"][QUOTE="Choga"][QUOTE="funnymario"][QUOTE="Choga"][QUOTE="marcocat"]Wow :shock:
Thanks a lot to evolving_jesus for posting this, it is not changing my mind since I'm atheist, but it certainly will reinforce my position about religions.

Don't. The whole movie is a load of inaccurate garbage.
Prove it :o
PS: I'm an athiest too :P
Well the dude who made the video got a whole bunch of his facts wrong. One example would be saying that Thor, son of Oden is ANYTHING like Jesus (which he isn't). Not only that, but this person cited no sources when making claims about pagan Gods who "fit the description" of Jesus.
That's not evidence. That's your views on the movie.
That is evidence. Thor has no similarities with Jesus. He also cited no sources for any of his "facts".
Thor Was a SON of a GOD JESUS WAS a SON OF a GOD BOOM, stop trying to mislead people.Wrong. Thor was son of A God. Jesus was son of THE God (to Christians of course). Stop trying to mislead people.
[QUOTE="SpaceMoose"]First of all know that this is coming form someone who criticizes Christianity on a regular basis. I certainly don't believe in it:
Okay, I've watched the first 15 mintues of this, and I cannot find any solid evidence (online at least) of all of those other mythological stories involving crucifictions, which would make sense since I'm pretty sure the Romans invented it...
This does not bode well for me trusting much of anything presented as fact in this video. That comedy bit (which I think was George Carlin, not entirely sure) was pretty funny though.
_MURS_
yeah, i wanna believe it.....but i havnt bothered doing any research on this yet...but at the end they just say Jesus doesnt exist.....its historical evidence that he does....i mean if they get the point in which they spent the entire video leading up to wrong....i dont know how credible it is....but it does sound very convincing....
Its true that jesus did exist but he was not the sun of god....more like gandhaiI can't believe he's saying Christianity rips off greek legends! Somebody said that Achilles' Heel was ripped off in the Bible, and the ONLY similarity was they both said "Heel"!:lol::lol:Silver_Dragon17its a well know fact that christianity is an outgrowth of Judaism.
remember, while there is little historical evidence outside the new testamentto prove that Jesus actually existed, there is absolutley no historical evidence to prove that Jesus never actually existed

So if it is already known it rips of Judaism, why is it such a surprise that it also might take aspects from other religions/philosophies as well?
Judiasm also took ideas from earlier beliefs as well...
And I read the thread you mentioned about achilles/christianity. He mentioned at least 7 or 8 other examples. I agree that the achilles one was not the best, but the others were failry good.

how exactly does judaism rip off of other beliefs? at the time God told abraham to leave Ur(I think it was Ur) there was no other monotheistic religion in the world at the time. everyone worshipped many other gods. while there are some subtle similarities between judeo christian theologies and pagan religions at the time of their creations, the differences are enourmous. the differences are too great to suggest that christianity and pagan mythology are somehow related to one another"Rips" is a bad choice of words, what I meant is, Judaism takes teachings and ideas from other theologies as well. You think Judaism is wholey unique and completely original in every aspect? for instance, early Judaism used animal sacrifice, is this unique to Judaism?dnuggs40well, no, animal sacrifice is not unique to Judaism. There are however many aspects that are unique to Judaism. For instance, at the time of its creation, Judaism was the only religion whose followers were commanded to worship only one god. Just about every other religion on earth would have you worship idols, a practice fiercely condemned in western religions
the federal reserve part was very interesting, but not that interesting once you realize that the government does have controls over the Fed. also, where exactly did they get the idea that ever penny of our tax dollars is going towards paying down the interest to the fed?mig_killer2The Banks charge us interest for make us our dollar. To pay back that interest, we use that same money that has that interest on it. Therefor, you can NEVER get out of debt since your forcing them to make more money to pay the interest. its a never ending cycle of debt that goes deeper and deeper. The IRS and the Income tax is the scam to help pay off that interest.
[QUOTE="Evolving_Jesus"][QUOTE="NatsuGaijin"]glad to hear it!!! please remember people, the only history of jesus youll find is what is in the new testament. (THAT IS NOT PROOF, thats like saying Peter Pan is Real cuz it says so in the book peter pan) AND those gospels of jesus were writen 40 years AFTER his apparent life... which means those people who wrote is never actually seen jesus... Quote from another great movie "The God who wasnt There" (Google video & YouTube) its like jesus lived and died... then everyone forgot for 40 years... then all of a sudden everyone remembered. You will not find a SHRED of evidence of jesus life during 0Ad to 33AD *time of his apparent life. No one at the time even knew there was anyone with the name jesus.I'm in the middle of watching it. Funny, because my friends have been bugging me to watch it and since you've posted it on GS- I was finally convinced.
I am completely consumed into the movie.

I'am sure jesus existed, but i consider him no different then those crazy street preachers you see on the streets.
Because, that's basically what he was.
Income tax is used to finance government operations like social services and the war.
We need the federal reserve no matter how much the movie would like to say to the contrary. Before the federal reserve, there were over 30,000 different currencies in circulation (howstuffworks.com). before the federal reserve, often times banks would not have enough money to honor withdrawls made by customers. The fed was created because the economy would often swing wildly from one extreme to another. the fed helps to control this. you really should read up more on the fed and economics before trying to promote this conspiracy theory propaganda
one more piece of BS. the income tax was not created in 1913. It was created during the civil war. that was when income tax was first created here in america
one more thing: the movie would have you believe that the interest the federal reserve charges goes into the pockets of international bankers. That is simply not true. the law says that any of the net earnings left over after the federal reserve bank's expenses are paid for goes right into the U.S treasury.
I watched the whole thing and it has really opened my eyes. I am very worried for my future and the future of everyone I know and care about :(.nooblet69im not cuz the whole movie is BS:P

'Look up everyone !!! here comes the great God of Forgiveness JESUS!!! he has come to JUDGE us all and send the bad people to Hell to burn forever!!!' hmmm... think about that one. why would he even care if we believed in him or not. he cant condemn me for using my mind which he apparently gave me. If this mythical jesus does come to earth to judge us all... ill simply state... "well sorry, there just wasnt enough evidence" if he is all loving and caring then he should forgive me and send me to heaven.... but in the mean time, ill use my sundays to worship and help my community. avoid all the hate and discrimination religions cause.... against gays, other gods and abortionist etc etc... and most importantly, think for myself using reason and logic. Martin Luther said it best. "Reason is a whore, the greatest enemy that faith has. " Martin Luther "Reason is the enemy of faith. " Martin Luther "Faith must trample under foot all reason, sense, and understanding. " Martin Luther Oh, and i can save %10 of my income thats a nice bonus too

I think what is at the root of this is the Federal Reserve system. While it does stabilise the economy the glaring problem is the interest they charge on every dollar they create. How do they get away with this? 25% of each American's labour is pointless. A quarter of the money they earn goes to pay off this interest, right into the pockets of the small amountbankers who run the Federal Reserve. Why doesn't the American government stop this? I think the government relies heavily on money from the bankers, money theycould not possibly get legally, and that's why they won't stand up and put a stop to this insane interest on the currency. That is basically the root of the problem, more people need to speak up and make others aware of this crazy situation. It is slavery.
The evidence to back up jesus not existing is that there is no evidence to back up him living. all we have are some letter paul wrote, years and yeeeeeears after jesus apparently died,. and the gospels which came 75 years or more after... If you read pauls letters, he is totaly unaware of the idea that jesus was a real person. he even says, "If jesus lived on earth, he would not be a teacher" its clear paul made jesus up as a myth to make nice stories and teachings. read the letters from paul himself... its clear. also, if you read the gospels, its clear they are copies of each other with new bits added to it as you read thru them.Evolving_Jesusthere is a little bit of evidense to suggest Jesus existed from Tacitus, Josephus, and pliny the younger. Tacitus and Pliny the younger talk about early christians, but Josephus actually talks about a man named jesus who was executed on the eve of passover. While that may seem like little evidence (because it is small) there is absolutely no evidence from contemporary historians to suggest that Jesus never existed. Also, the Gospels are not clear copies of one another. would you care to cite your source of this information? The movie would claim that Christianity is an off-shoot of Greek and Egyptian myth, this cannot be. The differences between the contemporary mythos and Christian doctrine are far too dissimilar to say that they are somehow interrelated. One more thing, while some would say there is no historical evidence for the existence of jesus from the time of jesus, you have to realize, there is almost no information about 1st century palestine that has survived to this day. The Romans destroyed many of the records after they sacked the Temple of Jerusalem after the Jewish revolt
well, the thing is, the movie would have you believe that all the money that the federal reserve makes from fees and interest goes into the pockets of international bankers, and businessmen. This is simply not true. It is true that most money for the funding of the federal government comes from the federal reserve bank. It is also true that much, and probably most of our tax dollars go toward paying off the debt to the federal reserve bank.I think what is at the root of this is the Federal Reserve system. While it does stabilise the economy the glaring problem is the interest they charge on every dollar they create. How do they get away with this? 25% of each American's labour is pointless. bradleybhoy
The movie would have you believe that the money that the Federal Reserve makes goes into the pockets of international bankers and businessmen. This is simply not true. since the creation of the federal reserve in 1914, roughly 95% of all the Federal Reserve's earnings have gone right back into the U.S treasury. By law, the Federal Reserve is required to pay the US treasury any and all of its earnings that are not used to maintain itself
Part 1 is complete BS. Part 2 and 3 are very true and anyone can see that.muchmoneyg
Say, Copernicus, how is Part 1 BS? Care to explain?
