Mhmmm
And what time range is considered "reasonable"?

If I owned a restaurant and someone didn't tip a waiter because of the music I'd tell them flat-out not to come back.
theone86
What if they're a regular who always comes with friends/family and orders the most expensive dishes?
Edit: And times before that, they would tip 20+%?

I'd probably tell them that if they have a problem with the music then ask for me or a manager and don't take it out on the wait staff. Also, I'd assume that the music would be consistent with the previous times they've been there.

I went to a store once and the workers there keep playing the same kpop dance song over and over again. Not exactly the same but you get my point.

5 minutes tops. 5 minutes tops for WHAT like, 5 minutes after you randomly decide you need them? The only time that I have never tipped is one time when I went to Friday's. The food took over 2 hours, and when it finally came out, it was the wrong food and it was burnt and cold. You just sound like a d*ck OP.

That would be the smart thing to do.

Probably.

Usually music at a restaurant is consistent and for ambiance, it's not for the wait staff's gratification. If there is a problem with the music, it's the manager or owner's problem and customers should talk to them.
[QUOTE="Jandurin"]protip - you're an awful personDevilMightCryI tip better than most.
You refuse to tip based on what music the restaurant is playing. The server doesn't even have control over that. So, you basically walk in to a restaurant, recognize you refuse to tip, still make the waitress wait on you hand and foot, and then leave with your belly full and write a self righteous post like this.
You suck.

I think he is being fair. Once the host sits you down 5 mins for the water to come seems resonable to me.
h3e's saying that after he gets his food he doesn't want any more waiter intrusion? unless i'm misreadingHere are some good tips on what not to do, compiled from my experience. 1. Get my order wrong. Wrong appetizers, meals and desserts. Beverages? Not so much. 2. Bring main course first then appetizers. There is a reason why it's called that. 3. Look for a server to order. I shouldn't have to look for anybody once I sit down. 4. You're playing annoying music in the background. I don't want to hear F$%&@#! music. You don't know my taste. I don't want to hear music, especially if it's loud, and hip hop. 5. You don't come to the table often enough. I want refills. When you see I look like I need one or something else, come and serve me, please. 6. You come to the table too often. STFU with the "How are we doing tonight" already! Can't you see me I am eating? 7. Don't touch me, my wife/girlfriend/S.O. or my kids. Don't asume I'm friendly. 8. Pre-determined gratuity. Ohh yeah? Your employer knows how much I was going to tip? Well, I guess then it's fine if you just get the bare minimum since they know better. 9. You don't greet me/welcome me, or don't thank me. 10. You're ugly. Or ugly and fat. Ugly fat people get less tip. Sorry, but.. dawrwinism at work.
DevilMightCry
It's not up to the waiter what music is playing. Waiters are trained to ask how customers are doing. Waiters don't assume you're friendly but they have to be friendly. The pre determined tip isnt up to the waiter.

They can pass that info to the owner. In that case, I won't be back. I can still appreciate rest of the service the waiter provides.Sometimes I go into a restaurant and the wallpaper sucks. No tip for stupid waitress.
Also, if she's fat or male.
a thought i had the other day i'll tip an attractive nice waitress more than say a dude but women are notoriously bad tippers, so i wonder if attractive men get any bonus for being attractiveSometimes I go into a restaurant and the wallpaper sucks. No tip for stupid waitress.

not surprised the church had already taken all of their moneysomeone I knew who had many years as a waiter during different schedules told me the worst tippers are the church groups.

TC you're an a-hole.
90% of what you stated has nothing to do with the waitress/waiter, and all to do with kitchen and management. You're going to stiff the server because the MANAGEMENT decided to put music on that's annoying to you? You're going to stiff them because the KITCHEN screwed up your order?
And you're not king shlt, sorry, you're of the same priority everyone else is, and nobody is a mind reader. Give the waitress a wave if you need something. Not tipping somebody because they're unattractive is disgusting. You're tipping for service, not eye candy unless you're eating at a strip club.
I don't know if you're actually that delusional or are trolling, but learn to use a takeout menu. Nobody wants to deal with people like you and certainly not on a server's wage with little or no tip.

^ that isn't how it works at every establishment xileJandurinNot every, but a good number, and since I don't know exactly what restaurants this ass is doing this at, I'll go the worst-case-scenario road and let him know exactly what he could be doing to people. Most friends I have that are servers have to tip out at least a certain amount each day because tips aren't considered part of your wage here I guess, so everybody who 'helped' serve a person gets some. More places seem to be doing this so the owner doesn't have to give the other staff raises, they all get a little 'raise' from tips. It's especially bad in the parts of the USA and other places where servers aren't even entitled to minimum wage. I've heard as low as $3 an hour, the entire wage is made up of tips and they still have to share. It's kind of horrifying, but google search it and you'll see how often it does happen and how irritating it is to the staff that it happens to.
servers aren't even entitled to minimum wageXilePrincess
Not, strictly speaking, true. Basically, if tips don't match minimum wage in a pay period, then the employer is req'd to put up the difference.

yeah but anyone not making minimum wage is probably long since firedter and I knew that one of my customers had this attitude I wouldn't serve them at all. And if I owned a restaurant and a waiter wouldn't serve a customer for that reason I would totally back my staff up.theone86
If I were a waiter and I knew that one of customers had this attitude, I'd hope to get the chance to serve him so I can dip my helmet in his soup.
