[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Ah you don't want justice....you want vengeance. Doesn't speak highly of you.....LJS9502_basic

So punishing someone for their crimes is vengeance now? What twisted logic you got there! Someone kills someone else, says they regret and will not do it again, ok good to go! A person dies, there needs to be punishment. Justice is not only about treatment, there needs to be accountability.

But we're going off-topic.

It's called the Justice system....and it seeks to do the right thing. And sometimes that means treatment for someone that is clearly under mental illness or duress. IF someone snaps...they are not generally convicted and sentenced to jail but to a mental health facility. And you have no empathy. Which is NOT a good trait. Tends to belong to the sociopaths of the world.

I'm not sure empathy is the word you're looking for...

No, I don't show any sympathy whatsoever towards people that go on a killing spree on innocents. The fact they snapped or were under mental distress should be taken into consideration but in no way should anyone get a free pass because of that. I remember a case a few years ago of a mother that set his 3 kids on fire. There were people on national TV defending her, for crying out loud.

Also, stop assuming dumb things about me, you know nothing about me, limit your observations to the topic being discussed.

[QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]This is Gamespot, and you are commenting about his post count--which is ironic considering how the majority of your posts are about a blind devotion to a piece of plastic. The irony is quite... amusing, indeed. I'm a gamer who doesn't have a blind devotion to any form of plastic for that would be silly.Stevo_the_gamer
Well you're the one who have claimed that and you have more than double the posts I have and I'm more active than you here while you spend more time in SW. Where do you get the "blind devotion" from? I prefer the PS3 but I criticize it fairly too. This is GS but there are different boards, I consider SW a silly place to have fun unlike some people who take it too seriously.

You hold a devotion to a piece of plastic, it's cute how you're trying to deny it by substituting preference instead of outright fanboyism-- a notion in which you have shown for quite a long time at GS' SystemWars. Anywho, I have been posting at OT for years, I don't frequent it everyday so you may or may not be more active. The end result matters little because... oh yes, seriousness, you say? Quite ironic is how you take this forum seriously. Taking the internet seriously is in one way fine and another way it's not... oh the delicious irony.

Is not about taking the internet seriously is about taking the subjects you talk about seriously. I take debating about video games less seriously than debating about religious ethics for example. Be it in the internet or not.

Yes, my posts show no empathy towards the murderer, that's right. I usually save my empathy to the victims.

Is there any evidence confirmed to suggest that this individual was suffering from mental illness, as opposed to merely killing a bunch of people for the fun of it?

And even if he had a mental illness how come the terrorist are not given, emphatically, the benefit of the doubt too? Maybe they are all crazy and should be analyzed and put in mental institutions.

Are you being retarded or just talking out you behind here. Clearly you have no idea what war means or what rank he was or how long he was in the military before this happed.

Considering terrorists plan the entire thing out and don't act on the spur of the moment I don't see the comparison. But then again it's not the first....and won't be the last.....time you made excuses for terrorists.

I'm not making excuses for terrorists I'm using your same logic you use to excuse the actions of this guy to ask a question. I consider both type of actions inexcusable, unlike you.

To be fair, Palantas vs. kuraimen is hardly a fair match. He (Palantas, that is) is one of the best debaters on the site.

chessmaster1989

Indeed, Palantas is a much better debater than either kuraimen or LJ.

I miss Gabu and pianist though.

Indeed. Many years have come and gone since the passing of our dearest Gabu. For the rest of my days I will wonder how a man of such powerful intellect could relinquish his abilities for the sake of f*cking ponies.

He should get life. He is BEYOND treatment by going out of his way and kill 16 people. Who's to say he won't do it again? I won't say kill him, but will say give him life. Let him live with that in his conscious for the rest of his life instead of giving him an easy escape...

According to the news in addition to what was already said he also had three previous tours in Iraq within the past ten years and he is a staff sergeant.

It doesn't excuse his crime, but it may possibly make you wonder why it happened.

There is alot of crap going on over there. Those nice people have been trying to hurt troops and service men after some books got burned. Even our own command wanted to use ucmj on guys following orders and burning books. Opps some of them were quran's. Now the **** has hit the fan and the nice people have been throwing rocks and setting fires. Even cops have been taking shots at us over there. To call it stressful would be a understatement.

I work for the US Embassy, and will say that the US does a lot of good in developing countries, particularly as the State Dept priorities swing towards the East Asia-Pacific theatre. But as ever, bad news sells papers. I'll stop short of doing the trite "millions die every day" thing, but there is simply not an effective contingency towards eradicating these events.

Guess the men and women KIA plus the uncounted who have been hurt get no love. Personally I don't endorse what was done but I can understand why he did it if he did plan it.

Information so far would indicate that the guy had a breakdown and his actions would not seem intentional. However the question still remains of wether or not he should be handed over to the afgans.

From the interviews seen on TV it looks like they think it was a deliberate action.

Hand that scumbag over to the damn Taliban, he deserves it, and the problem of getting revenge on the U.S would be solved. But there'd still be the other couple thousand American soldiers that have don the same thing and gotten away with it, no doubt this guy will just get a slap on the hand and everyone will act like nothing happened.

I agree that by my standards also the justice system there is barbaric, however is it fair to let this guy go unpunished (in the eyes of the afgans obviously).

You fail to mention the rest of the Afghan population that has been KIA by the U.S soldiers. It's quite obvious that the civilians don't like the opressive Americans at all, so yes, they can set fires and throw rocks, it's there own country. Although it's foolish, anyone throwing a rock over there at a U.S soldier will probably get a military grenade thrown at themselves, innocent ot not.

I would never want to go to war with a bleeding heart liberal like you. Kid it is war you go where you are told and things happen. There is enough ordnance there to wipe everybody out but you think we just kill at will. I would like to see another country fight in a urban theater with so few civilian casualties. I guess you missed out on the whole taliban terrorist thing huh. They killed more civilians than we ever did in the same country. Soliders make it possible for you to sit home safe and type crap on the internet about them. You think they are so great how about you go there and see what happens if you think they are such nice people. Hell we just freed 2 french reporters last year who were kidnapped.

You think you can do better get off your ass and go fight for your country instead of talking BS. Put your money where your mouth is. If you still think america is so bad come talk about it here.

I don't agree with the previous poster but I cant agree with you either, expecially the bolded part, that is just crazy talk. The war in afganistan is a failure as is the one in Iraq.

You can burn a quran there and be killed. You can get a hand chopped off if you steal a loaf of bread cause you were starving. Women get beat to death for talking to another man the list goes on. This has been happening and will continue to happen when we leave.

And that somehow makes the killing of 16 civilians by an individual from an occupying force (e.g. NOT the taliban) acceptable?

Those things happen in a lot of fundamental muslem countries,Saudi Arabia for example, a good friend to the west as far as I know.

If you think for one second that these wars are talking place for humanitarian purposes you are at best deluded and at worst....

Please tell me you are trolling. If anything this incident will probably cause troops to get pulled out faster at the demand of the Afghans.

What a bunch of self-righteous BS. Conflicts are constantly happening from Africa to the ME who says you have to go and "save" anyone? The west is always trying to "save" others while a lot of the bad things that have happened to those others have been their own doing. Who says you are there to save and not for your own interests? Why is it that the US only gets so actively involved in regions where there's oil? You act as if the citizens of a country should be thankful you invaded their goddamn country even if it's clear they don't want you there and even if you kill several of them in the process. What a disgusting imperialistic mentality, why don't you bring a conflict to your own territory to see what it feels like to have a foreign force there constantly and to have a guy come into your house and massacre your family and then go away with a slap on the wrist. The US has been in that region for a long time helping destabilize whole nations, it is time they get the hell out of there and stop pretending they're helping anyone but themselves.

If they order you to the moon then you go. They say fight guess what happens you fight. You follow the chain of command end of story.

Here is some steps to avoid wars: Step 1) Don't start them. Step 2) Don't stay where you're not wanted.

I appreciate that but I doubt this guy was ordered to execute those families.

Hey when I was overseas will in the army......army doctors were providing free medical care to the indigenous population. But no one ever mentions that either.

Information so far would indicate that the guy had a breakdown and his actions would not seem intentional. However the question still remains of wether or not he should be handed over to the afgans.

From the interviews seen on TV it looks like they think it was a deliberate action.

tenaka2

Screw that not even their own want to go into that so-called justice system.

I agree that by my standards also the justice system there is barbaric, however is it fair to let this guy go unpunished (in the eyes of the afgans obviously).

He'll be dealt with properly by the UCMJ....which is at it should be. Likewise we'd turn an Afghan over to their government.
