Hmm, everyone got quiet all of the sudden.

Ending the War on Drugs does not mean legalizing drugs.. This point fell on its face right from the beginning.. The point being is it has become a money pit, it has greatly contributed to teh overflowing of our prisons, and it has not prevented drugs from being easily attainable in most areas.

I could post dozens of stories about how cops bust into homes and kill people for no reason, or how they bust into the wrong homes and kill people who are 100% innocent. I didn't think we'd have to resort to sensational media, but whatever man.

Yeah, the whole curbing availability thing hasn't worked out too well from an international standpoint either. Despite all the militia sent out to areas of mass drug production, heroin and cocaine's still pouring into America. Oh well... when you can't beat 'em...

Most of the people who have posted seem to want the legalization of them.

The US has absolutely insane drug laws, I'm so glad I don't live there. If someone tried some drugs they'd be doing something illegal, sure, but I wouldn't say that person is a criminal. They don't need to be put in jail with violent / dangerous members of society.

That's pretty much like throwing a kid in jail because he hit the booze before he was 18. He's not doing anything wrong or hurting anyone, he just wants to have a good time!

I always find it rather insane when I hear people saying they want drugs legalized. And not just marijuana, ALL drugs.

Yeah...that couldn't POSSIBLY have any adverse side effects.

I feel like HARDcore drugs should not be legalized, but I definitely think weed should be legalized.

I mean, I hate what it does to people, but they are choosing to screw themselves over, so let them do that.

Make it like alcohol where you have to be 21 to have it.

Imagine all the other (more productive) things we could have spent that money on. All the schools that could have been built, all the renewable energy resources that could have been invested in...that trillion dollars would have covered the health care bill on its own.

Atleast legalize weed and marijuana. Alcohol is arguably worse. here in the Netherlands weed is legal and we got no problems.

And your reasoning is.....?

My reasoning? Oh, I haven't go much to go on really, other than the fact that the only study that has ever shown marijuana to kill brain cells was done by forcing monkeys to inhale large quantities of smoke using gas masks. These masks suffocated the monkeys and killed brain cells by limiting the flow of oxygen. Since then, studies have shown that marijuana does not harm brain cells. On the contrary, it may stimulate brain cell growth or even help to fight brain cancer. So if you're still stuck on your reefer madness logic and point to faulty, outdated research then, well.....

The marijuana debate has been beaten to death on this forum. I didn't really feel like digging up links i've posted several times in the past, and i was kind of hoping after reading the facts so many times people might have actually started listening. No big deal really, if i'm going to spend time doing research it might as well be on a topic i'm interested in :D

Ha, I find it pointless to even get angry over this BS anymore...I just sit back and laugh at how ignorant all the politicians are(I would assume that at least SOME of them must realize that some drugs should be legal, but don't want to lose the election because of it) and also how ignorant general public is. Good news though is that us young'uns typically know whats right, so as we gain power hopefully the drugs will too. Salvia is becoming illegal ( I wish it would stay legal) ....I really hope mushroom spores remain legal. Weed will become legal at some point soon....so I basically have everything I need for life. I can make shrooms, DMT, mescaline, and weed will be legal. hopefully salvia doesnt get a nationwide ban. Oh well, what are you gonna do. I suggest you guys don't get too angry over this BS(if you do, atleast channel that anger into writing to state officials, or something like that to keep the cause going), it's simply not worth it to get angry. I suggest just laughing at how silly all these laws and how stupid the world is that we live in.

Oh and I hope you all know the true reason why the drug war started. Nixon wanted to end all of his vietnam war protesters(most of whom were hippies) so he thought if he started jailing all the marijuana and drug users then the protesting would stop.

If you're up for a lengthy yet fascinating read, I found an excellent article that details the full history of drug laws in the US. Very interesting stuff. and by the way spores are illegal in a few states, lets just hope it stays in those few :D http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm

good find, and ya, unfortunately they are illegal in a few states, but the good news is that only people truly interested in making their own mushies really know about it. As long as the general public (or the media) doesnt discover just how truly easy it is to make your own shrooms, we should be ok for a while

That's a lovely theory, but wasn't marijuana criminalisation a continuous process throughout the 20th Century and possession already illegal about 30 years before Nixon came to office? :?

Um, most of the war on drugs is not centered around weed. You want to legalize heroin and cocaine?

sonicare

The USE of heroin and cocaine? Sure. People who want to use heroin and cocaine will use it anyway.

But that doesn't mean that DISTRIBUTING heroin and cocaine needs to be illegal, or that distributing marijuana needs to be illegal.

Why can't we keep going after dealers and stop prosecuting users?

No we dont. There are some drugs which should absolutely not be legal whatsoever, many in fact. What we need to do is stop wasting billions locking people up because they have a drug problem (as if they do it by choice...) or because they have half a spliff in their pocket and start re-focusing that money on tackling inner-city poverty (which is the biggest contributor to major drug addiction), education (which leads to inner city poverty) and prioritizing efforts against drug DEALERS and crime organisations, not the users.

Someone who's high is just as dangerous behind the wheel as someone who is drunk.

I don't see the point in adding something else for the cops and motorists to worry about.

airshocker

Uh...if someone is already willing to use illegal drugs, what is stopping them from going out and driving while under the influence of such drugs?

Why shouldn't those drugs be legal?

You think heroin should be legal? People should be going home and injecting themselves with needles, and that should be a legal activity? Heroin is also incredibly addictive, and letting anyone just go buy themselves some is in effect telling people that it's ok for them to try it and it really isn't. It's the sort of drug which can ruin your life after only giving it a try that one time. It's also far, far too easy to overdose on it and do yourself serious harm or even die. Then of course there are other drugs which carry a higher risk of outright killing you. Ecstasy, for example, is simply incompatible with some people who take it and results in instant cardiac arrest. You think that should be legal? :?

Most heroin overdoses are caused by the illegal drug market. Let's say that I am a typical heroin user. I buy a product that is usually 40-60% heroin and the rest is filler or whatever it's cut with. I get used to taking a certain dose of this heroin in order to achieve a certain effect. Now let's say I am at party, and a guy there has some heroin. His product is much better than what I am used to and is 95% actual heroin. I cannot possibly know this, as street heroin doesn't come with a nutritional facts label. I shoot up my usual dose and I die because I took much more than I intended. Decriminalizing and regulating heroin sales would solve this problem.

Also, do you really think someone should be arrested for shooting up? Do you think they belong in jail, alongside murderers and rapists, because they use a substance that feels damn good? I'm not saying heroin isn't dangerous and addictive, but if you ask me, turning users into criminals doesn't help them. A rehab center would probably do them far more good than a prison cell.

Finally, mdma (ecstasy) is one of the safest drugs out there when used in moderation. I've honestly never heard of what you mentioned, but even if it were the case, wouldn't it be easier to know if you had that predisposition if you could speak openly and honestly with doctors about it, or maybe even have them run a controlled test dosage to gauge your reaction?

after browsing for a bit this is what I came across.. [QUOTE="Fuzzy_Bear123"] [QUOTE="kidsmelly"]

Can we just legalize weed now this is just getting stupid.

EMOEVOLUTION

Yeah, we need to legalize this stuff already...

I'm not convinced legalizing drug use would make the world a better place. Or save anybody money.

People who use drugs have a little care or thought of other people.. social problems would still exist.. physical violence, public intoxications, disorderly conduct, all of these things would go hand in hand with allowing people legal access to drugs. The crime rate in the United States would stay relatively the same. You'd still be paying the same amount of taxes. The drug cartel wouldn't go any where because they'd be able to produce a tax free product. Where as approved drug companies would have to pay numerous taxes to the government.. and the consumer themselves would have to pay taxes apon purchase.

So, yeah.. it's a nice idea to say.. lets just legalize drug use.. it'll solve the problem. Well, not really. It'll just make new ones.

It's not that I want lower taxes, I just want the money to be spent elsewhere (for example scientific research). Also we have other drugs that are perfectly legal, why aren't those illegal as well? Why should someone else decide what I can and can't put in my body, as long as I'm not harming others? Also I'm sure the majority of people would get their drugs from a legal source if they could simply because the product will be better (there won't be any crazy ingredients that many drug cartels use to dilute the actual drug).

Um, most of the war on drugs is not centered around weed. You want to legalize heroin and cocaine?

sonicare
Yes, yes I do (I never mentioned anything about marijuana in my original post, I said "Drugs" meaning ALL of them).

[QUOTE="needled24-7"]

if you don't already worry about people driving high, then you better start now. tons of people do it, and while i don't think it is a good idea, it's nowhere near the same as driving while drunk. honestly, you probably wouldn't even know if someone was driving high.

airshocker

I'm a cop. It's not hard to tell if someone is driving under the influence.

But either way, that's what blood tests are for if I can't be 100% sure.

And it's the exact same as driving drunk. Your motor skills are just as bad.

You are a really really misguided cop...thats very far from the truth driving high is nowhere near driving drunk. Shame people like are the ones with the power :(
