The US war machine as a whole has got to be rated as one of the best in the world simply because of their ability to use shock and awe tactics on the battlefield.

It is wrong to think they are the best trained forcesin the world , if you compare the basic training for US Marines compared to Royal Marines -

US - 12 weeks basic training

Royal - 32 weeks basic training

NicktehImperial

Now that depends....what is included in the 32 weeks training. Our training is broken into segments.

US MArines go through 12 week basic, then MCI, then ACI.

The Royal Marines dude.....not US. I know that.

I'm going with the US on this one. Having the best Navy and Air Force really helps the ground troops, without them the Army and Marines would be average.

Gee, that's a cute little ad hominem you've got there.

What do you think the Russians are stupid. There are so many nukes hidden in siberia that the retaliation would turn all of the US into complete wasteland.

Proof of this?

Remember Russia has been around for far longer than the US,

This means absolutely nothing.

and has always been a powerful country, and a major power of europe.

I'm sure RussianCzar Nicholas II would piss himself laughing if he heard that.

When was russia not a major world power?

Pretty much throughout the entire Impieral Age and much of the pre Soviet Industrial Age. During which time it maintained a largely feudal society and was able to project about ZERO of its power.

Didn't the collapse of the Mongol empire leave all that land to the Russians?

Pretty much. After the Mongols took a big leap down the staircase, all that the Slavs had to do was kick them until they were dead. They were already crippled and barely alive. To say that the Slavic military is superior merely because of age is absurd. The German Empire was much younger than Czarist Russia during WW1, yet that didn't stop them from giving the Russian Empire a proverbial ass raping despite being engaged in a two front war.

Ass-raping wow, you need to go to history class.

They did, but check up on 1917 sometime. Russia withdrew from the war as a result of unsustainable casualties. This produced an ideal situation for Germany, until the US enteredthe war. Which tilted the scale back into Allied favor.

right now

So having just as many nukes as the US =/= world power.........OK.

yes

Russia is a major world power right now. Saying otherwise is just silly. It is one of the few countries to posses nukes, it is also one of the 5 permanant members of the security council and there are a whole heap of natural resources in Russia.

The light is starting to come to me and I'm thinking that if we got in a war with China( assuming it was like pre-iraq when we could support a fresh war), we would loose because of their sheer numbers ASSUMING that it was a war on their land.

I'm talking on the infantry front though. I know for a fact that our airforce would be unparalleled. My dad said on the news a couple days ago, US and Israel did an airstrike over Kuwait and took out their AA system which was supposed to be the best in the world and we didn't loose a single jet. Thats pretty good...

NicktehImperial

In my personel opinion. China would lose, because it would just be more soldiers for our guys to kill.

In fact, it would almost be like the perfect war for the US and its allies....

um we really dont have allies...we have people that use us for our **** if we where in trouble they wouldnt help us....

 Way to take Bismarck out of context, douche. He was implying the dangers of a TWO FRONT WAR. World War 1 was such an unmitigated disaster for Russia that it actually led to the collapse of the Czarist government. Which Lenin was all too pleased to take advantage of.

What's ironic is that it didn't evenwork from the outset. Lenin's application of communism went so horribly afoul he actually had to inject capalistic ideals to keep Russia from tearing itself apart completely. Hence "war communism". Which was basically Lenin's nickname for "temporary capitalism".

Well, my grandfather and uncle told me that Russian communism was never real communism.

He was right. The Soviet Union was authoritarian socialism.

[QUOTE="muscleserge"] So that is why Bismark was so afraid of Russian involvement in WW1.CaptHawkeye

 Way to take Bismarck out of context, douche. He was implying the dangers of a TWO FRONT WAR. World War 1 was such an unmitigated disaster for Russia that it actually led to the collapse of the Czarist government. Which Lenin was all too pleased to take advantage of.

If I remember correctly Russia mobilized very fast in about 2 weeks, and was pretty effective until the internal conflicts started getting out of hand.

Islamic extremism has moderately well funded and very motivated fighting force, unfortunately their training is sub-par, as almost the entire force is made up of reserves. Their weapons development team is very resourceful, but it's decentralized so not as efficient as it could be.

YES, obviously, although they are considered real Marines out of basic, but tey go through those two other schools afterwords BEFORE they can actually serve.

DivergeUnify

You're serving once you're enlisted dude....

Then can you answer my question? Do you have to do both of them before you're a Marine, or can you just do basic, and then serve?

I was never a Marine... I was Army. But the military services are set up similiar. You go to basic and then AIT to learn your MOS.

AIT= Advanced individual Training and MOS = Military Occupational Skill. That is required before you are sent to your duty station since that is your actual job in the service. The MOS varies as to length of time in training.

Russia withdrew its troops mainly due to the internal conflict with the reds, muscleserge

Which would have never happened had Czarist Russia been able to handle the war. Remember that Lenin took advantage of the anger in the Russian populace generated by the extreme casualties being suffered at the front.

and some economical reasons obviously.

And what do you think CAUSED those economic problems exactly?

Boo god damn hoo. Unlike your post above, I actually presented an AGRUMENT with my post.

Oh, and by the way. Rejecting an argument because you don't like how it was worded is a cop out. Known as "style over substance". Your little "history class" tirade, was an ad hominem. So don't bother confusing the two.

the War only aided the Red revolution, but it was going to happen anyway, also the absence of the Czar from the throne due to him being at the eastern front most of the time also aided alot in the revolution. . The economic problems had roots long before the war.

Which did absolutely nothing to stop the Germans from going ballistic on them. And Russia's internal conflicts were WORSENED by absurdly high Russian casualties vs. German deaths at the front.

Going into internal political strife in Czarist Russia is a red herring. In the end, Czarist Russia threw as much weight as it could at Germany, and was still defeated by an oppenent who was already splitting his forces badly. If Russia was as strong as you claim it was, Lenin would never has asked for a cease fire from the Germans in 1917. Nor would he had GIVEN them land to get them off his back.

Russians always rely'd on their vast numbers, as individuals they are weak.

so all American soldiers are "Rambos", Russia took that many casualties because in the beginning of the war The USSR couldn't supply all of its soldiers fully. If you read the statistics casualties went down after the industry cought up.
