**EDIT: Assume the intruder has a pistol.**
Just curious. This is mine:

I'll never own a gun unless I move to an area that doesn't have a non-existent crime rate. I'll probably have a baseball bat around for playing baseball, though. Or I'll sneak into the kitchen and grab a big carving knife.Luncbox1Yeah.....agreed 100%

You do know that guns don't go walking by themselves and shoot people right?I'd feel a lot less safe with a gun in my house, personally. I have the odd cricket bat though.

I'm going to 3rd this.
And that last option is pretty ridiculous.
I think everyone on gs knows you own that. I have lost count how many times you have posted it.
So what? The guy got a new gun, maybe his first and wants to share it. If mods feel that he's been posting it as much as you say he has, then they'll mod his posts
Good luck killing people you monster.
You say that like he's going to go out and look for people to kill.
And "prefering safety of criminals over your own ?"
I'll agree that, that's a stupid option
If criminals didnt have guns because of these laws i wouldnt have to worry.
You say that like they wouldn't have guns if we outlawed them.

[QUOTE="UnrighteousFury"]that last option is pretty ridiculous.luamhtrad
How would you make it non-ridiculous?
Eh, how about "Whatever I can find."
Three cops have been shot in my community in the last 4 years. Just last month, some man broke into an elderly couples house, tied them up, beat them, and then burnt their house down while they were in it.
I think a pistol-grip mossberg securtiy shotgun is in order folks.

A preference of a home defense weapon infers premeditation. "Whatever I can find" is a last minute, "Oh ****" reaction. Hardly the same thing. The pacifist choice is my attempt at being politically correct on the world stage.

Generalizations have never been politically correct.

But do you know what the murder rate is in my city? Nonexistent. if I was living in New York I might consider a gun... but not in Surburban Calgary.

Tell that to the politicians... :|
Wait, why has this thread turned into a topic for Political Correctness? We all know being politically correct sucks...

Ah, I was under the impression that political correctness was the practice of saying statements so vague and unassuming that no one could possibly be offended by them, and not making statements containing such sweeping generalizations that people are bound to be offended by them.
Two dogs and a 410 gage shotgun. The dogs will let me know they are in the house and the 410 won't penetrate two layers of sheetrock but is absolutely lethal at the distances found within a house.
A couple of thoughts for you "guns are bad" folks:
Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than any of my guns.
Call a cop and call a pizza and see who shows up first. The intruders will have time to enjoy the pizza before the cops show up.
I mean no disrespect to the police, but in the U.S.A. the police are a reactionary force that shows up to clean up the mess and gather the evidence. The supreme court has ruled that no citizen can sue the police in this country for failing to protect them.

Oh well, I guess I failed then... 8)

I don't live in a high crime area either, but that doesn't mean crime can't be perpetrated here. Same for you.
If I had to pick a home defense weapon out of the weapons our family owns. I would pick my PS90, fairly small and easy to handle, and the bullet would not overpenetrate. My M1 Garand is too large and the bullet is too big, and while my FS2000 is fairly small, and easy to carry, the bullet is too powerful and would probably have overpenetration.
So the PS90 is the better home defense weapon (it is a "Personal Defense Weapon" anyways)
I own a shotgun, but my first line of defense is my canine brigade. Three dogs will do more to keep people out of your home than any firearm.sieg6529
QFT. I have four dogs. All of them are 60lbs. or bigger and they all bark as if human flesh is their favorite food. If that is not enough deterrant to a would be invader, I have an arsenal I will hand over one round at a time. ;)
Shotgun for shock value, you here the distinctive noise of a shell being chambered and it makes you **** your pants. I have a collection of swords too (not replicas, used for MA and the like) but seriously it would take a lot of energy to do the kind of damage a shotgun does.

I have no doubt dogs help, people are just afraid of them, but in my experience in piratical terms most dogs are easily scared / distracted. Please Log In to post.
