Wow, nice shotty, TC. Here are some of my weapons of choice. Probably not an assault rifle because of my neighbor's safety but still fun to look at.

Pistols are the best for home defense. If, for whatever reason, I couldn't find my pistol, I'd use a shotgun. A golf club would be the best melee weapon.

Flyswatters. Keeps those pesky burglars out of my house. :P I have a bat too. Also, I use a bowling pin, no joke. I have used it a few times when I thought someone was in my house.

All of them and more. :D

I'd prefer a shotgun though for basic home defense. I shoot trap and sporting clays from time to time, so I have some experience and I find shotguns very comfortable.

Yeah.....agreed 100%

The saying, 'I'd rather be caught with it, than be caught without it' comes to mind.

or the saying "rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it." but seriously a Shotgun... the sound alone of the pump would for most cases be enough to scare away a common criminal, and if that dosent scare him away a .12 gage buckshot to the face will :D

I have a rather large knife my grandfather once owned... He got it in Mexico and it's old. The blade is worn but near the tip is still pretty sharp. I have it stuffed between my mattress.

A tactical shotgun, or a handgun with hollow-point rounds. Anything else would be endangering the neighbors because of bullet penetration.

It's still high powered and much much higher velocity. Besides, I'd want knock down power in this instance, and a .223 or something similar doesn't have that. A hunting round does such as .308, but that's impractical. You want something fast to aim, and short enough so you don't get hung up on corners. Shotgun is the obvoius choice because you don't have to be a good shot.

Assualt rifles are too powerful and will almost defenitely overpenetrate causing damage to your property and that of others. Shotguns are nice for the intimidation, but damn, can you imagine having to clean up the mess afterward? New carpets, new ferniture, a repaint on the walls, it would almost be more convenient to just let SOB rob you. The solution: Rifle + pistol = MP5 = win. with some 9MM hollow points, overpenetration isn't a problem. To all those saying a knife or bat, we're assuming this person is armed...

I'm not talking about whats better to use here. I'm just pointing out that saying bullet penetration from 'anything else' can endanger neighbors is just ignorant. And you apparently used, must less seen, home defense ammo for a rifle. Also considering a .223 hollow jacket will be more than enough to 'knock down' any would be robber. And obviously I'm not talking about hunting rifles.

I have a shot gun that I keep lying around. It doesn't actually work, but it makes the scariest "ka-chink" noise when you use the pump action. If I really needed a gun I would probably grab a shot gun out of my gun safe. The only problem with that is that it takes me about 30 seconds to get the key and get a gun out of the safe and loaded, All else fails I keep a knife in my bed stand.

A .223 isn't heavy enough to literally knock a person on his ass, and that's what I'd want, so then he wouldn't be able to take a shot at me after I shot him.

And what's more, a higher caliber round from something like an AK (.308 I believe) even if it didn't hit on the first couple shots, that amount of noise in a small space would make some crackhead trying rob/kill you **** himself.

I'm assuming this guy is competent. :P AK is 7.62x39, same size as .308, but less gunpowder.

There you go going off tangent again. Seems like very post you make, it starts a different debate on a different day. FYI .45 ACP is no where near a standard as pistol calibers. So that argument is moot Maybe if in your original post you said "a .45 hangun" or something along those lines then you would have some validity. But you simply said "a handgun with hollow-point rounds"

Handgun implies a lot. .357 MAG, .45 MAG, .45 ACP, .454 Casull (sp?), etc...

I'm not debating anything, in the very beginning I was just stating some other reasons I wouldn't want a rifle, not necessarily directed at you in a debating form. After that I was just ignoring your personal attack on me, and bringing up a different points in your various other posts.

Yes, handgun does imply a lot. Thats why your "Ever seen a .45 ACP?" statement isn't valid. I don't see where you're getting at. And you are "trying" to actively engage in this debate, but you go off tangent every time. I'm trying to stay on topic, but then you feel the need to bring up unrelated points. Read the posts, you can see how your posts have little to nothing to do with the debate at hand.

The pile of dead girl scouts, pizza delivery boys, exterminators, and salesmen are a good deterrent for criminals thinking of robbing me.

Epic last poll answer. Anyways, a shotgun would off course be the most effective and badass. Still, I'd rather not kill the intruder. How about a taser gun?
