[QUOTE="iHarlequin"]God is a jerk. The bible makes a point of showing you that, without remorse. If he were that good, would he:
- ask someone to kill their own son to prove their faith.
- ask their own son to die on a cross.
- ask people to believe in you, but provide no proof. If you don't believe in him, you'll burn eternally in the flames of hell.
Whether god exists or not isn't up to me to say, but if the Bible's of any credibility, he's one of the greatest douchebags to have roamed the heavens.

1. Loving anything more than God is idolatry. Many families have experienced problems when they began to put their children on pedestals, burdening them with unrealistic expectations and preconceptions. The point behind it is, get your priorities straight. When you put God first, God will take care of the rest. 2. The Son chose to willingly suffer and die. It was not an easy decision, but it was a decision that had to be made. 3. Is it faith if you have proof? Have you ever read the Bible objectively? What do you think of love? What do you think of justice? You misunderstood me. I never said I don't believe in God, and I certainly never said my culture and customs aren't defined by Christianity (Catholicism, specifically). My moral compass is guided by what is considered good and bad in Christian texts and teachings. I was raised a Catholic, even if my parents are Agnostic, and it shows. Of that I have no doubt. And don't kid yourself: the bible isn't proof. We're not sure how much has been lost in translations, what changes the Church might have done to the text, and if what was written actually happened. Saying the Bible proves anything is the same as saying that the Poetic Edda verifies the existance of Valhalla (a religion much cooler than Christian ones, btw).
A sadistic God doesn't take on human nature :)

Human nature is sadistic. Hrm, maybe not nature, but how it's conditioned in society. We enjoy pranks, making fun of people, we laugh when someone falls, and we enjoy watching unrelated (and sometimes related) people getting physically harmed. Mankind made god in her image (or the opposite, if you're a believer).
