Can you really compare the two? Two COMPLETELY different genres of music. I could see someone comparing subgenres within a genre, or comparing different kinds of metal I suppose.
what is better..neither.. their are good rap songs their are good metal songs...their are terrible rap songs their are terrible metal songs... i listen to whatever pleases my ears
Rap. I'd say about 10% of rap is good, 40% mediocre, and the rest isn't tolerable.
I can only listen to about 20% of metal out there, without getting a headache.
Fave rap: Jay-Z, Celly Cell, Spice 1, Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest, Roots, The Game, Big L, Ice Cube, Scarface, RD 59, Snoop, Q-Tip, Jadakiss, Nas, and Notorious B.I.G.
Fave metal: Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Meshuggah, Iron Madain, Children of Bodom, System of a Down, Mudvayne
i prefer metal because more instrments are needed to make the sound you want.
I dont understand your reasoning. Care to elaborate?Maybe he means actual musical talent is required to play metal, as opposed to cRAP.Metal. But not Thrash. I don't like Thrash.
But yeah, I prefer Metal because rap to my ear is too simple. I prefer the technicality, the composition, the atmosphere (through bands like Agalloch and Primordial) and the vocalists (Roy Khan and Hansi Kursch are amazing).

I dont understand your reasoning. Care to elaborate?Maybe he means actual musical talent is required to play metal, as opposed to cRAP. Yeah, cos rap takes no talent at all. /sarcasm off Big L? BTNH? Wu-Tang Clan 36th chambers, The W or Wu-Tang Forever album? Or Jay-Z for that matter? Or Lupe Fiasco? There is a plethora of talented rap artists out there who have made great songs, why must people talk out of their asses when it comes to music? -_-There is different kinds of genres within these 2. European Metal is completely different than western metal 80's metal. The new bling bling rap is different than the old 80's rap.
Metal is my answer though.
Well I love rap and Im pretty sure I don't like anything belonging to the general definition of metal on OT. If I listen to metal it's something the White Zombie, The Sword or Atomic **** Which are all far cries from the band I usually see in metal band threads. Well actually Fall of Troy is pretty good. They have some really cool time changes, but not to the point that they're doing them just to make the music complicated. Plus dude can sing well when he's not screaming.

I would rather the one that remotely resembles poetry instead of the noise.
so rap it is =)

You're calling out his ignorance and not the ignornace of the people saying rap takes no talent?
I was going to call that on enterawesome but then I read randizzle's comment which of course, from where I stand, is worse.Yeah, cos rap takes no talent at all. /sarcasm off Big L? BTNH? Love Wu Tang. I dunno why so many people relize how much "music" is actually in these songs. It would take a full band to play a lot that stuff live. Like you said with Jay-Z...not only does he spit some of the finest poetry but theres a hell of a lot more than just a beat playin behind him.
There are plenty of groups out there that could out play these metal bands.

This doesn't sound like poetry?
I'm not saying it dosen't take talent (if that's why you're calling me ignorant) I'm just saying I prefer a good improvised free$tyl3(not that commercial nonsense btw) over someone who can scream, or play guitar, or play drums. I think it's clever.
oh yeah, that misspelled word was nesscary, it censored it for some reason :|

Ok, fair enough. The way it was written I thought you implied that all metal is noise, which is an entirely false stereotype if you take bands like Agalloch, Orphaned Land and Blind Guardian into consideration.the worst rap > the best metalplanetshhh
O rilly? (skip ahead to around 45 if you want to skip the introduction)
Srsly?
Oh, come on...
Do you take that back yet?
How about now?
Tell me if you need more ;).
Metal. More variety and instrumental skill.
Not that I hate all rap, just the mainstream stuff is such a bad representation of the genre. It's horrible, and pressing five or ten keys in a studio (like many of the mainstream artists do) and then looping them is hardly what I'd call talent. The underground stuff and the older material in the genre actually had some thought behind it, so it was acceptable in my opinion.
