The best is definately the World Cup, but you say in my opinion, and my favorite is the Stanley Cup! :)

Stanley Cup is for NHL (hockey)
and the World Series is for the MLB (American Baseball league)

It isn't meant to be taken in a literal way.
Even if you don't like soccer, you have to admit its the World Cup, mainly because its a global sporting event seen by billions of people. It unites many different cultures and nations. And not to mention it lasts over a month.
I really don't think it is (unless we are talking about the biggest...but we are talking about the best). 1. Any sporting event that prefers to get things wrong (instead of embracing technology) cannot be the best...see soccer and baseball 2. It brings out the worst in peopleEven if you don't like soccer, you have to admit its the World Cup, mainly because its a global sporting event seen by billions of people. Well, the topic is not about what sport is best, but about what sporting EVENT is best. As an event, the World Cup is by far the best. You can't dispute that.

I just did.
Can't be the best when there is rampant missed calls, cheating/bending of rules, disgraceful activity, and poor TV presentation
-see all the bad calls that are easily correctable with a quick replay system for goals
-all the flopping that ruins the game (fluidity)
-france's behavior...you would never see an NFL team act that way
Soccer COULD be the best, but they refuse to adapt.
The NFL does everything it can to stay current

I have to agree that the last world cup was a shower of **** - worst I've seen for many a year. Shame really, as there's been some amazing ones over the years. Too much diving, bad refereeing, and the fact the club game is just becoming too big these days and players aren't even bothered about representing their country as much.
I will however instead go for the Champions League in soccer as the greatest sporting event (after the Olympics)

I have never watched Champion's League...so I can't comment. But it just amazes me when a game refuses to use available technology to make its game better or refuses to adapt the rules to make it better. All those missed calls made me not even want to watch the US (felt like we got ****ed every match) All that flopping was sooo annoying and rewards bad players...I hate it in basketball as wellFamily murdered the dad this year b/c wanted to watch the world cup...or changed the channel...something like that Riots: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/id/5282826/ce/us/riot-police-clash-protesters-durban-south-africa-germany-australia-match&cc=5901?ver=us[QUOTE="rawsavon"][QUOTE="hyrueprince11"]

Somethings make you upset but compel you to keep watching (like when my Cowboys play bad)
The flopping and bad calls just turned me off.

Why would I do that and waste my time :?
I am a sports nut (listen to sports all day at work, watch sports, watch sports programming)
I wanted to get into it.
But watching grown men flop like little ******* every game was just annoying...and the refs rewarding them was even worse.

EVERYTHING has to included in calling something the BEST event -those negatives I named affect one's enjoyment going to said event (imagine trying to go while a riot is going on) You could include the NFL playoffs (last over a month) and still no issuesPlease Log In to post.
