Just gotta say that Hip-Hop artists have really, really boring album covers

The ones that just have the rapper standing there looking hard are pretty boring. There are some creative ones out there though.
That said, I'd rather have a boring cover than some stupid **** like an Amon Amarth cover.

They do tend to have pretty throwaway album covers, but then again, I don't like the generally unpleasent and overly busy artwork on alot of metal album covers either.

[QUOTE="mexicangordo"] The production is one thing, I mean production now a days is usually top notch, however the creativity that was put into that album in "mainstream" context is very mind blowing. Incredible huge breath of fresh air for hiphop.

Agreed. And you can see that he tried to tap into that for Watch The Throne, but for some reason it just didn't work nearly as well. It felt way more thrown together, like there was not enough thought put into it.
Although I think Kanye is very talented musically, he is for sure a critics artist in which they usually rate his work fairly high, with that said I thought "Watch The Throne" was a pretty sloppy album. I think that people let it get a pass because his previous work was held so high. The first single for most radiofriendly albums usually foreshadows the rest of the record. "Odis" was just an overproduced, sloppy mess. I mean, I had to hear it at least 4 times just to understand anything of it and I mean that in a bad way. Like you said, the album felt very thrown together, last minute and rushed, in no way shape or form does it have the same finesse that "MBDTF" had. But then again, when you made quite possibly the best hip hop album of the decade, the guy needs a break right?Well, I'm glad the fatigue set in on a side project rather than a main Kanye album.
That being said, I don't hate Watch the Throne or anything. It's just kind of sloppy (especially alot of the lyricism), it doesn't live up to Kanye's high standards, and it doesn't come off as good on repeated listens unlike MBDTF.
My first CDs that I bought myself were Alanis Morrisett'es first CD and Joan Osbourne's CD that has the What If God Was One of Us song.
Their songs were for real and they were just right.
Nowadays today's musicians are full of crap and too manygarage bands like My Chemical Romance and other crap that's on the radio stations

You should check out Prince's version of One of Us. It's pretty awesome. I actually prefer it to the original.

I don't really know what to think. It was very funky as it should be, it is Prince after all. It's interesting though. I'll have let my mom listen to it, she loves Prince.

I bet she'll like it alot. The slightly funky flavorings is what makes me like it more than the original, which seems a little bland in comparison.
Yeah, definitely.Just gotta say that Hip-Hop artists have really, really boring album covers

Honestly? I have to say "Hot Fuss" by The Killers. It was the first album I ever owned (I was like 11 or so), and it got me into all the other bands I like today. so I have to swear by it. -and every song sounds like a hit single, tell me Im wrong.
close second is "Is this it?" By The Strokes. I would never be able to write a song if it wasn't for that record. The songs are so minimalistic, but so good. It is such a good lesson in writing. (Last niteeeee, she saidddddddd)

Oh really?
I think those are pretty awesome.
post the 36 chambers and liquid swords covers, theyre awesomeThere are many more albums I own but I need to listen to more of such as Arcade Fire-Neon Bible, The National- High Violet, Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III and IV, and Eminem- Relapse: Refill edition. If I owned the other Eminem albums, I'm sure they'd be on the list as well.
Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd followed closely by Crime of the Century by Supertramp and Untitled by Led Zeppelin.

Fair enough then. You enjoy itEL-P - Fantastic Damage
there is NOTHING out there that sounds like this. the pure brilliance and originality of this record is truly mind blowing. as a producer, el-p is light years ahead of anyone else in hip hop (and i mean ANYONE). as an MC, he weaves you through a post apocalyptic world where nothing is right, everything is fractured, yet everything makes sense and beyond all the dirt and grime is pure beauty and even a little hope. el-p is one of those artists who won't get his proper recognition until years after he quits the rap game, he's very much ahead of his time.
i advise anyone who has a place in their hearts for true hip hop to give this f*cking record a chance. don't just listen to it once, give it a couple listens before you form an opinion on it. it's an acquired taste, but with some patience and an open mind, i can promise you it will be a record you'll never forget.
wait a minute!!! did i just see grey seal list madonna's ray of light as his favorite album?!? wow.....uh, i was not expecting that. interesting choice to say the least...
