tool's aenema because it marked the beginning of the abstract sound of the band, but maynard still carried a perfect amount of the aggression he had in the previous 2 records. each song on that album is written well and i wouldn't mind getting any of them stuck in my head.yellosnolvr
Great, great choice.

EL-P - Fantastic Damage

there is NOTHING out there that sounds like this. the pure brilliance and originality of this record is truly mind blowing. as a producer, el-p is light years ahead of anyone else in hip hop (and i mean ANYONE). as an MC, he weaves you through a post apocalyptic world where nothing is right, everything is fractured, yet everything makes sense and beyond all the dirt and grime is pure beauty and even a little hope. el-p is one of those artists who won't get his proper recognition until years after he quits the rap game, he's very much ahead of his time.

i advise anyone who has a place in their hearts for true hip hop to give this f*cking record a chance. don't just listen to it once, give it a couple listens before you form an opinion on it. it's an acquired taste, but with some patience and an open mind, i can promise you it will be a record you'll never forget.

lazerface216

Sounds very interesting. Can I listen to the album on YouTube?

Tool's Aenema still holds up as my most favorite album because everything in that album works. Keenan's vocals are ferocious yet soulful and mellow, usually in the same song. Carey's drumming is top-notch, Jones' guitar technique is simple yet melodic and trippy at times, and Chancellor's bass playing is beyond hearable. Mix all that along with Keenan's lyrics and thats practically the reason why I still consider this album my favorite album. Even though I'm not as huge a Tool fan as I used to be, the fact this album still holds up for me really says a lot..

I'm not really good with explaining why I like the music I do, but I guess I love this album so much because it's all so powerful and full of energy while maintaining some sweet as sh!t grooves that sound entirely their own so many of the songs give me goosebumps and make me fell like I need to do... something honorable mentions go to Celtic Frost's Monotheist and Sigh's Gallows Gallery

what............ you cant be serious

Yep I am. I like the album.

i seriously have to question how much albums youve listened to if Recovery is your favourite, cant be more than 20

Recovery is a mediocre album filled with generic beats, bland hooks, corny lyrics and excessive shouting, the album has some of the least variety of anything ive heard, take away the hooks and i cant even tell which track is which, they all sound the same, same flow, same type of lyrics, same beats. its just so ironic how early in Ems career he was taking shots of pop artists for being generic but now he completely sold out and made the most generic pop rap album ive ever heard

i also find it hilarious how often he screams that hes off drugs and hes "back" lmao taking as if Recovery isnt by far his worst album

Vader's "Impressions In Blood" and Nile's "Annihilation of the Wicked" are pretty high up there for me right now. And Suffocation's self-titled album is pretty good too. Nothing has matched the feeling that "The Blackening" churns up inside me.

Have you heard Ithyphallic by Nile? The drum work in The Essential salts is incredible The Blackening is a great album although Burn My Eyes is my favorite MH album.

Loved Ithyphallic too. But vocal work on Annihilation just blew me away. I've gone through a ton of death metal studio discographies recently. Necrophagist, Nile, Suffocation, Vader and am currently working on Cannibal Corpse (though, I'm slipping a little and going back to Vader a lot, lol). Next on the list is Deicide and perhaps some Venom (their compilation discography is bigger than most's studio >_>). And I need to give Slayer another go (tried them before getting into Sepultura way back in the summer, but it didn't click). Also, a friend keeps telling me to try In Flames. So I've got a lot of listening to do...
