Oh I'm not trying to justify anything. Nor do I need to justify a goddamned thing to you.

worlock77

Yeah, I know, you're trying to justify it to yourself. But honestly, I suggest you quit your habit, if not for yourself for your loved ones. And don't seem like I'm just singling you out. We all have flaws, there are tons of things I could do to improve myself as well.

Hardly. I enjoy it. That's all the justification I need.

Suggestion received, and disregarded.

You enjoy it because it suppresses your nicotine addiction. And because you disregarded my suggestion, have fun making all your loved ones sad as f**k after your short death. I'm sure your mom/dad/girlfriend/wife/brother/sister/friends/co-workers would love to see you get cancer and die early.

Ehh, doubtful that my parents will be around by then. My wife and I already have a plain to check out at a certain point anyway. My sister holds no water with me. My brother does not exist. And friends and co-workers have their own worries.

I don't smoke that often. I think i'm fine. And for the record, i don't find second hand smoke nearly as deadly as commercials would lead you to believe.

I promised myself that if when I start smoking, that I'd only do 1 or 2 cigarettes a day. I don't see the reason to smoke all the time. Also I wouldn't smoke in my own house. :)

Ever been through chemotherapy? Better to not smoke and have one less thing to worry about causing cancer and having to go through it.

You'll die if you smoke.

You'll die if you don't.

I don't see a problem, so why is there one?

people don't like smelling it.

also, some non-smokers like to act like they're better than you because they don't smoke. or they act like it's some achievement that they've never smoked a cigarette. it's one of the few situations where i've seen people brag about doing nothing.

While smoking does look cool in its way.

You will smell bad, have yellow fingers, bad looking teeth, breathing problems and many more.

And second hand smoke is just as bad.:(

Honestly if you actually ask that question, that probably means you're not bright enough to figure it out on your own, and that probably means you're stubborn in those wrong views.

Well sure, but smoking often has a question of willpower (you should've stopped smoking around x, y and z), whereas diseases initiated by microbiology and virology do not.

edit: don't get me wrong, your question was appropriate and valid

Two problems - if unregulated, it affects people who do not wish to partake in it, and secondly, it is a drain on human resources, because it usually kills or incapacitates people earlier with diseases which are extremely difficult to treat.

You will die earlier, develop COPD, most likely lung cancer, emphysema, among many other problems. You smell bad, you piss people off on the road when they breath in your 2nd hand smoke. You also spend thousands of dollars on cigarettes. You may not live long enough to see your grandchildren and if you do, your lungs may be too impaired to play with them. Of course everyone dies, but HOW you die, and the quality of your life DO matter.

Because I have to smell you when you walk past.

An old guy was smoking on the bus yesterday; I nearly puked.

Well aren't you a delicate one.

Perhaps you should stay at home, instead of going out into the hazardous, hazardous streets.

Honestly if you want cancers and emphysema then go ahead. But smoking affects other people around you. 2nd hand smoke is just as bad as 1st hand smoke. And now some scientist are finding 3rd hand smoke (being around someone who lives with a smoke or being in a room where smoking has occurred) is harmful to babies and toddlers. Because of the odor and residue in carpets, clothes and objects still have cigarette fumes in them. I use have a student who's father was a smoker. As soon as would open her bag cigarette smell would come out strong. And when i marked her books i didn't even have to see whos name it was because it smelled of cigarettes and i knew it was her book. Seriously just stop smoking. Cigarettes is worse than weed and alcohol. I think in the next 50 years we may see a ban on cigarettes.

You die earlier.

Kcinz

You could always die tragically from something else. Maybe even before the lung cancer hits.

Yeah but it's all about probabilities. Smoking greatly increases the likelyhood of dying much earlier. Of course you can smoke and live to be 100 years old but more often than not you'll die earlier. The probably of dying in an accident is there and more or less the same to everyone, why increase it with smoking?

This may not mean much if you're 15 (and dumb as a brick) but later on in life it starts to matter.

I don't really see smoking any different than eating lots of fast food. But I think people who smoke in places like in front of an entrance of in an air condition room with other people(unless they are okay with it) should go jump down a cliff though.

That's not what you asked. This is what you asked. "You'll die if you smoke. You'll die if you don't. I don't see a problem, so why is there one?" I don't care if other people smoke. I look at smokers as stupid people and I am ok with them smoking because it helps with natural selection and helps weed out the idiots over time. I do NOT however believe the government or employers should have to cover their health cost. If somebody is stupid enough to smoke, then they should ALWAYS have to provide their own medical coverage. Same goes for fat people that eat too much unhealthy foods.

Except loads of smokers are far from stupid. It's an addiction, a bad habit, just like any other. It doesn't define one's mental condition, or level of knowledge and intelligence.

Can't judge a person by one habit. You never know what they went through in life, nor why they started smoking, hence you can't judge them.

Gee that's a bit extreme. Do you feel the same way about people who stay too much time under the sun, who drink too much, who work too much, who don't do exercise, and many other conditions that can lead to health issues?

stay under the sun and drink too much, yes I feel the same way. Work too much, how much is too much? Besides less of a social life, I don't see anything else happening. And if the person is fat and refuses to exercise, then yes I feel the same way about them as well. Extreme...no, just realistic. Expecting to government and/or employers to cover the health cost of health issues that were cause by stupid decisions from the person with the health issue/s is extreme and unrealistic.

Can't judge a person by one habit. You never know what they went through in life, nor why they started smoking, hence you can't judge them.

Funny, I have just done what you said can't be done. So clearly it CAN be done.

[QUOTE="AmazonTreeBoa"] That's not what you asked. Same goes for fat people that eat too much unhealthy foods.AmazonTreeBoa

Expecting to government and/or employers to cover the health cost of health issues that were cause by stupid decisions from the person with the health issue/s is extreme and unrealistic.

if the government can bail out the banks because of stupid business practices, why can't they bail me out for stupid health decisions?

I stick with my sense of common sense wisdom:

If it's bad for you, don't do it.

Granted, I can't say that I've been 100% with this model in the past but I do try to do this as much as I can.

Sorry I know my rant isn't what the topic at hand cares about but I thought it interesting enough to point out. At 9:00 a.m. this morning I pulled up to my local target where there was zero trash laying around (it looks nice and clean..except) that from were I parked about 30 feet from the door to the actual door I counted 26 cigarette butts...26 no lie, I swear on my life. Posting just because I wanted to add numbers to my rant about how inconsiderate smoking can make a person I guess. So yeah, it's not healthy and you're cancer will probably raise my premiums but I can't put a number to that, your being a douche and throwing your toxic trash on the ground like you own the place however I can quantify. Thanks and I'll stop posting now as I'm the only one who cares about this :)

You smokers would hate my house. Not only is there no smoking in my house. I won't even allow it on my property. That's right, I don't even allow smokers to step outside to smoke. They want to smoke, they have to leave. Used to have idiots leaving their nasty ass butts in my yard all the time. I feel no sympathy towards smokers because they feel no sympathy towards us non smokers. If they had it their way, they would still be allowed to smoke in public buildings and screw the health of the non smoker that was smart enough to either never start or smart enough to give up such a stupid habit. Smokers are so disrespectful that why will walk in your house smoking without even asking if it is okay or they will light up in your house without asking. Just had an asshats light up in my house the other day and and i cursed him out as I kicked him out my house.

Two wrongs do not make a right. It makes two wrongs. In your eyes it is ok for the government to cover your cost because they bailed banks out. In my eyes both are wrong.
