As seen in history, pretty much all great empires fall. For example, Persian Empire, Roman Empire, etc (which did not fall just because of war but for other reasons like running out of basically money). When will it be the United States turn? Also if the US was broken up and every single state became its own country (hypothetically) which state would take control of the majority of the other states?

If we fall, we fall. So what if we aren't the greatest and strongest country in the world? Life goes on!

This. Also throwing the term "empire" (meaning controlling/ruling more than one nation) around might land you in some trouble.

Why would we crumble? EU is in much worse shape. Why can't they crumble? And since when have we been an empire? :|

If America falls the states will go into independance and we will probably fight each other over resources. It is possible that states that are close to one another would form one country. Idaho, Oregon and Washington for example would form one country, Texas and California are large and rich enough to stand on their own.

When this would happen, probably sooner then you think. We are already broke beyond fixing.

when i decide to fully assert myself and some day take over America, and then the world. dont worry though, this is a totally friendly take-over, im sure that everyone will benefit by having one world ruler. and also, everyone will speak english, and we will slowly get rid of the other languages, and make all money the same, and organize jobs by the continent, everyone has something to offer, but each place is trying to do everything, and thats the problem.

Having control over multiple nations is only one part of an empire, America I believe is among few others the closest thing we have to an empire these days.

Well we do have military bases all over the place in many many countries. But then again dont like 12 other countries own a piece of Antarctica? Thus owning land on another continent? Don't know if that really counts though..

From my knowledge yes, but it's not like we own 20 peices of land all around the world. The only places I can think of off the top of my head is Hawaii, Puerto rico, and the virgin Islands right?

There has been talks of finally making it a state but I don't see them doing it for the sole reason of having to come up with a new flag. 50 sounds better than 51.

Do they get any benefits for being a commonwealth nation? or w/e they are? For instance we can travel to the Uk in my country without needing a visa.

They get a ton of benefits as a common wealth. They are born with US citizenship, they get welfare and all sorts of other things. It's almost identical as being born in NJ with the only difference is that Spanish is taught before English.

@Pirate It's because they need 50% of the population to vote for being a state. The majority of the Island votes for becoming a state, but it's less than 50 so therefore they keep it as it is. It's funny though because the lowest % of votes go for independence yet the "Other" option basically meaning common wealth is large enough to stop it from becoming a state.

At that point they may as well be a state, but I guess they want to keep their own government (if they have one).

We might decline, but we're actually pretty safe from crumbling for a couple of reasons. We're pretty friendly with our neighbors, so there's no natural invasion route. We have a large number of natural resources, we we can't be resource starved. We have a large oil reserve in Alaska, so we can't be held at ransom with oil when push comes to shove.

But we DO owe China like 14 Trillion dollars, so we are in debt and paying for things with more borrowed money. China WILL want that money back eventually what will we do? Probably give them 14 trillion dollars worth of resources, and bam we're pretty much done. (14 trillion is a guess, all I know is that it is in the trillions)

It's a dangerous choice of words too. Nobody is really against America. There is the American way of thinking (media/educational preprogramming that happens everywhere), the American people an sich, and the American government. Usually people are either talking about the programming or the government, but i've never heard of anyone being against the people. In these kinds of topics America = usually the government. I think europe and america will crumble within about 45 years or so. I think this because the governments are going power crazy, and it appears that the tension between governments and the people will have to reach a climax before it ends.

When we let Canada get to powerful, then they'll run us off and bring in the tanks, we should really look into moving them further away from us with a lake of fire and gasoline or a electric lake wis gasoline burning under it.

A. The United States will not "crumble." We will simply decline to a position that is less important than the one we currently hold.

B. The United States is not an empire. Owning land on other continents does equate to being an empire. Yes, we have military bases around the world, but they are strategically placed. It's an unfortunate reality that rogue states do exist; somebody has to deal with them, and it's not going to be the EU, China, India, Russia or Brazil. The United States has 233 years of peaceful transitions of power, excepting the Civil War which failed anyways, and the longest-standing constitution in the world. As much as this might piss some people off, we have proven that we have the rationality and the political stability to interject our influence into important global issues. It's not like we specifically planned to be the only country that wasn't absolutely decimated after World War 2, and then become a historic superpower. It simply evolved that way as more and more recovering nations depended on us for reconstruction, political guidance, and financial stability. Seeing as how we are, and have been, the hegemonic power, we have a duty to assert ourselves when problems like nuclear proliferation and terrorist threats come into the picture and threaten our security, as well as the peaceful functionality of the global system. What do you want us to do...just unconditionally give away our power? No other country would ever do that, and neither should the United States be expected to. We are criticized when we don't try to solve problems, and we're criticized when we do try to solve problems. The 'bame America' game just doesn't cut it. It's a complete farce.

It's not about giving away power.
Also not about solving problems.
It's many seperate things that annoy people. The confusion surrounding the happenings around 9 11 for example. And the incredible amount of money wasted on the banks after the crash (without any way to check where it disappeared to). And for example forcing biometric ID onto europe, which is vastly limiting freedom.
Those things were uncalled for and unnecesary.

Who cares whether a nation has tons of power. As long as they use it wisely. That's what is being questioned.
It's not like people want america to be worse off. People are just being protective.

The United States did not force the European Union to legislate biometric identification. We may have taken a strong stance in favor of it, but we do not make policy for them, period. 9/11 was not handled in the wrong way. Iraq was handled in the wrong way. I specifically remember even Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton commending George Bush for his handling of the actual incident, and for invading Afghanistan.

What foreign aid?

C'mon. It's a little less than 1% of our budget. That's enough, right?

I think this article sums it up nicely.

But it's much more important that for ONCE people understand that it's not the americans people are pointing their sticks at. And i don't think the hate outside USA will ever be so much that it could crumble the USA. That hate is very defensive. People feel threatened and limited because of the intrusive and irrational nature of USA gov.
I would think it is way more likely to happen, if ever, by the americans themselves.

A strong stance in favor? USA decided the visitors from countries that didn't require visum, will be obliged to carry biometric ID. They gave us a deadline, originally october 2004 (later delayed to 2005).
To give an example of the implications. The biometric ID has serious conflicts with people who want to remain anonymous (NN) to the police when doing nothing wrong. Since they can, when taking You into custody for not showing ID, take Your fingerprints and picture to try identify You. This whole procedure has become meaningless because all this data has been scanned at some point. This means every citizen is now an identified/tracked potential criminal. It tore the 'innocent until proven guilty' right and the balance between the state the law and the people one bit further.
Also biometric ID's are much easier to steal info from, to locate, and to edit. Scanning devices are easily misled by copying someone elses info from a distance.
The fingerprints and face recognition are very unreliable. Germany reported about a 5% error percentage in identifying someone by fingerprint for example.

9 11 - Just an example. They have officially found nano thermite in the dust, indicating a few tons were stacked somewhere in the scrapers. It's a carefully measured combination of rust and aluminium that is used solely for exploding or smelting. It had absolutely no business in there, so the scientists say. There is no official response, they just avoid any honest concerns. This does not imply it is a conspiracy. But this kind of confusion and lack of cooperation, the unwillingness to admit that there is something wrong with their story, is causing a lot of distrust.

They gave the banks a bailout in the hope that they start lending again (remember this one? treasury spokesman: "It's not based on any particular data point, we just wanted to choose a really large number.") but where did the money ($700 billion) go? They used the money to buy other banks. Which was easy to get away with because Bush conveniently added to the bail out language: "Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency." So they did not even track it. They track Your email, but not the $700 billion rescue operation. Way to go.

They aren't thinking things through, or they have a very weird agenda that is not in our favor.

I think when all the world will die starting with china then maybe.
