now i'll admit i haven't watched ALL of his films so none is stretching it a bit. but imo his films are mostly just technical showpieces that are overblown with production values but devoid of real charm and magic. The Aviator is a prime example.... if not for Dicaprio's performance, that film has nothing.
To say Raging Bull or Goodfellas pr Mean Streets is just a technical showpiece is absurd. That can apply to some of his films, like Casino or Gangs of New York, but even those had great performances and told interesting story.well, just to clarify, I'm not saying Scorsese is a bad director. he's among the modern masters, sure, but judging from what i've watched he got way more credit than he deserves so far. Ragin Bull was great, but Goodfellas didn't cut it for me - in fact, that was the film which showed me how Scorsese is quite a middle-of-the-road filmmaker. he can tell a story, sure, show you what happened, but underneath all that there's no soul. it's almost as if he cares more about making films than what he makes, if you catch my drift.
