Seeing EU as a negative thing is just pure ignorance.

I see the EU as a way to homogenize Europe way down the road.

So...in other words, you can live off of other people and let them pay for everything. Yeah......sounds fair.

I'm sure people have their reasons, but a lot (not all) of it is based on stereotypes and misinformation. Mostly misinformation in the US. Plus, I think it's become something of a fad nowadays to be anti-American. It's just one big bandwagon, and so many people are hitchin' a ride.
When the U.S. invades, bombs, or starts a conflict with a country every 10 years, it's hard to not stereotype against the warmogering behaviour.
I will admit, America doesn't have the best track record in terms of peace, but it should be made clear that not all Americans are a certain way. We aren't ALL warmongers. Some are all about peace, some are all about war, and others (like me) are all about not giving a damn either way. I just wanna live my life. Simple as that...or is it? idk.
but that's the defining point of stereotyping, aint it :P
True, but after a certain amount of stereotyping has gone on, people start to lose sight of the line between reality and stereotypes. Pretty soon, people will actually think that the US is nothing but a bunch of warmongers, and then what? Well, idk, but I'm sure it wouldn't be good :P
what you seem to not understand is that your government is the legitim institution that has the power and was elected, in a democratic way, by the people of the said country. If your government is always making war, then it means your people are warmongers, because they elected a pro-war government and didnt do anything to stop the said war. If you dont like being called warmongers, then, next time either form your own party or vote for the least worst one, or, at least, just vote.
By that principle, it isnt stereotype anymore.
Actually, no. It is a stereotype until if becomes absolute. You are saying, basically, that it is a fact that every American Citizen is a warmongerer. How do you explain the protesters then? aren't they warmongering? What about the organizations against Nuclear weapons?
Don't generalize. Please think of what you say before you say it.
their country is a warmonger one because the country is ruled by a warmonger government. The warmonger government was democratically elected by the people. Thus, people voted for a warmonger government. Who would vote for a warmonger government? Warmonger people.
You speak like you would need every American to have voted for that government to be able to call them warmongers. Decisions made, like at election times, are made on the base of the majority. Thats what gives, for example, the government its legitimacy. If youre saying Americans arent warmongers because not ALL of them really are, then, I will say to you that only dictatorships' governmentsare legitim, because they get 100% of the votes for them.
The majority gives the legitimacy. Thus, Americans are warmongers because more than half of them proved they are, in a democratic way.
:lol:And people say Americans are ignorant.......wow.

Ok here's what I have to say about all this. First of all I am an American. now to move on with it, European Eliteism??????
What Aout AMERICAN ELITISM??????? how many AMERICANS HERE have traveled outside the country???? Have you ever had a chance to observe the way some americans act when they are overseas??? Which other country in the world, (in General) goes about acting as if we own the entire planet and everybodyelse should do as we see fit?? Which other country has influence (positive and negative) over more other countries, Which other single nation has more economic influence?? If you have been on Gamespot forums for a while you would see some (evidence?) of how ELITE/Arrogant us americans can be, I know most of you are inmature kids barely out of junior high, but alot of yo will grow up but regretfully not outgrow this position. Thats where the problem lies...
(My case, This one time I was at this hotel in the carribean and a tourist, American had drank some, not entirely drunk yet but tipsy and started getting very loud and rambunctiuos. People started to get annoyed and called on him to shut up, He gets even More agitated and yells something like IM a US citizen and we own this country or this is our backyard and I could do whatever the F**k I want, then he started messing with the chairs and throwing them around, Thats when security interviened, they tried to calm him down, but he kept on saying stupid things about being an American and he could do whatever...Anyways the Guards had enough of him, and they cracked him in the head with a nightstick arrested him And told him to call the embassy..His wife stood dumbfounded as they dragged him away then started saying that he couldnt be arrested because he was a an American, just then one of the guards told her that if she kept it up she too would be arrested. They were kicked out of the hotel....)
Now dont get me wrong there are loud and obnoxious people all over the wold EUROPEANS are no exeptions But a message to the OP when you point a finger 3 point back........

Hey! No! No!
England's problems don't stem from it's people, or even it's government (for the most part), it comes from Brussels. The EU enforces so much crap on us and it ruins our countey and culture. In the 60's we were froced to get rid of our exclusivefishing grounds in the North Sea. Now anyone can bloody well fish it. And it's running out.
The EU embargoes and boycotts countries who don't follow. Te only reason why we haven't adopted the Euro is because we arew for some reason unqiue in not having to take it up. Every other EU nation HAS to take it up.
Don't blame England or Germany, but the EU Council.

see, dear shigums? Now go back to your own discussions.
Trix, Im still waiting for you to prove me wrong. Heres an example of what I meant:
I said Americans are warmongers because they, the majority of them, elected a warmonger government in a democratic way, the said government having the right to do what pleases it, because Americans gave their trust and give that government its power by voting for him. Remember the majority thing, ok?
Now, if I ask you what USA's language is? What will you answer? English??? Maybe like 80% speak said English, but theres a lot of spanish speaking people, etc., the English language isnt absolute in USA, does that mean it isnt the first and legitim language of USA? No, because the majority speaks it.
Heres my point, if you can say Americans are caucasian and speak English because the majority do it, then why cant we say theyre warmongers when the majority is, because that said majority proved it by electing a warmonger government?
Because answering, just keep in mind that if you refute me on this, then that means French people dont speak French, nor are they caucasian, that also means chinese people dont speak mandarin, nor are they Asian, etc..

again, get your facts straight, where was I wrong? I said the exact thing the guy you defended said too, him and me are saying the same thing on that, the irony was about him thinking I sounded stupid, not the "im writing over the internet so I cant sound" thingie........
really, go flame somewhere else
Is that really considered flaming? I was just trying to make a point. But fine. This whole argument we're having is stupid.
Indeed, because youre wrong, even the guy you defended said you were wrong.
[QUOTE="Shiggums"][QUOTE="kalossimitar"][QUOTE="Shiggums"][QUOTE="kalossimitar"][QUOTE="Shiggums"][QUOTE="kalossimitar"][QUOTE="trix5817"][QUOTE="kalossimitar"]hummm....dude, when youre trying to prove a point at least back it up or surlign something, you just sound stupid, right now.
kalossimitar
Well, that's ironic........
you, again, proved my point. Thank you kind sir for owning yourself.
Actually, I think he was pointing out how you said he "sounds" stupid, when he didn't actually make a noise. Therefore, you were owned...
read all the posts about what you intend to comment first. What he meant is that my posts of before sounded stupid, therefore, that was ironic of saying he sounds stupid when he thinks I sounded stupid. Get your fact straight before going in something that has nothing to do with you. People like you are really annoying.

And I acknowledge that. But the key word was "trying", as in attempt. Albeit an attempt that failed...

Why only one was called genocide on you list, you may ask? Because countries are sovereign on their own territory.I prefer a country that has interior troubles and get two factions inside its border battling each other and making a lot of casualties than a country attacking other countries, which they dont have the right to, BTW.
The whole idea that the world isnt rampaged at this time is because countries try to accept and respect the principle of sovereignty that is at the base of international relations. But, from what we can see in the last decades' history, USA dont respect that principle, thus making the statu quo and attempt to be at peace in jeopardize.
kalossimitar
You're arguing semantics, tens of thousands were killed and even more displaced. GET THIS INTO YOUR HEAD. I'm glad you prefer a country selectively killing it's own inhabitants over an outsider, it really makes sense now. I'm glad you've straigtened it out that you only have the right to kill people if they're YOUR OWN PEOPLE.:|
In the last two decades the US has been in Iraq, the Balkans, Afghanistan and then Iraq again. (Major operations).
The first three are legit, the second Iraq war is not. So again how has the US been war mongering the world since then?
displaced bla bla bla, displaced bla bla bla. Its like the 4 time you use that term. Just to make its simple, I would prefer to lose my home, my country and live in atroceous conditionsthan simply cease to exist. And I believe must people think the same way. In Iraq, people werent displaced, they were just killed, your soldiers as Iraqis.
Yes, it does make sense, because if it was the opposite, there wouldnt be live on Earth anymore, just an example, nuclear weapons, a country wont use nuclear on its own territory to suppress an uprising. A country will use it though against another one. If it was the contrary (countries making only war to each others) we would have ceased to exist during the Cold war, or even before.
Also, who are you to contradict the very principle that is at the base of international security, peace???? Maybe world peace is an utopia, but the UN works to make it a fact, and they do a pretty good job at it. Idf it wasnt for the principles of sovereignty and the non-use of force in international relations, there would be a hell lot of casualties, liek I said, we wouldnt exist anymore at all. Those principles that everyone tries to respect is what makes countries work with each other.
Apparently the Palastiens see otherwise, and many are risking their lives to get their ancesteral homes back...
just remember that most of them are religious, a really high percentage. That means they believe in the paradise as described in their religion. Muslims have a paradise too. Im atheist. So yes, Palestinians see things differently, but they are biased by their faith.
This is rediculous buddy.. Through out history millions have died for ideas such as freedom, or even as simple as getting their land back.. We wouldn't have so many wars through out history if people valued their lives more then the other ideas you have brought into account..
The United States wouldn't be the US today if they thought their lives were more important then the ideals they wished to have.. Hell say that to the NATIVE AMERICANs many did battling US forces for their ancestral homes..
