My vote is Tom Brady, I think QBs nowadays are better than they used to be and Brady is better than Manning IMO.

I think Joe Montana. You cant vote for Manning after last years super bowl.

I did :o
Seriously though, Manning should retire with all of the major QB records. Others have one more superbowls, but football is a team game, he only controls what his offense does. It;s not his fault Colts have been weak against the run for years.
No Dan Marino? He is only faulted because he never won a super bowl. But skill-wise, he was one of the very best.

Because he too also fell to Montana. See SB XIX. No Jerry Rice either. 8)
SB XXIV (55-10), and KC over Denver on MNF say hi. No one in their right mind would argue that Montana wasn't an incredible quarterbacl, but as I mentioned, he had a lot better coaching and team mates. Elway essentially had the entire game on his shoulders for his whole career up until his last few years. No doubt he carried inferior teams to playoffs and Super Bowls on the strength of his own play. And he was definitely more physically gifted and durable than Montana. It's hard to argue with Montana's record, Super Bowls, and efficiency but it's also hard to argue against Elway's pure power of will. If you switched the quarterbacks in that Super Bowl, the 49ers still would have crushed the Broncos and I don't think there's any doubt about that. And I also doubt that Montana could have brought those Broncos teams to the big game. Again, this is all speculation. I don't think it's unreasonable to argue for either of them. But to put Manning and Brady on the list and not Elway is something I think we can all agree is ridiculous.[QUOTE="xfactor19990"]John Elway, DUH!!!!!!!Renegade_Fury

I don't say Montana is better than Elway because of that SB alone, it's just more ammo. I've written many arguements for why Montana is the G.O.A.T over the years, but I'm not in the mood since I really couldn't care less about football ATM. I will say I loved watching Elway as a kid too, and I do agree he is better than anyone else on that list aside from Joe. I'd take either of them over anyone else playing right now for sure.

I think it could be either Montana or Peyton Manning, although I voted for Montana. Brady is good, but I think he's a product of the system in New England. Dan Marino also deserves much consideration. I would have to give Brett Favre consideration as well, if not for the fact that he acts like a diva and throws too many INTs. His longevity does deserve respect. If McNabb ever wins a Super Bowl, I'd have to put him in the mix too. I don't see it happening in Washington though.
Elway was a great QB, but not as good as many people seem to think. Take a look at his stats (completion percentage, TD to INT ratio, yardage, etc..) compared to these other guys. His don't even measure up to McNabb's.

You say that he shouldn't be considered one of the very best because he lost to Montana's team, the 49ers in the Super Bowl? My point is that it should have nothing to do with how good of a quarterback they are, seeing how there are 30 to 40 plus players other players on your team who get playing time every single game.[QUOTE="Renegade_Fury"][QUOTE="BMD004"] You realize that football is a TEAM game, right? You think I don't know it takes a team? I've always believed it starts at the top, from ownership, GM, coaching, and both the o-line and d-line before I start worrying about the QB. The reason the niners have 5 Super Bowls is because of Eddie D, Carmen Policy, and Bill Walsh and their superb eyes for talent and coaching.

Let's look at the record books: Most seasons leading league in Yards gained: 1st: Dan Marino - 5 seasons Joe Montana - Not on list Most Consecutive seasons leading league in yards gained: 1st Dan Fouts - 4 seasons 2nd Dan Marino - 3 seasons Joe Montana - Not on list Most yards gained in Career: 1st Brett Favre - 69,329 2nd Dan Marino - 61,361 3rd John Elway Most seasons 3,000 or more yards passing: 1st Brett Favre - 18 seasons 2nd Dan Marino - 13 seasons Joe Montana - not on list Most yards gained in a single season: 1st Dan Marino - 5,084 Most games 400 or more yards passing in career: 1st Dan Marino - 13 games 2nd Joe Montana - 7 games Most games 400 or more yards passing in a season: 1st Dan Marino - 4 in '84 2nd Dan Marino - 3 in '86 Most games 300 or more yards passing in career: 1st Dan Marino - 63 games 2nd Brett Favre 3rd Peyton Manning Most games 300 or more yards passing in a season: 2nd Dan Marino Joe Montana not on list Most consecutive season leading league in passing: 2nd Dan Marino Montana not on list Most Touchdown passes in career: 1st Favre 2nd Marino 3rd Manning Most touchdown passes in season: 1st Brady 2nd Manning 3rd Marino Most games 4 or more touchdown passes in career: 1st Favre 2nd Marino Most games 4 or more touchdown passes in season: 1st Dan Marino 2nd Dan Marino In the record books, Dan Marino is near the top, if not in the top spot on most quarterback stats. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here, I'll take out the ones that matter. You know the ones in the postseason:
Most TDs (45)
Games with a passing rating over 100 (12)
Second in passing yards and games with 300+ passing yards (5,772)
1,1142 yards, 11 TD, 0 INTs, passer rating of 127.8, 3 MVPs, and 4-0 record in SB's
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can list Montana's regular season numbers too, but what's the point? He has them, difference is, he didn't have to do everything. He had more weapons, a D, and the greatest coach that ever lived. Marino and Elway didn't, which is why they had to those things. What Montana did have that made him stand above the rest, was his ability to come in the clutch. Be it MNF, playoffs, or the SB, Montana came to play. That is why he won all 4 SBs, and had both the biggest blowout SB win, and arguably the greatest comeback drive ever as well. Take into account he did this in a non salalry cap and tougher era for passers, and just further boosts his legend. Even in KC, he proved it when he toppled Elway's Broncos on national telivision and took the Chiefs to the AFC championship game.
I'm not going to waste my time any further. I'm not trying to convince you. You can believe whoever you want is the greatest, but for me, if my life was on the line, there is no QB I'd take over Joe Cool.
Green Bay ,born and breed....I bleed the green and gold so I guess my vote would go 4.............JOE MONTANA !!!!!!!
right in their with Dan Marino,Terry Bradshaw, the great Bart Starr ,these are the legends of the NFL not gutter trash like Vick,Elway, and that piece of stinky cheese who is stinking up Minnesota ,whats-his-name Bent Turncoat ,Brent Backstabber.....Ah I forget.
Arghhh, I really dis-like Unitas. So many people put him on their list because they "heard" he was good in the 50's. If you have never seen the guy play how can you say he was the GOAT? I hate when old players get hype for no reason other then the fact that they are old players. Unitas is overrated by modern NFL fans wanting to sound like they know about football. Sorry, I had to say it.Joe Montana or Johnny Unitas.

Joe Montana -QB today is MUCH easier to play: 1. rules on hits to QB 2. rules on WR's 3. plays called for them (except for Manning) = can't compare stats b/w eras The position is about winning Favre is good...but not an all-time great IMO (he has longevity). But I can think of at least 5 QB's I would take over him (not in top 5 = not an all-time great IMO) Montana, Manning, Brady, Elway, and Staubach...maybe even Youngrawsavon
Finally someone recognized Manning for his playcalling abilities. I mean audibles almost every damn play because he can read the defense.
Favre is one of the worst in my opinion...
GD-1369211121
Anyone who goes to the Sports Game Discussion board could probably tell you that I'm as much of a Favre-hater as anyone, but there's no way he's one of the worst QBs ever. He deserves to be in the Hall-of-Fame when he's done.
Anyway...I'd probably say Peyton Manning.
