Seriously, I would think that not beleiving in anything is depressing.
I am not trying to troll, mock out Atheist's way of thinking or undermine them in any way. Just looking for an answer.

I'm not proud, it's just the way I am.
It's like saying why are religious people so eager to believe in eternal damnation? Isn't that more depressing?
"Not believing in anything"
Wow. Are you trying to say that just because I don't believe in a God that life should be depressing? Au contraire.
Please don't impose how you would feel onto others.
[QUOTE="Famiking"] Most people here are depressed, most people here are depressed, therefore most atheists are depressed. Fact.spazzx625Huh? it's okay spazz. you can cry, we won't judge you *judges*
I'm far from depressed. Thank you.Seriously, I would think that not beleiving in anything is depressing turtlethetaffer

Why are Christians/Muslims/Jews proud about believing in something for which there is zero evidence?
I think it's depressing that religious people devote their lives to something that does not exist, when their time could be better spent elsewhere, like making the world a better place.

not just that, but they all give money to their religions, right?Maybe I'm proud because I sat down and thought long and hard about what I believed and what I didn't, and after a lot of introspection I came up with my own view of the world instead of the one my family wanted me to have. I'm not sure why I'd be ashamed to be an atheist.
Atheist here and i'm wondering the same question about religious people. What could be more depressing than living your entire life in fear of spending eternity in hell... or what could be more depressing than spending your entire life not living to the full because you're scared of going to hell or think you're going to heaven or think you'll be reincarnated. Atheists realise this is the only chance we get :) Brainkiller05
You are generalizing all religion,I am a Christian but believe more that positive acts and a positive state of mind directly affects the outcome in certain situations. I also do not believe heaven is a place just for Christians, I believe its a place for people across all religions and that its more how people live their life and treat others rather than going to church every weekend is how people are judged. I know its not a popular belief among Christianity, but its the way I feel.
Just because youre Aetheist doesnt mean that you live a depressing life... doesnt mean that youre going to hell or any of that. Maybe the end is just the end for you guys, and thats ok too.
The thought of being an atheist doesn't make me proud. I just see it as the way I am but hold no emotion to it.
[QUOTE="MushroomWig"] But that's the problem with religion, you can't do everything that makes you happy without the threat of going to hell.FamikingOh please, do give examples. What do the Abrahamic religions prohibit that could make you depressed if you don't do it? The only thing I can think of is homosexual relationships. don't they prohibit beer?

Yes, but that isn't the difference between depression and happiness. AFAIK, depressed people are prone to alcoholism.

I'm not sure about Judaism, though.

yeh, dont even try to understand religeon. just hate on it, that makes the world a better place; because believing you'll suffer for eternity if your not a good person wouldn't make the world a better place. People like you who say ignorant statements like that dont give your beliefs a good name
Oh, yeah; almost all christians think that because they believe in god, go to the mass then they have a free ticket to heaven they go to heaven even if they do bad things. So Christians are aloud to be proud because they think they got a free ticket into heaven?
ok...

Doesn't Christianity include Lutherans and such..?
And if so...I thought Lutherans believed that only God chooses who goes to heaven and who doesn't...

Yeah, my bad; was talking about catholic ones. I have... sorry, had because my uncle died and she isn't anything to me anymore... Anyways, she is supposedly a faithful catholic and she believes that she will go to heaven but she is in fact a bad person. Also I can include the nuns of my old school.[ But if making the most of your life is being successful, helping out others, and doing all those other things like drinking and partying in moderation then religion is for you. MgamerBDYou forgot the most important thing...actually beliving in God.

From what i have read of Lutheranism...they believe there is a chest of merit...in this chest is the merit of all the good deeds done by the saints...and no one has the key to this chest except the Pope...who may dispense merit if necessary...otherwise they believe you'll go to Hell unless God chooses to save you...as far as i know at least..
