While I agree that most rich people seem to work hard, working hard does not necessarily lead to riches, for a whole mess of reasons. There's a lot of luck involved in getting rich.
Are you suggesting there should be no rich people? Everyone should get what they want without having to work for it? If so, I don't really want to live in such a society. A society where I'm not rewarded for the choices I've made is a society I don't want to live in.
hahahahaha, you think the world is actually black and white like this, lol. Your going to be very disappointed kidcause alot of people that are poor didnt work hard and of what i see get pregnent live off welfare

You can use the same argument for slavery.RushKing
No you can't. Slavery doesn't improve the life of the slaves. Capitalism improves the lives of everyone.

Has it really? I mean do the common worker have more money to spend on things now than lets say the 1970's?Capitalism improves the lives of everyone.
airshocker
Except for those whose lives it does not improve.
Keep fighting the good fight, though. We could use a new Vuurk... You know, for lulz.

If we were still living under the umbrella of feudalism, we wold blame feudalism. If we were in ancient Rome, we'd blame slavery.
Would you like us to just go ahead and act like imbeciles and say that poor people are always lazy?

Now you're getting into things unrelated to capitalism. Capitalism, by and large, has improved the lives of everyone in this country. You can't deny it.
And I am a common worker. I don't have a college degree. Under socialism I'd be mediocre. Capitalism has made my life what it is today.

That's not really an argument, though I don't suppose you intend it to be.

No.

Comparing me to Vuurk makes you look like an idiot. Almost as much of an idiot as believing capitalism hasn't improved the life of everyone in this country.

Sure you not mean that the plenty ideas that people have had throughout times have improved your life?[QUOTE="LordQuorthon"]

Has it though? Has it improved the lives of people who come down with cancer because of carconigenic materials pumped into the environment? Has it improved the lives of people who suddenly find themselves unemployed and unable to support their families because the company figured it was more profitable to move the factory overseas?

That must be why the buying power of the average American citizen has dropped by 20% in the last 20 years.
You said it didn't improve any lives.RushKing
I said it didn't improve the lives of the slaves. Either represent what I say correctly, or we're done talking.
I never said slavery was right.

Without capitalism how many of those ideas would even exist?

I believe it has. Without capitalism we wouldn't have the internet. No taxes from capitalism means no funding for DARPA, after all. Without capitalism how many of the medical breakthroughs that we've had today would even exist?
You're blaming only capitalism for that second example? What about the role government played in forcing that business to go overseas?

Well in a specific example I had in mind the government (state) had actually granted the company tens of millions of dollars to build a new factory (as the company argued that the old factory was too out of date to meet their needs) in the town. The company did indeed build the factory, then hauled ass over to China barely before the morter on the final brick was dry.

Well that's crony-capitalism and I don't support that.

Capitalism as we know it and crony capitalism go hand in hand. All the resources brought from Africa at the expense of aboriginal populatiopns that were enslaved and killed because of it has fulled capitalism in the whole world. Those people lived better before as hunter gatherers than now.[QUOTE="worlock77"]

Oh I wasn't arguing that the state giving the company the money was capitalistic. Just saying that it didn't really seem like the government was forcing the company overseas.
At any rate I'm not going to try to argue that capitalism is evil. I just don't buy into the idea that it's this totally wonderful thing that benefits everyone (hell the name itself implies that at some point in the chain you're capitalizing on (ie: taking advantage of) somebody else). It is like any other human system - imperfect and with its own set of pros and cons.
