You dont know alot about the NHS... and its not free, far from it.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
It's not free. You pay more taxes than we do partially because you have "free" social services we lack. ElraptorYet most Americans have no trouble paying a higher proportion of our considerable GDP than any other country when it comes to the military.
The Government is corrupt and i don't want them deciding whether i live or die. What is going to happen when the government needs to cut spending? What will happen when the government fails and all that is left are the businesses? I see how much they care about the roads and i don't want to look like that.
[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"]Because it's communist.edd678
Not really...
Yeah it is. As is social security and other stuff like that."Free" health care is only free to those who don't pay taxes.Oleg_HuzwogWhy then do you agree with free education? Free transportation (ROADS)? Free government subsidies to various businesses? Free defense? Why are all these things guaranteed in the American psyche as something we absolutely must have, and not healthcare?
Nothing (NOTHING) on Earth is free...no products/services, anyways.
Your "free" health care isn't free. You pay higher taxes to make it SEEM free. The reason why us Americans don't want socialist health care (the CORRECT way to call it) is because it means higher taxes.

Nope, i pay taxes like the rest of us in England for the NHS. And im glad i do. I like the fact that if i go to hospital i dont have to worry about footing a bill i cannot afford when i get out. And what is wrong with communism??
Would you rather have lived in East Germany or West Germany? North Korea or South Korea? Russia or the US/Western Europe? Also see 2 and 3.I would rather live in a leninist russia. Lenin was a genious. Unfortunately stalin took over and ****ed it up big time. Most communist states have been corrupted into totalitarianism. Rather than spreading the wealth the leader keeps all the wealth to himself. Lenins Regime wasn't like this and actualy worked.
I'm not sure Lenin was as great as you think he was. For example. And another. For arguement's sake, saying the he did a decent job, I'm not sure 5 years or so of it kind of working is worth decades of totalitarianism and mass murder/labor camps/etc. People always say communism works in theory but not in practice. But it's never worked. A theory that is always wrong isn't very good.Yeah we know about the taxes. You cant disagree though....its better to pay the 10$ for every 100$ bill here then it is to pay for health care. I dont know one person up here who has complained about it. Paying money to see a doctor is crap. Paying money for a operation is just more crap.[QUOTE="Elraptor"]It's not free. Personally i love this country's laws and i don't think i could ever live in the U.S. Paying to see a doctor is just not normal......
Just the other day i was watching a movie that was based on a true story when a dad and mom were poor and there kid needed a heart transplant or he would die. Guess what? The family didn't have the money and they threw the kid out like nothing.
Anybody who calls that "Awesome health care" are just.....woah.

I'm a Brit too, my experience (and several of my friends) with the NHS ahs been pretty poor. That's why I have health insurance, so I don't ever have to cope with massive bills, but I don't have to wait a year for treatment. The only thing the NHS is good for is consuming resources (42% (serious) of the UK's budget last year was spent on healthcare and social services) and for prescription medication (one of my friends has type one diabetes (the genetic one) and is given his insulin by the NHS).

Indeed...one of the problems with socialized medicine is long waiting lists for necessary care. And it doesn't bode well for confidence when individuals that reside in a country with such healthcare and pay the high taxes purchase their own insurance for proper care.

Free education is agreeable because in a capitalist society, we are inclined to let everyone have an equal chance at oppurtunity.
Free transportation (ROADS)? Agreeable because this nation and her people seeked to industrialize to create better oppurtunities.
Free government subsidies? I have no idea what you are talking about.
Free defense? It's agreeable because we need a military to protect the USA, her citizens, and her interests. Part of protecting the US means defending a nation in which oppurtinity is ample and open to everyone capable. Besides, you can always buy defense if you don't have faith in the US military.
Free healthcare? We have that to a small extent. The poor are given government assistance. Middle income cla$$ families can afford health insurance - and so can the rich. So how is that a problem?

Well, why is it that education's availibility is more important than healthcare? I should think that stitching up a cut professionally rather than letting it get infected and amputated is more important than teaching our children how to read and write, which is a service most people can afford anyway. Huh. Well, so that means that schools in poor areas eventually make poor areas wealthier, right? Because I don't really see that happening at all.Well, why is it that education's availibility is more important than healthcare? No, most people can't afford to teach their children everything they need or would want to know. Boarding and private schools cost a ****load of money, if you havn't noticed - and they're standards are monitored by the government, which makes sure they don't suck so as kids who attend these private institutions are not at a disadvantage.
Free government subsidies, as in, all government subsidies are free, and they all cost the government money. We probably spend as much on subsidizing agriculture as we would on healthcare.

That is because a nation needs a proper agricultural industry to survive. I don't know...but living in a nation that can't feed itself seems like it would die pretty quickly.
