[QUOTE="lemonfreshpanda"]I don't like your comment on visual simulation, mainly because visual stimulation is 50% of filmmaking. But the whole problem I find with your argument is that you're using your literary backround to judge visual arts.Chloroformality
What people fail to realize is that all of these Anime's you watch start on paper. And I don't mean the drawings, I mean the foundation, the story of the animation. A lot of them rely very heavily on story, but a lot of Japanese studios don't know how to tell the right story.
I'm not even going to give them the benefit of the doubt, they suck at it.
*sigh*..... Alright..... It's like a kid when he's finger painting. He takes every color he can possibly use and smudges it onto the paper, thinking it'll make it better or more interesting. That's contemporary Japanese storytelling. Cramming complimentary colors together, thinking the "unique" variation of warm and cools will make it more interesting.
Well, it does, but that doesn't make it good.
I base the stories of anime off of literature because, well..... they're stories. Just because they're told on cells doesn't mean that they too can be as overly-stylized as the look in which they're portrayed.
Heart of Darkness was told in a Vietnam setting. Same story, completely different setting which is strangely stylized. Why did it work? STOOOORRRYYYY.
Answer me this. How great would these Animes be if they were just books. No illustrations... no visual medium whatsoever... just your own brain...
.......... how well do you then think they'd be recieved?
That's an interesting way to look at it, but what if those literary works you are referencing were stripped down to the illustrations? At the end of the day the visuals are very important. I'm not sure what deep artistic/literary merit is worth because at the end of the day it's about entertainment.

Well, those books would have been stripped of their real message and purpose. A picture can be worth a thousand words, but very rarely are they even worth 50.
Words remain the same, alone as words. Pictures lose their meaning without any explanation, usually provided by words.Â
I liked it when I was younger than I just grew out of it ( Really fast. ) and today I am glad I got out of anime.
I don't like generlizations.. no one thinks anime is weird maybe people you know do but I don't know them so why do you bring your questions here?PlayedThemAllCause he's a free individual whose excercising his free will, quite a concept is'nt it.:P

So your point is that on story alone they are weak? Did you consider that, that might say something about how the story-telling style weaves visual and non-visual elements more tightly together than their western counterparts? It can be a pro as well as a con depending on how you look at it, the way you are trying to attach meaning to manga is pretty absurd since you aren't even comparing them validly to something like say...a comic book or graphic novel. If you want to compare what is on screen to what orignated on paper then you have to be fair and have the sources equivilent.

i dont get it either. not only is alot of it porn. but even the ones done profesionaly are boring. iv watched em...hip-hop-cola
anime isnt porn.....HENTAI is porn..Â
Becuase people, who are young, watch shows like Pokemon and Sailermoon and when they grow out of childhood they look back on these things and see them as childish. I know becuase i used too think the same way before i saw Spirited away, which completly shifted my opionion.
BTW, Eureka Seven is the best anime ever.

I'm talking about visual medium all together. Graphic novels alone, manga or western, tend to be pretty bland in terms of story. Enough basics are given to have bulk and slight purpose to why Character A is fighting Character B.
A story can be good or not, with or without the visual aid. First and foremost, visual aid is nothing more than to gain the interest of the reader/viewer more densly. It all depends, though. I've read graphic novels that use panels as, more or less, simple storyboards to help the story (which is what was focused on the most). They were better, in my opinion, because they didn't sacrefice purpose for paint, if you know what I mean.
This is why comic book films tend to be a little.... eh..... iffy. Not only is it tricky to mimic the style of a graphic novel into live action - and make it work - but film is also a story heavy medium and they can sometimes suffer because of that; the expectations for a gripping tale are much higher than in comics alone.
A comic usually sticks to the basics: Hero, Villain/Antagonist, Sidekick, a quest, obstacles (usually physical), and a climax. It's enough to give objectives to their characters, instead of just making people fight...... which also sometimes happens...
I don't like that. I leave visual stimulation to the children.Â

Anime is one show?
It's because of the, for the most part, bad english dubs, I say.
BranKetra
The English terrible dubing can make the show more funny. If you ant to see finny dubing. got to youtube and trype in : Yu-gi-oh the abridged series. that is amazing.
I love animes, just check out my picture...lol
but when it came to joining the anime club in my school, I was like HELL NO!!
the people in the club are pure outcast and weirdos, and I mean it, they are obessed with animes to a level I dont think I have liked anything.Â
