............ That means they are closeted homosexuals..

sSubZerOo

Not acting upon one's urges?..

.. That still means your gay and your closeted.. That leads to depression.. Agony and other such thigns.. Lets see you go Celebate for 15 years.. Afterall thats a "choice"..

Just because a person is celibate doesn't mean they are asexual. Just because a person could have homosexual sex, doesn't mean they are a homosexual.

[QUOTE="rockerbikie"]I think it is a choice, it's my opinion, it's a conservative opinion, people who think I'm ignorant are very left winged people. People whinge, complain and descriminate against conservative people. It's a person right to think what they think. Gays make up only 10% of the population, yet, they have so much power. Ring_of_fire

gay people have power? I wish I knew this earlier!

but seriously, that's a ridiculous statement to make, as in some states, it's legal to fire a person just for being gay banned gay marriages/civil unions etc.

Look at this and you see what I mean.

accepting people for who they are (as long as they are consenting adults)? My GOD! The gays have gone too far!

Seriously, what's the problem of having gay people be more accepted in society?

When a guy wears nailpolish and complains he can't wear it in a classroom he calls it homophobic but females can't. If you say anything against gay you are homophobic.

Yes, but I don't think being straight or being gay is so cut and dry for most people. Urges and releases for your urges are learned all over the place. Some people like to run, but they would never know that had they never been taught to walk. I think some undeniably are born with a certain chemical balance that makes them favor being around their own sex more than otherwise. It seems as equally thick-headed to say they are the only people who are homosexual as is the other argument. It's certainly beyond stupid to say that all gay people just chose one day that they liked something different.

Um, I'm fairly sure no one has called you homophobic or sexist; we're simply asking what justification you have behind the assertion that gay people have a lot of power.

I never stated that not acting upon these urges made you straight..nor did i say anything about stopping the urges...i was inquiring as to whether or not you were stating that not acting upon one's homosexual feelings equated to one being a "closet" homosexual.. And i have been celibate for 18 years..

I really think it has a lot to do with the way you were reared. The things you learned to feel comfortable with as a small child. The things you began to be infatuated to, etc.

I'm kind of thinking somewhere along these lines. I think that a person's upbringing, the environment that they grew up in, to some some degree influences what sort of person they become (well, duh) But that's not to say that a child who grows up in a gay environment will necessesarily be gay . I guess it just sort of depends on what feels "right"......more or less.

What do you get out of being homophobic and sexist, exactly? Do you enjoy it? I don't understand.

The sustainablity of my beliefs.

What's the point in believing? What is the point in resentment, what is the point in anything? Why does something that has no affect on your every day life, bother you? Why do you choose to get into peoples faces because they are a certain way? Why do you deny them of marriage? What's the point? What do you gain? I don't get this opposition. Homosexuals are human, just like you, me, and every other human. It's stupid and childish that we are still somewhat stuck in the 60s, regarding another matter. Do you really think your belief is for the advancement of society?

Just come to Holland, we don't even have these kind of discussions over here because homosexuality is tolerated here.
And no our society hasn't collapsed since gay marriage in 2001.

I don't see what's the big deal about this...

What part of homosexuality is it that you don't understand? Because you seem to confuse it with transsexuality.

I'm a homosexual male and I don't live as a female, neither do I want to.

[QUOTE="Xx_Hopeless_xX"]I wasn't aware genes mutated in such a way as to change what one is sexually attracted to in so many cases...the same genetic mutations don't occur very often as far as i'm aware..

Xx_Hopeless_xX

So the obviously conclusion then is that it is unlikely to be genetics. Of course, it can be a non-choice without being genetic in nature, as I said, so this changes very little.

I don't believe one is born with a set mentality in regards to sexuality..and ultimately one chooses whether or not to act upon ones urges..or emotions..if you will..

But homosexuality refers to the emotions, not the choice to act upon them.

When we say that somebody is a homosexual we mean that he/she experiences emotional and physical attraction towards the same sex.

Whether or not that person will act upon those feelings doesnt change the fact that they are homosexual.

I never said it did..i'm trying to understand the mentality of those who believe it is not at least partially a choice..

When we are talking about the emotions and not acting upon them its very unlikely that it can be.

Just as likely as it is for someone to choose to be straight.

All I know is I didn't chose to be straight, so how could homosexuals chose to be gay?

No. If we mean choice as a conscious one (I dont see how else it could be) imo it isnt.

The feelings of attraction dont come by choice imo.

I dont believe anyone can choose by what they are getting aroused and whom they will fall in love with, have a crush on etc.

Because they're ignorant.

Thats the only reason why. Theres no legitimate reason to think being gay is a choice.

If you don't like blondes, you don't like blondes. Its not a "choice".

So being gay can't be a "choice".

smchacko

it's not that simple...

how can you possibly think that parts of your personality just "are". Your entire personality and life develops through conditions, its not an unchanging and definite or "actual" thing.

Yes, yes it is that simple.

Your personality is partially based off your genetics.

A cautious person is cautious either by learned condition or nature. Some people are born certain ways.

Some parts of you just "are". Its the same with everyone. Your mind is no different than your body in that sense. You have blonde hair just because you inhereted it. You act one way just because thats how your brain works. Your entire personality is NOT based off environment. You are predisposed to certain conditions of the mind.

I thought we concluded that genetics had nothing to do with it...
