Actually ad hominems are covered under a different area of ToU, its separate from offensive material. Like you cant go posting porn, or saying something raciest, or sexist, or ageist. Its wrong to do so and offensive. Why view one thing as more wrong then the other when they are all equally wrong? Cant there be conversation that excludes these biased remarks?xhellcatx

We're all biased. It's human nature. That includes all kinds of biases, not just non-PC ones. Obviously not all "racist, sexist or ageist" material could be banned, or we wouldn't be allowed to talk about tendencies of young and old to have different kinds of opinions, or about which gender differences are more scientifically valid... to you have a link to the ToU by any chance? I thought "offensive" referred mostly to deliberate personal insults.

Again, I thought when you mentioned "offensiveness" you were referring to saying something that could offend someone else; when in theory anything is potentially offensive. Stuff like porn is a different matter, since porn, like cussing, is considered profane, thus is still "offensive" butin a different sense than insults or offensive ideas.

Besides, if you claim "they are all equally wrong" (what are all equally wrong?) then where do you draw the line in deciding what to consider offensive?

The opposite is true. If a man sleeps around he usually gets high fives from his buddies. If a woman sleeps around she is labeled a whore.WheresKinggiAt

Just look at it this way: If a key opens a bunch of different locks, it's a master key. If a lock is opened by a bunch of different keys, it's just a crappy lock.

Besides, there's always the reverse situation: If a girl is a virgin, she's looked at as sweet, innocent, and pure. If a guy is a virgin, he's considered a loser who can't get laid.

Talking about bias issues can be done in a way that isnt offensive. Discussing them, and even yea, debating them is ok.. such as we are doing now. We aren't offending each other by USING the bias against each other, we are merely discussing bias issues. :) See? ... Now, finding levels of offense can be tricky, yes indeed, and I can sort of understand why the sexist topics come up so often, because of the gender demographics of the board. Its like 80 billion men to 25 women, so its to be expected, yes, but it could be more respectful. ... And actually, if you want to keep talking about this, we really should make a new topic about it specifically, so we dont hijack the thread like we kinda are doing lol. To the TC. You really should just be yourself, because if you change, and your not comfortable with who you are (which really you wouldnt be cause you had to change), negative things can happen. You may become moody (or more moody), and violent in either verbal or physical ways, because you may feel backed into a corner or in a cage. Be yourself. Be true to yourself. If you keep being you, you will find a girl who will want to be with you FOR you. Not every girl wants to change the men they want... I know I want my guy to be perfect for me from the get go... not in like 5 years. Why should I waste my time trying to change him into something he isnt, you know what I mean?

Could someone give the real ratio please? I find myself actually surprised by how abundantly many women seem to participate in this site.

I was going by a recent thread that polled to see how many women were here. Of course, it is probaly off a bit, but its the best thing I could go by. According to it, there were 25 to 30 female users on Gamespot. (at least here in OT). Why does it truely matter though, are you trying to make a point, or are you genuinely just innocently curious?

... are you serious? What have we been talking about, that wasnt the topic? ... Im under the impression your trying to get under my skin. If im wrong, then im just reading your tone wrong and i apologize, but if you are, then keep trying cause its not working ^_^.

And 'what if he doesn't find a girl who will want to be with him for him'? ..... Then the girl he does end up with if he changes himself will not be getting the REAL him, and it will be unfair to both him and her. The relationship would be destined to fail at some point.

That's not necessarily a representative sample though. A better way to find out would be to find some means of automatically scanning all the profiles and determining which gender so many GSers self-identify as. Which still wouldn't be a representative sample, since not all give their gender, and not all who give it are necessarily telling the truth, but it's a little better than a thread poll...

Mostly curious. But I also think that if you underestimate the prominence of women on the board, that might throw off yourinterpretation of why "sexism"is being allowed here. Not that it'd necessarily be perfect otherwise...

I suppose in that case the question is whether or not that's better than nothing...

Having emotions and liking rainbows, unicorns, watching romantic comedies, and enjoying lazy days are not related.

"I just might punch a hole through a wall" - First, I was like, "MANLY!"

"and have to find me a secret hiding place where no one came see me cry." - Then, I lol'd

Radiatedrich91

That notion has problems BEYOND a mere double standard with respect to gender. There's all kinds of noted virgins with significant accomplishments. (Isaac Newton, IIRC, was an example of this.) Are people who call male virgins losers implying that ALL of them are losers? If not, by what standards would they deem virginity pathetic in some guys and not others?

I just don't bother with women or pursuing relationships. My own experience has told me that I'm simply not compatible with them, sexually attracted yes, but not socially compatible.

"Experience" has told you that? In what sense? Careful about judging by experience, it can give you the wrong impression sometimes...

Women and complex and you will neverbe able to understand them. I tried explaining this to my best (female) friend when she was having a hard time with a girl she liked ...

Probably because I've been hanging out with a lot of females the past year but I can easily go up and start a conversation with a female, but ****ed if I can do it with a male ....

That's a stereotype. Men being cold and nonchalant to the feelings of others is not a unanimous trait among us. More than likely they are acting like that to appear more manly to impress you womenfolk.

Change "experience" to "lack of experience and fear of the unknown" and then that guy's statement is actually truthful.

Same reason men say women can't drive. Because believing in silly non-true information is fun and easy on the brain =3
