No evidence.
No logic in believing in one.

I believe in God and I think all of that is complete and utter BS.because a all loveing fairy in the sky that farted the universe in 7 days sounds BS? if you do bad he punishes you by sending you to hell....>almasdeathchild
Ive noticed theres a lot of atheist on this forum ( and all over the word )
and although I'm Christian, a lot of you guys bring up good points why you dont believe in a God.
So help me out...What are the reasons why I shouldnt belive in a God...in other words give me YOUR reason...
My ultimate goal is to make a list of ever reason and to somehow be able to find the answer to each.

I know some of you love trolling, but please keep it away from this theard...

I asked questions.
I started looking at The Bible in its original scripts (Hebrew/Greek/Armaic) and reading up on contemporary culture of the time. I began to realize that The Bible is heavily influenced by the mythos of surrounding cultures, both in the OT and NT eras. Researching the authorship of the various books of The Bible made it obvious it wasn't as cohesive a manuscript as it would lead you to believe.
Further, understanding the original texts gave insights into many words that change the whole meaning of large swaths of scripture: the idea of an immortal soul arising from the mistranslation of nephesh, for instance.
I was also doing a lot of reading on scientific issues as well: biology, sociology, astronomy...I ate that stuff up (still do). The natural explanation of things just made more sense.
But there's still that first cause question, and to that I leave an open mind. But I do think a good book of science is closer to the mind of God than any religious text.

I'm just saying that the belief that there is something out there that is keeping the universe balanced or something is comforting.ghoklebutter

The biggest reason is that I can't find a reason. Â I'm open to the idea of a god-like entity, but I have yet to see any evidence that would make me believe in one. Â Belief in a god seems to be predicated on accepting what cannot be proven despite lack of evidence, and I don't operate that way. Â
I also think that there are far more reasonable explanations for the emergence of religion than the truth of their texts. Â When I stopped believing in god I started looking at these matters more scientifically and critically and they started to make more sense. Â The non-existence of Moses, the Exodus story being allegorical, the bleeding of local gods and goddesses into the emerging Jewish theology, the anti-oligarchical feelings associated with iconographic destruction and signs of rebellion within the Egyptian Empire and the association of their pantheon with oliogarchy, the oral tradition leading to disparities in certain stories. Â When you start looking at Biblical history without preconceptions then it starts to make a lot more sense.
Because I have no legitimate reason to believe in any deity.
In short as far as I'm concerned:
Scientific theories concern themselvs with the HOW, and are conceived through tests and analysi.
Religions are concerned with the WHY, and require blind FAITH.
which god are you talking about not believing in because there are a few thousand to pick from.
at least give me a hint.

Does it matter?
Because I don't care.
1. If there's no God then cool.
2. If there is well, I'm already going to hell.

There's just not any evidence.
It just comes down to how i think, I need evidence and data to believe something.
I'm sure you believe lots of thing without any real evidence. There's just not any evidence.

Obviously... It's not practical to extensively research everything......
Â
Difference is that fx Ohm's law was conceived from observation, experimentation and analysis, and is also applicable in reality. We "believe in" Ohm's law because it functionally works.
More importantly, there is no science VS religion debate. (Proper) science aims to explain what we don't understand, technically everything is a theory.
Practically, precision is key! Take the number pi for example.... It's considered to be 3.14 but a more accurate value is 22/7, although that's not really precise either.
What I'm getting at is that "science" - (as a blanket term) - is not opposed to religion, and there is no unified aim to explain our origins....
Medichlorian research is pretty much exclusive to organizations such as Scientology.... There are no creationism research projects going on, because there's no god factor in any practical research.
Â
Â
There's not a single shred of evidence towards any kind of specific deity or any deity at all..... It's not that we should adopt a "science religion", we just should'nt invent answers, where there are'nt any.

Thor means having to constantly fight (and getting utterly destroyed), although I'm sure every single carnal pleasure is included... Actually, that sounds kinda good.....
Dionysus....... Ergh, had to google this guy to be sure, it's good old Bacchus!! Sadly, this dude is'nt all drinking games..... He's sort of a harvest god, with a twist of celebratory binging ;)

I suppose Cthulhu is an alright master.... If you don't mind insanity and mutation, you'll fit right in!
And this thread was brought back from the dead because...?
