[QUOTE="swizz-the-gamer"][QUOTE="CptJSparrow"]It is not bad -- the thing, though, is that Kazakhstan is the greatest country in the world.jointed

What about America is good? The standard of living for the people? The literacy rate? The healthcare?

Their economy, military and the things you listed...

I purposely listed those things because they are low in comparison to many other places.

I know...but they're still good compared the the global averages.

But if my memory serves me, Cuba has a higher literacy rate than the USA... and everyone knows how America feels about communism.

Well, that doesn't matter.....kudos to Cuba though.

What about the 36 countries that have better healthcare than you? Or the 14 countries that have a higher literacy rate? What exactly makes America so good?

The superior and robust economy together with the fundamental values of the constitution...

Opportunity. The dream. That's what makes it so good. The fact that anybody from any background can succeed in the US. The emphasis on the individual and individual rights and freedoms. The fact that ingenuity and perserverance are rewarded. Yes, that's true in other countries, but here it is the creed of the nation.

You're arguing trivial points. Does the fact that the average lifespan in the US is 6 months shorter than another country, really impact anything? So I can expect to live to 78 years old instead of 79. Boy, that's so disappointing

And if the US is so bad, then why are the Cubans, with their incredible literacy rates, willing to die at sea to make it to this country? Why are so many mexicans, willing to risk their lives crossing an inhospitable desert to make it to this country. Why don't they go elsewhere? Why do millions of people apply for citizenship? There has to be something here that appeals to all these people. If it's a horrible country with no redeemable qualities, why is there such a demand to live there?

It's cool to hate America. They're angry we aren't like them. We don't give handouts to the poor and make concessions to anyone who throws a hissy fit.

For some reason they still believe we have segregated schools and bathrooms still and that all minorities pick cotton

One thing I don't understand about America is how they mark "America owns, we have freedom" as a bullet point, like everyone wakes up in the morning and says "damn, i wish i was american then i'd have freedom"

:? what do you mean by freedom, how can you boast about something that everyone in the world has :? even a few posts in this topic say "they're jelous cause of our freedom"... um yea, damn england sucks... all these ankle bracelets and constantly being whipped by my owner sucks.. -.-

I think they are referring to individual freedoms. Most industrialized nations have "freedom" or democratic processes, but in the US there is a strong emphasis on individual rights or freedom as opposed to group rights. For example, the right to bear arms. From a societal standpoint, that is potentially bad, but from an individual standpoint it is a freedom.

The US isn't the most free place in the world, there are several european countries with more freedom.

your government has a war criminal in charge of things, it's full of corruption yet most people are too arrogant to see it. ;)

because they see shows like flavor of love and realise how corrupt america is. On top of that, no other country has problems with obesity. If you were raised in a different culture, you'd laugh at how pethetic America can be.
