Seems some people get modded for posting the exact same thing that others post all the time...do they get modded too? hard to tell for certain...I'd bet that some mods see how people post, maybe they don't agree with a political opinion, or something else...then they see you here, posting something that quite frankly may or may not be against the TOU and interpret the TOU in their own way to justify modding you...simply because they don't like you.
but maybe I'm just taking it personally...

Getting moderations is a lot like getting speeding tickets. We can't be everywhere at once, and it is simply not possible to catch every violation, which is why we rely on users to report violations for us. If you were moderated for something that another person wasn't moderated for, it doesn't mean that what he did was OK, or that a mod has a personal vendetta against you. It means your comment was reported by someone and the other guy's comment wasn't.
I'll be blunt and honest - we deal with far too many reports on a daily basis to be bothered with petty grudges. And I don't doubt that my colleagues, like me, have gotten to the point where they are completely unemotional in dealing with those reports. A user will occasionally draw the ire of us as a collective group, but that's because they are blatantly and continually abusing their forum privileges (usually ban dodgers), and those users don't last long - not because we're petty, but because it's clear they have no interest in participating in the community in a civil manner.
Users are another story, though, and given that most moderations occur as the result of reporting, you can rest assured that if you're frequently moderated, you've probably got some enemies amongst the user base, and you're giving them the opportunity to "get back at you" by refusing to follow the rules.
We're very frequently accused of power tripping... but until you're a mod, you will never really understand how far from the truth that accusation is. I'm not surprised that's how people feel, though, given how frequently users lie about their moderation experiences (either directly, or more frequently by omission) to portray us as power trippers.
