Point losses tend to hit harder as you go higher in levels. I hate to think of what would happen if I got one. :lol:MAILER_DAEMONYeah, my most recent moderation knocked me down more than a full level; my kingdom for a high-level cleric
Kind of funny that the April Fools joke was generally about this problem, yet in reality most mods will never admit to it. I always read the ask the mods forum and the mods will always try to justify a moderation no matter how light it is.

If you spend a lot of time in AtM, you'll find that reversals do occur, too. The big problem is that some users seem to think that things should be run their way, not the admin's way. That's a problem when you're on a private website - the admins set the rules, not you. What may seem light to you may well be a big deal to the admins, and we have been tasked to be really quite ruthless with respect to some things that many users would consider "light," like cursing or mentioning torrent downloading.

I assume there is also a tendency to avoid looking at moderation issues for folks you know personally, just to avoid bias or driving wedges in e-friendships[QUOTE="lonewolf604"]

When I take over the world....I shall set the rules here.:oPoint losses tend to hit harder as you go higher in levels. I hate to think of what would happen if I got one. :lol:MAILER_DAEMON
I'm curious as to how that works. So you come acrossa post that deserves point loss, do you have any say on how many levels/points deductionthe userreceives? Oris therea "Point Loss" button you hit and the user receives whatever the system deems appropriate?

From what I've read if the mod goes for a point loss...it does so automatically. Could be wrong though...Yes well...I wouldn't be ruling the world that way.:( Very true, but overtaking the world leadership would require much more than winning the lottery and buying CBS, I think. I for one welcome our new Cure overlords.... as a formerly distinguished OT poster, I'd like to remind them that I can be useful in recruiting others to toil in their underground moderation factories.

It's automated. We just have "Notify with Point Loss" option. They are assigned automatically with suspensions as well.

We have 4 options: no penalty, warning, point loss, and suspension (which carries a point loss with it). Then for m-mods and admins, there's also the ban option. So yeah, we say point loss, the system decides how many points.I assume there is also a tendency to avoid looking at moderation issues for folks you know personally, just to avoid bias or driving wedges in e-friendshipsxaos
Yes, most moderators will avoid dealing with any report that involves people they like or dislike. But I don't have any qualms about explaining things to people who think well of me on AtM.

So what you are saying is that I just need to make sure that all the mods either love me or hate me... Me thinks that later will be easier to accomplish *goes off to make it happen*Because generally the people on here don't want to be verbaly molested. This is a sanctum for escaping other forums as you mentioned. IMO some of the forums here are bad enough with the current moderations. Gamespots harsh moderation is one of the reasons I post here.

Picky, picky. Truth be told, it IS more difficult to deal with people who don't like you. They're more inclined to let their personal feelings about you get in the way of seeing the logic behind their moderations.

Yeah, I still try to post a bit and lurk, but due to time constraints, I avoid debates. A few years ago I had plenty of time to be involved in them, but that's no longer the case. Since much of OT is debating, my posting has naturally thinned to a trickle.
