So what? That's not enough to grab the attention of the people here. In all the other sports, teams score at least two or three times each. In soccer you get 0-0,1-1, maybe 2-1 goals per match. Well to be blunt, that's not good enough. People don't have the patience to watch 90 minutes just to hope that at least one teams scores. I think baseball is a good example of what we like. We love to get those 2-1 pitching duels, but at the same time, those 6-5 games can provide just the same amount of enjoyment. In soccer it's just the same low scoring with potential 0-0 ties.Renegade_Fury
I'll first admit that I watch neither sport, but I am more familiar with football ("soccer") being British. The best way I can describe the excitement people feel watching it is like watching a thriller or horror movie - if you have people dying very easily left, right and centre it becomes tiresome, predictable and ultimately boring. With football each goal is crucial and requires a lot of skill and hard work due to the skill of the opposite team. Having more goals occur, in my eyes, doesn't make a game better, it shows just how simple the game is.

because it's much more of a sport than the american favorites. yeah, I said it.

Weighing 80lbs, running around in hot-pants and letting your long flowing locks down does not qualify as a sport. Neither does being to much of a limp wristed sissy to play a real sport. And don't even get me started on those sweet 0-0 tie games.

Don't go to any country outside the US because you'll get you arse handed to ya.

You don't weigh 80lbs you have to be very physically fit to run 6000-8000 kilometers on average per game. It's more of a sport than you'll ever see I bet you're **** and can't even send in a cross.

6000-8000 kilometers? Wow. Those must be some long games.

You do know that most people also watch "soccer" to see magic (a term used for soccer) and how well their team plays, aside from scoring right? if you watch "soccer" only for scoring then you shouldn't watch it at all.

That "magic" applies for all sports. All true sports fan like to see how well their team plays and examine the play itself. My point has to do with the popularity not whether it's a good sport or not. The popular sports here have more scoring during the game, and that it is the #1 reason why soccer is unsuccessful here.

Nah, I'm sure that "magic" can only be found in a few sports (including "soccer" and basketball), and again, if you Americans (not everyone) only care for the scoring on any match then that's sad.

But people do not just watch Football (real one) to see how many goals a team can score. In England, fans go to the matches to support their team, for the electric atmospheres and mostly for bragging rights. I went to a baseball game in America last year and admittedly it was dull; with an occasional 'lets go red sox'.Quite simply, sports like baseball will never generate the vocal, passionate fans that football has created. It is more than a sport.

"sigh" I'm not going to restate my entire argument again. I've already posted why I think soccer is popular in the rest of the world, and why it does not share that same success over here. Go back and read it if you like, I don't care. Yeah, you might feel that there is more passion, but that is because there is a much larger fanbase of the sport in general along with so much other reasoning that I don't want to get into. 've wasted enough time when I have an o-chem final to study for. I will say this though, if you switched the position of American football and soccer so that instead it was the rest of the world that enjoyed American football while over here soccer was popular instead, my points would still make sense.

[QUOTE="FirstDiscovery"][QUOTE="Renegade_Fury"] "sigh" it's not about it being easy or not. I have never heard anyone say they don't like it because he or she think it's easy. Hell, soccer is probably the #1 game played during elementary school. People don't like it because there is not enough scoring in comparison to the other popular sports. Renegade_Fury

It's popular due to the global ease of access, as well as the fact that kicking a ball is a fundamental human joy. People complain about the low score, but that's like complaining about an awesome shag just to complain you only got one orgasm.

because soccer is the world's sport.

american audiances are far more accustomed to "tv" sports... those in which the pacing and timing of the game is far more suitable to tv audiances. football, baseball, basketball and hockey have far more breaks in the game perfect to fit a commerical break in. time to run to the fridge to grab another beer, run to the bathroom to take a leak..etc.. soccer does not have that pacing and you can't expect an american to sit for 45 minutes straight watching the tv without a break

It's entertaining, easy to play, and it's a lot more fun and engaging as a spectator sport. I'd take a good football (I mean soccer, I don't acknowledge American Football as a sport) game over any other sport.

It's the cheapest, most accessible sport. All you need is a ball and two goals, meaning just about anyone can play. It's not hard to see why it's popular.

It's not failing, it's actually growing. Major League Soccer has an annual average attendance around 16,000, just about a thousand shy of the NHL and NBA. Seattle's new team currently averages 29,000 fans a game, Toronto has sold out every home game in existence. There are some low spots (Dallas, for example), but the sport is growing in our countries (Canada and US). It may have failed in the past with the NASL (back in the 80s), but that will not be happening to MLS for a couple of reasons. It's here to stay.

These kimd of topics are the kind that I like because it lets me express how much hate I have for American Football. How the hell is "Football" football, they rarely use their feet. I find nothing exciting about a bunch of sweaty muscular guys tacklling and getting on top of each other. Brainless players cannot run for a long time thus having to use oxygen tanks most of the time. I hate how this dumb "sport" overshadows basketball here in America. Seriously, Basketball is a way more exciting sport because of player like Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade (I will not mention LeBronze because I hate that overhyped excuse of a pro basketball player).

Futbol takes skill and endurance to be able a play for 90 minutes. Futbol is a great way to stay in shape. Futbol has had so many great players that it aint funny. PURO AGUILAS DEL AMERICA

[QUOTE="LexLas"][QUOTE="Sajo7"]Even in dirt poor countries you can still play soccer. You can't say that for a lot of American sports.Sway-
Your so right ! It's about affordability, i get it now. But basketball is sort of like that ?

Hoops are harder to make then a goal.

I really hope you don't mean that. *giggles*

Don't go to any country outside the US because you'll get you arse handed to ya.

You don't weigh 80lbs you have to be very physically fit to run 6000-8000 kilometers on average per game. It's more of a sport than you'll ever see I bet you're **** and can't even send in a cross.

It's pretty amazing that they cover so much god damn distance when they're going a light jog half the time.

I honestly don't know how you can believe what you just typed.

i think he means assemble.

Good, I would just about die laughing if that wasn't the case.

For the reasons already stated, and I also think it has something to do with America being a stubborn country and wanting our own sports.

If you wanted a realistic answer it was back in the 1940's after WW2, Truman implemented a plan to start local soccer teams. The coaches assigned to these leagues taught the kids how boring the sport was, and sent all the gifted athletes to good sports. This plan was setup to allow a sport in which all countries would have a fair chance to win. Truman knew if soccer was made popular here, countries would become distraught about this. Therefore, the unpopularity of soccer in America has prevented WW3, and has for the past 65 years.

Baseball requires equipment, and American football requires protection. Hockey just sucks.

Soccer is obviously the most accesiblle sport. I do find it boring, not as boring as baseball though. For watching it's basketball>=hockey>american football>>soccer>>baseball. For playing it's ice hockey>>road hockey>>basketball>>all else.

Once you've played sports on skates, everything else is lame by comparison. Maybe if they started playing other sports on ice... Then again I don't think jumping and/or kicking is a very good idea with skates.

mainly because a team scores in basketball 40-50 times a game while in soccer you score maybe once or twice. And you know, when he says "its harder to make a basket than a goal", it could come off as in scoring.

Football is also like that ?? All you need is the ball ?

But pretty pointless because you don't really need no skills IMO, you just got to be big and bulky and can run. In Footy, you can learn new skills, tricks, improve on shooting, passing pretty much by yourself. But in American Football it's pretty pointless just passing it to the air don't you think?

Basketball involves skill as well.
