How about some proof to back that up....

Notice how all the Americans call the French a bunch of "p***ies"?

We saved their rears in WWII... they're remarkable at thanking us.

"You" saved our asses? No, "you" didn't do it, individuals who happened to be born within the same region and boundaries as you did. It's laughable how you try to associate yourself with the accomplishments of WW2.

I'm a citizen of the United States... thats why I say we...

And why did you show up two years late? It would have ended a lot faster if you had truned up earlier. And again, it wasn't just you that fought in Europe.

This, I will agree, was foolish... but you can't deny that without us, you and the brits would have been screwed...

Sort of, not by Hitler depends if Stalin would have left us alone.

And they made America an independent nation. Perhaps you don't understand how allies work in the world. Why do Americans act bitter towards the French? Because they vetoed the Vietnam war AND the Iraq war AND they were right on both occasions, then the American medie blew it way out of proportion.

Dude our media makes you guys look great... and you're wrong on both wars...

The Vietnam war helped how? Even the war in Iraq is starting to look like a big mistake. More people dying now than before.

One of the factors for the Viet Nam was due to the French dude. As for Iraq.....the French were concerned with their own interests. They weren't innocents. *shrugs*

Would have should have could have. The Brits didnt send everything they had over because they couldn't, so that argument is moot.

Edit: Then again I am not even sure what War if Independence you are talking about. Vietnam? America's?

He was a conqueror, but he also saved France in general. There is a reason so many people followed him for his time. The "Napoleonic code" was huge. Giving jobs based on merit was almost unheard of in France, he made peace with the church, everyone was equal before the law no matter what even if you were of nobility, he also improved France's public education.

He also spent a lot of money making the roads, canals, and railways that exist in Paris today.

Eh, America agrees. President Bush's approval rate has been dwindling below 30% for years. Our congress is full of weasles who care for nothing more than money and earmarks. And I frown at the fact that I can't find a presidential candidate that I fully agree with. I'm at least praying that a new president will steer us in the right direction.

1. it is spelled with an O, Napoleon.

2. he was average height for his time period.

I think the vast majority of people who hate America are just hopping on the bandwagon and they don't really know what they hate about America. They see their friends bashing America, so since they don't want to feel left out, they join the crowd, and the process goes on until MOST people in an entire country consistently bash America. It's become institutionalized, it's ridiculous. What's sad is most of them can't even name just 7 of our states, neither do many of them know what century we were founded in .

Oh yeah, let's not even start with the bias of the media. It's appalling how so many Europeans can just sit around while their news anchors imply the bad about news about America, and they even go measures to not mention the GOOD THINGS that happened in America. So it's a great deal of misconception based on what a lot of the media dictated and a procrastination to come to the agreement that they may be biased.

Here's another huge contributor: European Camaraderie. Yep, it seems so many Europeans are holding on to their Anti-Americanism in the fact that in united Europe under one roof with the same collective conversation "Hey don't you hate America? Yeah, those imperialists...Yadda yadda blah blah..". Very few people are willing to give up this great feeling for just admitting they may be biased and wrong, rather they don't care and just want to continue the great feeling of always having a topic to talk about. Probably the main thing that flourished the negativity in the first place is that so many Europeans feeling they've been victimised, therefore they criticize America in retaliation.

To sum it up, most of the "American bashing" is just a continuing trend of bias, bandwagon riding, and a whole lot of nonsense. I don't see a reason to take it seriously. It's just a case on "Let's hate the Yankees because they're the most talked about baseball team".

Then you should be glad to be a citizen of a once great nation... dude the French rocked until Napolean came...

akatsuki0wn3d

No, Napoleon brought glory to France. He brought purity to the revolution, France would've completely crumbled had it not been for Napoleon. "France... In the gutter, I picked it up" - Napoleon

WHAT? He was a conqueror like Alexander and the many caesars... if you mean military glory then yeah but nothing else...

But Napolean was a fighter... I thik he would have supported both wars if he were here today...

Napolean was short.

1. it is spelled with an O, Napoleon.

2. he was average height for his time period.

Sorry, about both. 'Tis a sad day that I forget how to spell Napoleon.

The U.S. is bashed because most people in the U.S. think that they are the best in everything and that every country is miniscule compared to them. Also they are very ignorant when it comes to world affairs, and geography. Most people in the U.S. probably couldn't even find Iraq with a map. For example in my history class we were asked to draw a mental map of the world.Nearly everyone (not me) made the U.S. bigger than Africa.

1.) The good we do is often overshadowed by other things...like the fact that it's often for political or economic gain; not out of benevolence.

2.) We have become the moral dictate of the world. People the world over watch our television shows, movies and listen to our music. Given how much of it is filled with sex, drugs, murder, money and/or mayhem, people will blame us for the eroding morals inside and outside of the US. Given how many things we consider entertainment fly strongly against almost all of the refined religions, it's not hard to understand where that kind of hatred might come from.

3.) We are proud to be ignorant. We're proud of the fact that we're ignorant to world cultures and customs. We don't care to learn more languages than English. We have little desire to travel outside the US except for brief vacations. We have little interest in understanding the depth of international affairs. We think we're the center of the world and we like it that way. That lends itself to vanity, pride and unwarranted arrgance.

4.) We assert our military might unnecessarially, to the deaths of thousands.

5.) We have supported/financed/backed/lead several coups against politicians in countries that shared views antithetical to our own. We propted up people like Pinochet, Hussein and Noriega. Brutal Dictators to their people...but people that would be our political puppets. Some turned on us...but we didn't care what they did to their people as long as they also did what we wanted them to do. The installation of people like that builds resentment. Hatred. Anger.

6.) We demand "free trade" only to milk countries dry of resources, while forcing them to accept peanuts for pay. The result is Nike Factories were people work 18 hours/day for $1.00/week...or Coca Cola factories where people disappear for complaining about the work conditions.

7.) We think we're the best at everything, when we're not.

8.) Sometimes just sitting on the top will make you a target.

...but #8 is least likely of them all.

But you have to admit, people just hate the Yankees because they FEEL THEY HAVE TO, just because everyone else is doing it, right? If you sit for a few seconds and think about it, they're no flashier than any other team and it's just the people who put them at that position they feel fit to criticize....If that makes sense. It's like "Let's hate Mr. Big, becuase they're big".

Well, that's not the case for me, but I can see how those of more manipulatable minds would happen under that. I can answer all those questions, but you probably wouldn't believe me, saying I used google. Your country was founded in the 18th century, it inspired the French to rebel against their monarchy, New York New Jersey Maryland Texas California Florida Delaware Mississippi Michigan Washington Utah Ohio Alabama North Dakota South Dakota Virginia Alaska Hawaii Arizona Massachucettes Oregon Nevada Maine Vermont Conneticut West Virginia and we're not in Kansas anymore. Those are the ones I can name off the top of my head. Don't believe me if you wish.

yep, people don't understand that the media doesn't present both sides of the story. when someone in another country watches the news, they only hear about the bad. since they rarely hear about the good, they just think that america in general is bad without really doing any research. earlier in this thread people were saying they dislike americans because we generalize about them, but really most of their arguments are based on generalizations.

Actually our media DOESN'T EVEN TALK ABOUT Europe at all.

And no, I obviously wasn't implying ALL EUROPEANS, though there is the minority who fits the bill and I was too lazy to keep writing "Some Europeans....Some Europeans do this.....Some Europeans are like this...". So yeah, sorry for being misleading. Though I have to commend Britain because it seems like the people over there are more open to us, and it seems our historic ties created some "American cousins" mentality. The "camaraderie" thing about bashing America may be the most visible with politics and less dense among the people.

So yeah, my apology for just saying "Europeans".
