As long as we have more religiosly knowlegeable people here, I have a question. What makes Satan evil? I maybe mistaken in my idea that he's the lord of hell, but hell needs to exsist and it needs a ruler to look over it.

That's perfectly understandable in my opinion and I see nothing evil about simply running the land where evil goes to get punished.

He disobeyed God... just wondering have you ever conceived the idea of reading the Bible? Maybe by reading it you'll understand more!

In what way did he? I'm quite intrested in these, though I take them as little more than fairytales given modern man's valid objections to this ancient testimony.

Modern man? Man has never changed, and man will always supress the truth... anyway he disobeyed God because he believed he was greater and he led 1/3 of the angels to their ultimate doom... Satan is lord of our earth and of hell... but the power is given to him by God...

No he was saying it ONLY makes you feel better, but its never been disproven that prayer works so his statement is void...

I answered the question. If you have more questions ask the Lord above. You might just get an answer.

Dear god, why havn't you had any trace of a presence in any recorded history?

:|

:|

:|

Nope, no answer yet.

That's certainly in the eye of the beholder. And sometimes it takes decades for God to answer.

"When I was a kid I used to pray to God for a bike. Then I realised God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike, and prayed to God for forgiveness."

- Emo Phillips

God is not for stealing.

Can't take a joke, can you? Emo Phillips is a comedian.

My point was that prayer, and asking "God" questions are both useless tactics. Prayer might give people ease of mind, but it won't help them with whatever they want.

You know, if you think about it, prayer is just verbal masturbation It doesn't serve any useful purpose, but it makes you feel better when you're done. (I have no idea where that thought came from.) :)

I never knew it was proven that prayer does anything good or bad... (scientifically) so how can you say that?

There have been a few tests, check them out.

Well, God has a multiple identity problem and also classifies himself as Allah, so he's having a Gollum/Smeagol fight over himself for who to support.

I should teach philosophy.

First on my agenda: Man is very different than he was years ago. We have evolved so little since the ancient days of recorded history physically, and we have not overcome inevitable death obviously. However, our minds have expanded qutie a bit.

I like religion for it's ancient role in society. It kept everyone sane while we were developing knowlege we never thought possible, but now it's a relic. A safty tool for the ancient minds unwilling to accept a reality.

Second, an intresting tale, but that doesn't answer my tale too much. Satan sounds like a jerk for those fallen angels, but god made his choice for who to run the underworld it sounds. Satan is filling out his job.

Prayer is not blasphamy. It does have some intresting results. The problem is though, these results are self induced control of your mind. They have nothing to do with an all powerful bein up there waving his hand to make magic happen, it simpley has to do with you focusing strongly. Focus as anyone should know, is something humans usual strive for in competition and otherwise.

Once again, my reason I don't like god exissting in todays society. He takes credit for what is a perfectly human accomplishment.

Whatever happened back then does not apply anymore. We have done nothing terrible. I hear people saying we are born with sin because of what Adam did. Well, God sure is quick to forgive if that's the case.

I have. It says that Jesus "died for our sins". So why are we still these worthless beings deserving of eternal torment from a supposedly merciful god? Did new ones show up or something?

As I have stated earlier, kids, administrators, and god himself have no bearing on me unless they are in my life. Now if god will have an impact, he sounds like no friend of mine for certain who needs praying to in a musty old building.

there are at least a few people on here who believe that people in the past (say pre-moses) were "closer to divinity" or something along that line and thus lived longer.

You're just catching onto it? Hell, God is a bitter prick The reason Satan rebelled against God was because he thought man wasn't perfect, which he proved with the whole apple thing. What happens? God says "Go to Hell" and banishes man from paradise. Ever read the Book of Job? God lets Satan screw with his life. He even gives Satan the idea and green lights it. He's an a-hole.

  1. The answer is that God gave us all free will so we can make choices ourselves.
  2. God could have made us all robots, forcing us to believe in certain things and certain ways.
  3. You should all be happy you even have the capability to discuss this topic, LOL!
  4. Without free will, there isn't true love. God wants people to choose to love him.
  5. The final answer is love.

An intresting idea, but I don't buy it. This fits under my "God's stealing my credit" policy. I as an advanced form of life and of greater mind potential than other living things on earth have achieved free will and my own destiny. I do not believe god made us and just desided to jam a bpok called "free will" in our heads one day.

The 'free will' argument isn't valid. From Genesis,

"In the beginning God[3] created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters." God creates light; the "firmament" separating "the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament;" dry land and seas and plants and trees which grew fruit with seed; the sun, moon and stars in the firmament; air-breathing sea creatures and birds; and on the sixth day, "the beasts of the earth according to their kinds." "Then God said, Let us make man in our image ... in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."[4] On the seventh day God rests from the task of completing the heavens and the earth: "So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation."

God forms Adam "from the dust of the ground...and man became a living being."[5] God sets the man in the Garden of Eden and permits him to eat of all the fruit within it, except that of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, "for in the day that you eat of it you shall die." God makes "every beast of the field and every bird of the air, ... and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name ... but for the man there was not found a helper fit for him." God causes the man to sleep, and makes a woman from one of his ribs, and the man awakes and names his companion Woman, "because she was taken out of Man."[6] "And the man and his wife were both naked, and were not ashamed."[7]

The serpent tells the woman that she will not die if she eats the fruit of the tree: "When you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,[8] knowing good and evil." So the woman eats and gives to the man who also eats. "Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons." God curses the serpent: "upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life;" the woman he punishes with pain in childbirth and with subordination to man: "your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you;" and the man he punishes with a life of toil: "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground." The man names his wife Eve,[9] "because she was the mother of all living." "Behold," says God, "the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil," and expels the couple from Eden, "lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever." The gate of Eden is sealed by a cherub and a flaming sword "to guard the way to the tree of life."[10]

According to this, humans had free will, yet no desire to 'sin'. So why allow some snake to roll up and mess everything up? It doesn't make sense, and saying 'free will' doesn't answer it.

How can we have free will if God knows everything we are going to do before we do it? God knew one of the concequences of creating the universe would be me writing this post even before he created it. How can I do anything but write this post right now?

True. Everything we do if inevitable,as we make our decisions based on things out of control.

That's probably one of the crappiest pseudo-intellectual arguments against God that I have seen on the internet, and that's really saying something...

SonKev

Which means he wants love. Then why didn't he "program us" to love him? Hm? That's like holding out two hands closed, one with candy, and slapping somebody for not choosing the right hand.
