Worst music elitists?

Music elitists. We all know them, hell, we might be one ourselves. They have the belief that their preferred genre is superior in every way to yours and everyone else's. Now, with the huge variety of genres out there, this is bound to happen. Considering that, which genre's elitists are just unbearable?

Personally, I think that classical music elitists are the worst. Now, don't get me wrong, classical music is fantastic, but when some people think that no other music matters, that's when I have a problem. Everything that isn't Beethoven or Mozart (along with other composers) is just no good.

Oh yeah, please, no flaming other users. Please keep this thread as respectful as possible.

I'm not going to overgeneralize, but over the course of my experience with forums, self proclaimed metalheads have been the absolute worst. The majority are very open and cool, but some are just so close minded and elitist about their favorite genre of music it drives me mad.

CIassic rock fanboys, no question. They pretty much have the same mindset as the cIassical music elitists you mentioned...but I find them to be a million times more annoying, since at least cIassical music really was exceptional...where as cIassic rock (with a few exceptions, of course) was not.Darth-Caedus

Extreme Classical and metal-heads.

From my experience here....metal and classic rock are tied for first. They are most vocal against other opinions of their genre.

As a delegate from the assembly of Radiohead fans and being one who does not give a care what people think of the band in all honesty, I would agree that some of my fellows are absolute tools with no notion that music is subjective.

I'll have to say Metalheads, despite the fact that I like all sorts of metal on occasion. Some are cool like tohers have said, but some always bash others music preferences, they even hate the "cores"

Those who say certain genres "are not music." I listen to metal. I get it a lot since I listen to a lot of electronica as well.

I'd go with cIassic rock out of the list. Sure, you might like that music for whatever reason or you might consider it highly influential, but it's the ones who don't look to new music that bother me. They think that the stuff of old hasn't been equaled or blows away everything modern and thus don't listen to anything created past 1979. New techniques, instruments, etc. have all come into more mainstream use since then. I'm sure they can find something interesting of good quality that has come out since then even if it's not in their genre of choice. It's that musical close-mindedness that bothers me...

Metal elitists bother me as well (internet kvlt warrior kiddies; primarily black metal elitists), but hardly any actual artists are elitists themselves. The real fans of the music care about what's good rather than what's "true" or "kvlt." Some of my favorite metal bands are more "mainstream" (Opeth and Agalloch come to mind) and the fans of these bands are often looked down upon by the internet warriors. However, these people are fairly few and far between when compared to the elitists of cIassic rock and both of those example artists have loads of great fans in the metal community who are respectable.

*sigh* metalheads always take a beating here for no reason...you all think metalheads are the worst but I say we take the most crap. From what I see, metal is the most attacked genre in music, and when we defend it, we are being ignorant, rude and elitist. Thanks a lot. That's not to say there aren't metalheads out there who go out and pick fights either, but I see more arguments started against metal than other genres.

I tend to listen to anything that is creatively interesting, while most all classical music is very interesting due to it's composition, the bands I see as irrelevant for me at least to listen to are the ones that carry no stimulation because of it based solely on substance and not artistic thought. With this I mean to say I appreciate everyones opinion on music but in terms of its relevance I find the extremely opinionated to carry some sort of bias based on interest alone instead of pure feeling. If I had to say what I've experienced as of late with certain people it would be between Punk music and Metal.

I've encountered many users who believe their opinion is fact no matter what, and if you believe otherwise you are wrong.

I guess it must be ridiculous to assume that one more person on this site might be of the same sort. :roll:

Elitists in general are annoying, metalheads because just the bands they like are best and every other band is a knock off of their favorite band, rap/hip-hop because they argue that rap artists are poets, classic rock..i don't have much experience with nor with classical..
