the reason for the question is because in class today we were discussing gender roles. professor asked the class if we consider men who don't want children to be selfish, which everyone replied with no. when asked the same question but with women some people were saying that the woman was being selfish wtf?

can't we just send the women instead? sounds easier to meNo. I can only think of one incredible unlikely scenario were it would be: and that's if the human race would end if she didn't procreate. Other than that, thinking a woman selfish for not wanting kids is just stupid.

Thing is, if you've ever been really depressed (like not just "down," but depressed) it's difficult to feel much of anything -- bravery, cowardice, love for yourself or others. You feel numb and empty. Well I felt a bit more than that. I've dealt with severe depression for 5 years. It sucks and I felt like I was getting nowhere in life, but like I said, suicide is a coward's way out. Things can change through time; so why end it on a quick note? Probably because some people don't think of it like you.[QUOTE="Meinhard1"][QUOTE="Ackad"] If it's regarding a health condition, I personally believe assisted suicide is not bad, but when it's about depression, I believe it's a coward's way out. Anybody else think that in the long term people are going to regret not having kids and be really depressed by it. In psycholgogy happiness in late life is determined by whether you feel like you've accomplished something. Let's be honest, outside of family the vast majority of people do not.
I guess it could be argued that they're selfish because they're giving up happiness later on for what they perceive as making them more happy in the present.
