What I am saying is that your budget is alot more than what you will need to spend to get an E8400 and 8800GTS 512MB.Just SAVE that money and keep it with you in case you have to somehow upgrade before 2010 although you will be fine.

You will see the difference See here a 8500 with other quads and dual cores

And the 8400 is just abit slower than the 8500 but by only 160mhz

Ouch!

And the E8400 is better than the X6800 which seems to be pawning the Q6600 and Q6700.

Those Supreme Commander benchmarks don't have the CoreMaximiser utility enabled.

Go to the GPG forums and download CoreMaximiser. It spreads CPU loads across a maximum of 8 cores (if you have that many). It helps quad cores the most (50-60% improvement), but it also boosts the performance of dual cores (20% or so).

It's a MUST HAVE for anyone who plays SupCom, and I honestly don't know why GPG didn't include the utility's techniques into the game. :|

OK, I'm sick of this thread. I'll list a system down, and you just buy it, alright? It'll last for 2 years, but you may have to upgrade the GPU sooner:

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6700;

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L;

GPU: 8800 GTS 512MB;

RAM: 2 x 2GB of DDR2-800;

PSU: A good quality 500w unit from Corsair/FSP/Silverstone/Seasonic/Enermax;

HDD: Western Digital SE16 320GB;

OS: Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
