F.E.A.R. was one of the most linear, non-puzzle games, and it made almost no use of physics.
Way to make a point and then competely destroy it.
Secondly, while HL2 may well have had physics, and used them in puzzles, HL1 had WAY more puzzles that were often harder than that of HL2. That being said HL2 is, like the post above me said, VERY linear. There is NEVER a point at which you can take a different route to your destination.
I loved fear a lot, a lot more than HL2 in fact. But it didn't have puzzles. Would it did have, as you said, was awesome AI. Also it had some of the best gunplay in any FPS ever. The guns may have felt post-modern, but they shot like real ones, and the slow motion was very cool. Very Max Payne 2.

Couldnt agree more with you guys, so far we got 5 users in gamespot forums who think hl2 is overatted.overrated imo. i got bored of it very quickly and easily. not many guns/weapons. sounds are weak. story didnt grab me. gravity gun sucks. riding vehicles looks messed up.

[QUOTE="dont-read-this"]Fear? Call of Duty? Crysis? the original HL? What makes Call of Duty's gunplay better? The lack of recoil? The unsatisfying feeling of killing an enemy and watching them all die using the same animation? Yea - loads better. Crysis has the best gunplay of pretty much any game released - so I won't argue with that one. The original Half Life's gunplay is pretty good (especially for the time), but I don't see it being significantly better. My point is that people are really nitpicking things. Half Life 2's gunplay is perfectly fine. It's not too far off from Counter-Strike's, which also has some of the best gunplay in any game out there.its far off from counterstrike. which is the main reason why i didnt like the gunplay of hl2. Because im used to counterstrike. If it was any close to counterstrike i would have enjoyed it alot more, And i wish it was. Not minimum amount of guns that sounds weak.[QUOTE="KHAndAnime"] Poor gunplay? Compared to what?KHAndAnime
[QUOTE="Solid_Tango"]Finally, now i know that i m not alone. YES YES HALF LIFE 2 IS TOTALLY OVERATED, worst fps i ve played in my life, crysis leaves hl2 in the dust.dakan45Yeah crysis is much more interesting and with more freedom, i agree crysis is vastly superior and more fun.
Crysis is much more overrated and less deserving of the 9s and 10s it received. Seriously I did not find the game interesting at all, especially when the aliens came up I just wanted to smash my monitor
Poor gunplay? Compared to what? FEAR, Far Cry, Crysis, games that have a greater focus on shooting mechanics than Half Life 2. Obviously Half Life 2 is more than just a shooter, since you're doing several diferent things that don't require shooting i.e. driving portions, physics puzzles, etc. Games like Far Cry, Crysis and FEAR are much more gunfight focused, therefore having better gunplay. And it's not like HL2's gunplay was bad enough to the point where it's intolerable. You can get used to it quickly. But compared to the more traditional shooter its gunplay is weak.i agree with this post[QUOTE="KHAndAnime"][QUOTE="mo0ksi"] As much as I love HL2, the game isn't perfect due to these three flaws: Poor gunplay Poor AI (Enemy + Friendly) The boat and buggy portions were a little drawn out. Fortunately, those are the only three that stand out.mo0ksi

Well it really doesnt deserve the 9.5 and i agree its pretty overatted but i found it more interesting than hl2 and superior in tech terms and gameplay capabilities.Yeah crysis is much more interesting and with more freedom, i agree crysis is vastly superior and more fun.[QUOTE="dakan45"][QUOTE="Solid_Tango"]Finally, now i know that i m not alone. without the aliens. crysis would have no story. as the aliens was the whole point of why the koreans military was there and a twist for you to encounterCrysis Gunplay >>>>> HL2 gunplay. That alone sells it for me. Customizable, realistic(ish) weapons. And more importantly destrutible vehicles and environments. I would play Crysis again just for that.
I don't think you can hugely dog a game JUST because of its plot, as long as it stays within certain limitations. At least Crysis explained the plot, as opposed to the total lack of info in HL2.
But seriously, how many games have really believable plots? Along those lines, I'd say Crysis actually hits further towards the plausible side than most.
To me, Crysis was kind of Farcry gone right. Sand box FPS ftw.
Sniping enemies with an actual sniper rifle from half a mile away FTW. As opposed to a heated metal launching crossbow...
Ii still dont get people that praise HL2 for its "uniqueness".in almost every post that defends this game,it will say something like"HL2 was more than a shooter, you have to do alot of other thing".lol, what kind of things can you do in HL2? lifting a box and throw it away? climb up a dam bulding jus to push a button so you can proceed with your **** car? seriously.and when people play FPS,well they expect to shoot things rather than doing all kind of meaningless **** . Im not really a big fan of FPS,but HL2 was one of the most boring.

I guess my post came across the wrong way
I was talking about HL2's puzzles, but then I said that FEAR if the best FPS anyways, so I don't care much about this debate lol
I love FEAR so much. I love Crysis as well. And Far Cry 2 is really good as well. I think FC2 is really immersive though. The Jackal Tapes are amazingly well done

i couldnt agree with you more. just because of the game's physics it scored so high. I wont lie, the physics engine it has is the most impressive ive ever seen but its not like you use it thoughout the entire game. what the hell can you do with a paint can rolling around? why do i need to throw things in that game, its not like it has stealth gameplay and its not like the enemies will react to things being thrown. the only parts about the physics that i actually like were the parts when an exploding barrel would send a carbine soldier flying or on very rare ocasion; when you destroyed the support beneath them. I also like how in episode 1 when you use the cars to stop the antlions from spawning from the ground. during this, if you use the gravity gun on the car and an antlion is in the way, it would roll over them and crush them. or knocking a desk over with the gravity gun to block enemy fire. Those were the aspect of the game's physics that i liked. i didn't like grabbing things nearby with the gravity gun and killing enemies though, i found that rather boring. those are the unique features i found in the game but i rarely got to do those things because the game's combat is so dry. for the record, i enjoyed episode 1 a lot more than the original half life 2. there was more action, interaction, suspense and dialog.

Agreed with far cry 2Ya, I don't understand how people hate FC2.
Well actually, I sort of do. I have it on the PS3 and PC, and holy SH**, it sucks on consoles.
Like no joke. The controls are so floaty on the consoles, the action is way slower, no freaking quicksave, and it is
so annoying tilting your analog stick up to see the map and trying to drive at the same time.
I love FC2 though. Fortune's Pack was awesome. Crossbow and Sawed off Shotgun is amazing
I like attacking the mercs base anyway i want and change my position to confuse them, also every weapon is diffirent, its a matter of prefence not firepower and accuracy like eg stalker. The ai is the best i ever seen, they investigate noises, they move in groups, they drive vehicles, and sneak behind you when you dont look. I was in a tower once and i was shooting but one guy got under the tower and i couldnt shoot him. Ofcourse he didnt go up because i would take him out easilly but then i got distracted and when i look behind me he was right there ready to kill me. Also if heavilly injured the ai crawls and retraits inside a house holding ther pistol and bleeding out.dakan45
Ya, I love the weapons in the game. I also love the whole upgrade and diamond thing.
The AI wasn't bad. It is a lot harder to make AI that is unscripted. Crysis did a pretty good job of the AI as well.
Even though FEAR is a linear game, the AI is unscripted
Man I can't get enough of that FEAR
Yeah i liked fear too, even perseous mandate, i think the combat was kinda better in the rooms you were fighting with all those weapons. So here comes the hl2 point, i didnt have fun because i dint care about the physics, i wanted to shoot stuff like fear or the first half life. Half life 2 didnt feel like half life I mean seriously fear has more vent crawling than half life 2 :lol:dakan45
lol As long as you say FEAR is better than *insert game*, I agree with you.
He has a right to his opinion. Don't flame people for thatYou are the biggest TROLL ever. Half life 2 has an amazing story and great characters. Awesome weapons. (how can you not love the gravity gun.)
u are either a troll or have bad taste.

yea you are 100% right.the physics engine had its moment, but not enough to make HL2 a super game.i hated teh gravity gun so much. The game was really fun from what i played of it. I just hate spiders with a passion and those quick headcrabs scare the **** out of me. I think this game deserved all the hype from G Mans giant head in the begining to the awesome boat scene. The graphics were also incredible for its time.
half life 2 WAS extremely overrated. before it came out there was a tech demo that made it look awesom,e but real-"world" application was just plain poor. physics are ok, graphics ok, and storyline ok, but it wasn't really an.. immersive experience for me as a 9-10 rated game should be..
I remember some videos about hl2 that looked awesome, especialy the one at Ravenholm that showed some combine trying to kill the player and the player run into a house, barracated the door with soem furniture and run up when he threw a grenade at a water tower and killed and entire squad of combine after the water tower fell on them. But in hl2, well it felt mostly borring with not such good levels and cool physics usage and combat scenarios \ ideas.half life 2 WAS extremely overrated. before it came out there was a tech demo that made it look awesom,e but real-"world" application was just plain poor. physics are ok, graphics ok, and storyline ok, but it wasn't really an.. immersive experience for me as a 9-10 rated game should be..
